  1. Lots of really good players have been drafted later in the first round. Brayden Schneider was 19th, I think. A big benefit of drafting your Hronek or Schneider type is that they're cost controlled for many years and cheap, and when you're finally ready to contend.
  2. I'd bet Petey and Hughes would understand being a little patient pays off. Keeping those two picks doesn't constitute a rebuild.
  3. Yzerman also said in his presser that he may use those picks to turn them into players. He understands the benefit of having assets and cap space during the offseason, especially when you're not yet a contender.
  4. His highlights look so good, and I'm thinking that any of his lowlights can be improved with help from Gonchar and Foote. Is it possible we fleeced Yzerman?
  5. Gawd, I hope they can snag Livingstone. That would be a huge boost. Hey, what are your thoughts, gent, on Hronek's highlights looking so good, but a lot of Detroit fans saying he's a third pairing defenseman on a contending team and that Yzerman fleeced us?
  6. I'm betting Hughes would like to play with Hronek over Bear or Schenn as well. Elite players prefer to play with other high-skilled players. His clips look super complimentary. Lets light the lamp.
  7. I'd love for them to stack the top pair until they can find a better partner for Hughes. I can't wait to see it. Great passer with great shooter, both smart defensively, and Hronek would have Hughes' back, if needed. Seems like a perfect fit. Lfg.
  8. Agree to disagree, Goose. I think they do want to build a competitive team and also bring a cup to Vancouver, but I don't think building a competitive team is going to bring a cup to Vancouver, only a contending team will do that.
  9. He straight up said he's trying to build a competitive team, but he did not say he's trying to build a contender. The hockey world uses these two words all the time with their very different connotations, which is why you see graphics of teams being put into different tiers of status. I used both words accordingly.
  10. Timing, but also getting us back into a cap crunch are the two main issues. I can't wait to see Hronek play, though.
  11. If I'm watching your competitors build out their car with a plan, patience, and then adding a supercharger, but at the same time I watch you in your garage live paycheque to paycheque, keeping that aging carburetor (Miller) to your engine, trying to get fast but with no apparent blueprints on how to do so, and then not adding a supercharger because of said money issues, you will continue to lose the race, even though you had fun competing at the event.
  12. We can gauge/determine it by their actions. They're doing a re-tool and trading away premium assets at the TDL while being a bottom 5 team in the league. This shows that we're continuing the 12-year re-tool that we've been on since the SCF. Sure, we'll be a competitive team as early as next year, if Demko stays healthy, but actions have so far shown that that's where we'll stay: competitive but not contending. Opinions are one thing, but opinionated insults are another.
  13. I firmly believe Allvin wants to build the most competitive team possible, but I don't believe that how he's going about it will equate to building a contender. It's not enough to just get into the playoffs, as you'll be up against the Bostons, Carolinas, AVs, Lightnings, etc of the playoffs. So you've felt attacked before by some posters and your answer is to throw a blanket insult into the thread? Maybe you're hanging around the playground too long after dropping the kids off at school?
  14. Fingers crossed you refrain from your condescension every time your kids have a differing opinion than you.
  15. Exactly, we have a new coaching staff who has come in to teach these guys how to push a broom before they can pound a nail, so although they can start to grow to be competitive, they're far from being contenders.
  16. 27th in the league and capped out with many inefficient contracts, yet we buy at the TDL with a 1st and 2nd. I still don't understand why they couldn't hold onto their cap space and picks, move more inefficient cap with having some space/leverage to do so, and then use some assets to acquire a rhd like Hronek in the offseason. Shortcuts always turn into deepcuts.
  17. His actions on moves and continuing the cap crunch says he's building a competitive team, but do you really believe that what he's building will turn into a contender?
  18. Wholeheartedly disagree. They all know the cap situations of other teams. That's their job.
  19. Allvin said it himself, he wants a competitive team, but what he didn't say is that he wants a contender, so I guess that's that.
  20. At least our 1st will then replace the 12th from the Isle. That's how this works, right? o_O
  21. Except GMs know they're in a crunch again, so what will it cost to shed cap in the offseason? (Rhetorical question, of course.)
  22. Recorded footage of Allvin's war room during this TDL:
  23. Yuuup. Every time management makes good moves to clear cap, the extra flexibility burns a whole in their business suit pockets and they make things worse for themselves.
  24. Well, they certainly put themselves into cap problems this TDL, so they didn't help themselves.
