Surprised this wasn't done sooner when we hired new management and cleaned house but it has to be done any time a new regime wants to come in and employ their own way of scouting and drafting.

Allvin's draft record scares me a bit so hopefully they get some very fresh guys in.

Frankly I don't care how they do it, whether its missing on 1st round picks but signing good UFA's , getting college free agents, i don't care. Im sick of all the losing

I believe it was reported that younger brother Nicholas Benning was the one assaulted.

Brandon Benning (the scout who just got fired) is the older of Jim Benning’s two sons.

Jim Benning also has two daughters, Danica and Isabella.

Im pretty sure he's got another daughter. Dazzle Benning. Posts in CDC, makes a lot of excuses ,pretty much defends daddy Jimbo to no end, hypes the prospects thread like they are sure fire hall of famers,  and whines like a little school girl when hes called out on facts

Not necessarily.  Guerin has given full autonomy to Brackett including the 1st round - was quoted saying that it's not the time for him to intervene or it would just get them in trouble.  Yzerman similar statement saying he would just be meddling and explains that watching a player a few times and then deciding who to pick would be akin to throwing darts.

Podkolzin was Brackett's pick.  He left just ahead of the 2020 draft - Canucks didn't pick before the 3rd round that year.

MacIntyre writes:  "But Juolevi was Benning’s choice back in 2016 because the GM wanted a defenceman and loved what he saw from the Finn at the world juniors. He could have chosen Mikhail Sergachev or Charlie McAvoy. Benning is believed to have gone with Brackett’s first-round recommendation ever since."

I actually don't mind if Brackett somehow makes his way back here. Contrary to the Benning fanboys, Brackett was the real mastermind of Jimbo's supposed success in the draft

One of the things JR mentioned was targetting a couple weeks into UFA season players in their 30's who they may be signed at 'value' deals....

Mathieu Perreault (played well in Winnipeg; injured most of the year; plays LW/C/RW positions)

Alex Chiasson (think as a 4th liner they'll consider him again on a 1 year contract)

    Might be others...

Finally a GM with some brains, actually wanting to go bargain shopping rather than rushing in front of the line and overpaying any warm body that can skate

Honestly think the media is hyping up the Eagles draft too much. Howie yet again like always failed to land a quality talent at CB or S despite the glaring need and the opportunity to do so with Kyle Hamilton sitting there.

I would have liked Hamilton but the Eagles to a fault only draft OL and DL with premium picks.

Getting AJ Brown saved the Eagles draft class but that contract is top 5 WR money so he better stay healthy and produce more consistently or the fans will turn on him.

How is a @gmen81 feeling about Treylon Burks to replace Brown?

I love how the Ravens draft every year. They want want tough and athletic players. They don't reach they get good value by sticking to the consensus board and big time players who produced I college at big programs and also have the mental and physical tools to be a sucess in the pros.

Their only weakness is they seem to struggle to evaluate the WR position.

Maybe they should sign OBJ or Antonio Brown?

The Chiefs and Bills do a real good job of late as well at drafting guys who fit.

Not to mention the Rams, and Bucs, and Packers. Coincidence they are all top trams and annual contenders? I think not.

The Steelers got some studs at WR with George Pickens and Calvin Austin too though.

My gawd you guys got Nakobe Dean. Insane value pick, who cares if hes not that big. He's a day 1 starter

Yeah Sundays are rough man. And no it sounds like the debate was draft a reciever at 10, or use that pick as the main PC to land him. I'm okay with Garrett Wilson there. Likely won't ever have the impact that DS does but also won't be asking for 30 mill anytime soon.

You guys killed it though this draft. I thought Sauce was the best CB in this class, a decent #1 WR in Garrett Wilson. Breece Hall was the best RB in this class but I don't think he's as good as Michael Carter, but good value though. Sauce Gardner I think has the potential to get a few all Pro nods, along with my guy Surtain II

Technically they didn't. They just waited 5 years too late to improve the offensive line.

Thats what I was thinking too. So you WONT draft a OL for Russell and yet, you'll draft one for Drew Lock (Baker Mayfield?) LOL . Wasnt too fond of their picks except Coby Bryant who might be a decent corner

Its funny though that so many fans hate Drance because he is not always blindly positive about the team.

Donnie and Dahli talk about being denied access to the team if they rock the boat

the Canucks and the NHL are corporate controlling entities

Any media agreeing with "Fire the Owner" banners or planes will find themselves out of a job.

I don't recall, but I doubt the reaction was any different when it happened in Ottawa

and no one ever says anything publicly about Arizona

no one ever says X is a bad coach

Im OK with Drance, at least he's somewhat subjective. You may not agree with many of his points but he has facts to back it up. Satiah Shah is the absolutely the worst thing going for Canucks radio. He's taken the Canucks homer mantle from the formerly WORST radio personality (the Moj) and ran with it. My parents are super die hard Canucks fans and they shut the radio or tv off when Satiah Shah comes on. He has all these made up analytics/statistics crap that nobody cares about, and there seems to be a new one every week.

And then how many Canuck picks that did sign with the Canucks?

Green has hurt this team in a big way the last few years and we're finally seeing what a decent NHL coach can do with the pieces JB brought together. I know JB copped a lot of slack for his trades but they were all made to look much worse with bad coaching.

Now Bruce comes in and these players look like stars again, and our roster really hasn't changed much.

For me it's all Green. He should have been fired a long time ago, last off-season at the latest really. JB loses his job as a result of it.

Green is gonna have to work his way up the ranks again considering the job Bruce has done this season. Travis would be lucky to have a job scrubbing toilets in Rogers arena, let alone being an assistant coach anywhere in the big leagues. He's going to be an AHL level coach at least for the next 3-5 years

My jets got a haul last night in the draft. See draft night is basically our superbowl. And we won it. So we kinda won the Superbowl last night...

Jets fan! Geez, mustve been tough watching the team this past decade. You think they'll make a play for Deebo?

The next Shaun Alexander? Apparently Walker was the 2nd best RB in the draft. He also won Doek Walker award for nation’s best RB. I’m excited to see how he fits in. I thought we would’ve went with Willis. He’s dropping real bad. Maybe he’ll slip enough for our next pick

They shoudve picked Malik Willis. Seriously, they finally decide to draft a lineman to protect who? Drew Lock? LOL Mayfield perhaps? Im not sure what Schneider and Carroll are thinking over there down south. Not a fan of this RB class. Walker is probably going to end up in the tail end of a time share with Carson and Penny. This draft was just all over the place in general

If a GM can't replenish a prospect pool or construct a team with depth in 8 years, they don't deserve that position.

The depth is so bad because Benning was impatient and traded away his prospects for help now, like Forsling, McCann. Both are playing in top 2 and top 6 roles in their orgs respectively, had Benning just stayed still, we would be better off.

Gillis did screw the pooch hard, but he left Benning in a better position for a rebuild than what Benning left this current group. He set up the Utica Farm team that didn't exist before, even Prospect Pool and Salary cap wise it was better. At least when Gillis was gone Horvat and Markstrom were in the system, there was cap flexibility and tradeable contracts (that Benning chose not to move).

This team is in purgatory/mediocrity, and can't easily shift to a rebuild or retool as well because of just how tight we are against the cap with immoveable contracts.

Yup, Gillis left Benning with a playoff team, a 100 plus point team which was never replicated in all of jimbo's seasons here. People can crap all they want , blah blah no prospects, no cap, any GM would love to take over a playoff team.

Fun fact. Bennings best seasons, his best was with Gillis team, and his 2nd best (this season) was when he got his fat carcass got  kicked to the curb in Dec. His best seasons is when he was hardly involved LOL

You don't believe that we would be in the playoffs if Coach B was hired sooner?

You can't assume that Boudreau wouldve even been the coach when Benning not gotten fired or Rutherford  hasnt been hired. Bruce wasn't even mentioned as one of the candidates as the next head coach after Green. If the Canucks had hired a different GM or interim GM, whatever, even that doesn't guarantee that Boudreau would've been the coach. JR is the reason why Bruce was here, and it just so happens, right situation, right time

How is rathbone magically in the future core category?

Theyre doing okay on forwards and fine in go but the canucks arent going to be anywhere close to contenders until they get a couple legit top dmen. Thats their biggest issue going forward.

You know how it is in CDC, all the over zealous fans like Dazzle, Elias Pettersson etc hyping up our prospects like theres no tomorrow. Coudl've sworn Gadjovich and Lind were getting their pampers in a bunch claiming they were all sure fire NHLers

Lets see Rathbone actually get regular shifts with the big boys before he considered part of the core

    LOL...

If you want to know why depth is so bad, especially when absurdly trying to compare Tampa and Colorado, it's because they drafted their players. Guess who didn't draft well? Gillis.

Seems like it's pulling teeth for some people to admit that Gillis screwed the pooch hard, and it's still costing the Canucks. People say 8+ years have passed - it's really not that simple. When you get caught trying to continue a cycle that shouldn't have been continued, then we lose opportunity to maximize our assets.

As for new management, they will have to sell high on Miller for them to actually be good. As of now, there is no way to say that new management is much better. All they've done so far is trade Motte, and hiring Boudreau. That's it.

Boudreau is an absolutely good hiring, and I never want to hear how Green was supposedly "handcuffed" from coaching his rosters. He sucked, and is also the reason why we got into a hole that we couldn't recover from.

LOL seriously? You're still blaming Gillis for the last 8 years since your boyfriend Jimbo screwed the pooch on this team? Gillis wasn't the one that signed Ericsson, Poolman, etc all that garbage players he signed. What about the Gudbranson and and Sutter trade? You blaming that on Gillis too? Pretty sorry excuse FANBOY. Benning had 8 years to get this team to be relevant and still failed miserably.

I don't expect you to agree with me nor do I care, but the fact you still come up with excuses for the failures of your mancrush Jimbo, Im not sure if you have his face in your cell phone, a mural painting on top of your ceiling in your parents basement, hey who am i to judge. Its been 8 seasons, you're still blaming the guy thats been long gone, is quite pathetic. I bet you make a lot of excuses on why you have a lot of shortcomings in life

I just had a good bs with Kirk McLean last weekend at a hometown hockey event. Of course we talked about 1994 and then Pavel Bure... Then Kirk went on about how scary talented Alex Mogilny was... says we only seen maybe 50 percent effort from him but he claims he is the most gifted player he was around.

I agree as well. When Quinn, Aucoin, McLean, even Fedorov etc., guys who have seen BOTH Bure and Almo not just in games but in practices as well and say Almo is better, that speaks massive volumes, contrary to the Bure fanboys. Ive seen both and I think very highly of Pavel, our very first superstar. Best day vs best day, I'll take Mogilny. Mogilny takes more shifts off, but when he's on, he looks like a top 3 player in the world

. Key words are "when he's on". Ferraro had a quote "Good players make great plays. Great players make them look easy". Mogilny made it look way too easy when his head was in the game
