  1. ... The story was published in mid October. At your laughing at it now?
  2. While I understood what the article is saying, I am seeing a different trend happening in the NHL today. More and more of the later picks are getting better development than they were in 1997-2005. You also find that the higher talented draft picks enter the NHL earlier and don't get the same kind of development. The NHL is gradually becoming more like the American Football model where scouting and drafting is becoming more and more invested in (that's why every year we are hearing more and more about US college free agents). I'm not saying that every lower drafted player will pan out because they're getting proper development but I'm not going to say that Gaunce will become nothing more than a 3rd/4th liner. I find that incredibly rash and ignorant. I firmly believe that any player has the capability to blossom because this is a very "blue collared" league. Skill and talent is treasured in the NHL, but it's the hard work and smarts that give players the opportunity to succeed.
  3. Kass is now 5th in goals on the team and I don't get as scared anymore with him in the defensive zone. If he keeps it up, Torts may actually give him a shot with the Sedins before season's end.
  4. Ya I guess it's also rare that Martin St. Louis, Joe Pavelski, Claude Giroux, David Backes, David Krejci, T.J. Oshie, Daniel Alfredsson, David Perron, Mike Richards, Radim Vrbrata, Mike Ribeiro, Ryn Kesler, and Milan Lucic are also rarities. None of those guys were also drafted before 20 and yet produce among the tops of their teams and the league.
  5. Alex Steen, Corey Perry, Patrick Sharp, Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk all say hi.
  6. About as exciting as watching 2 gladiators fighting with only shields.
  7. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1956231/826268438.gif For those wondering why Thornton went after Orpik.
  8. I was just about to say that. This definitely reminded me of the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. Thornton should definitely get the book thrown at him. That being said, if anyone saw the hit Orpik laid on Eriksson in the opening minutes of the game, you can understand why Thorton went straight for him. Orpik went in for the big hit (no intention of playing the puck), caught Eriksson with his head down and Eriksson went straight for the locker room without returning. Orpik chose never fight Chara, Lucic or Thorton when they challenged him after that hit and so there was nothing to satisfy the Bruins of what they saw as a a dirty hit to injure one of their star players. It does make you wonder if Orpik had just accepted the challenge to fight that he wouldn't have become the victim of a dirty cheap shot
  9. The Coyotes this have actually been much more exciting this year than the past. They love having their defence jump up and join/lead the rush.
  10. He's been known as a good two-way player. Playing under Trotz shouldn't be much different from what Torts expects.
  11. Not surprised. I remember his turnover in his own zone in the 1st. Could be 1-1 right now.
  12. Other than the Sedins, the forward crop is full of blue collared workhorses. They'll play hard, but they won't sustain offensive with their lack of creativity.
  13. Stop it Thunder! My puppy are crapping everywhere!
  14. Is another year in the OHL really going to be that much better than playing sheltered minutes on the big club? If Gillis is treating Bo anything like he treated Jensen, it's more likely you won't see Bo playing for London and rather playing with men. We'd only be rushing his development if we threw into situations where he'd be forced to produce in a top 6 role or in a shutdown role where he will be facing the opponents best forwards. Fortunately, where have the Sedins and Kesler to carry those loads and expectations so Bo would be able to develop under sheltered minutes.
  15. Considering how many other RFAs are still unsigned, many of which are bigger pieces than Tanev, I don't believe will end up in KHL. I think the agents are using this time to push the deadline closer to training camps to add pressure to negotiations and give their clients better returns. I'm expecting a lot of these teams to get deals done just before training camp.
  16. I am curious as to what Tanev's agent is asking for. Signing Tanev seems pretty important for this teams defensive depth.
  17. Because he implemented a 1-3-1 with a team that had horrible defenders? Just because he can coach one way doesn't mean he can't coach any other way. There's more to Boucher than a trap system.
