I wanna laugh if people legit think Vancouver is the best city in the world lmao

Vancouver is second or third in Canada. World? Lmao… I mean please stop. Lol

LOL I agree. People that think that Vancouver is the best city in the world probably has never been in the intl departure area of YVR . This one person in my FB shared a link years on how English Bay is one of the best beaches in the world, hahahah geez clearly sounds like somebody has never travelled before

This 100%. Everything is subjective but some people here are too small minded to believe or even consider so and cry bloody murder like the world is ending anytime someone might not think its totally awesome. lol.

The need for self-affirmation really oozes an inferiority complex, its pretty funny actually.

Vancouver is a good city, its beautiful and peaceful compared to most major cities, but I've lived in multiple other cities in the US and Canada that have a much better vibe, imo, compared to this city.

Yup, people need to get out of their bubbles to realize theres many many more cities that are just as, if not more desirable. Living in SJ and Anaheim is defintely a massive draw to a lot of players. You get all the perks of living in California and yet afforded a pretty safe family life. Notice how players who end up playing for the Ducks or Sharks end up staying there? (if they weren't traded) Ive been to both cities a number of times and they are both wonderful places to live and build roots

According to Ray Ferraro a few years back, apparently Buffalo is quite underrated. The Sabres themselves are practically a con, but players seem to love the city of Buffalo itself

Best city in world too.  not even close.

I used to think that, but not lately. The random violence thats been happening in DT, stabbings, people getting attacked. I work in DT and my head is on a swivel everytime I walk in the streets. DT Vancouver has turned into an absolute cesspool, and the gov ain't fixing anything

This is something that is proof of my critics against Utica/Cull/coaches/Benning when the Dahlenstory hit the fan and Palmu lurking in the background.

Benning actually defended the $&!#ty coaching by Cull and players like Reid Boucher got most out of playing in Utica. Sad…

I agree thats why Ive been harping on the farm team should be playing a major part in the teams success, not just 1st rounders just making it to the team. Tampa Bay's roster has a lot of players that were groomed in Syracuse, not just 1st round talents but mid round picks that are playing key roles for their team. Pittsburgh practically created a new window for the team with the simple fact that their farm team was developing players up the brim that they are able to supplement Malkin, Crosby and Letang fresh legs to work with.

Dishonest is ignoring what I said in order to push your narrative. My last line above was this: “The ONLY position where player development has followed a rational path is in goal.” That would be Demko, DiPietro, etc. So, it looks like you did exactly what you accused me of, and that I did not.

Its a waste of time debating with Dazzle. The guy is a massive Benning fanboy. Just look at his posts, the guy gets massively offended when people dare diss his precious Jimbo.

    Almo is boss...

One of my favorite stories when Keenan was on Mogilny in the locker room.

“Mogilny looks up, he’s like, ‘Mike, have you ever heard of how I defected, how they f'ing threatened my family, how they wanted to kill everybody? You think you’re f'ing scaring me?’

Almo can go 55 minutes through a game doing nothing, then for a few shifts, you'd think he's one of the best players in the planet. When Almo turned it on, the guy was an absolutely elite player

I’m not expecting too much out of Karlsson. I’d like him to come to Abbotsford and see what he can do in the AHL.

Someone mentioned the SHL is the third best league in the world, and the AHL the fourth. If he’s producing as well as he does at the SHL level, then he should be able to produce just as much at a lower tiered league, no?

I know it doesn’t always translate that way. But still nice to dream.

Would love Karlsson and McDonaugh to sign with the Canucks and start stocking that AHL franchise in Abby.

Too bad we’re striking out on the collegiate level, though.

Its a nice feather in the cap but hardly moving the needle. If he does get into Abby, Im not too confident about our guys developing there considering the track record. Hopefully JR and PA can fix that. A lot of people thought Lind, Gadj were sure fire NHLers, theyre not. Even all the hype with Aiden McDonough. Its nice that hes doing good in the collegiate level, but lets get real now, he's not remotely as good as Gaudette was, and Gauds is barely holding on to an NHL job

I think we’re gonna like Dermott a hell of a lot more than that chump Hamonic.

Im skeptic about the Dermott deal, maybe it might work out. Could turn out to be Pouliot? or Erhoff? the guy just needed a change of scenery so who knows but changes need to be made. Poolman Hamonic and Schenn are basically the same type of players

And yeah, I agree Hamonic is a chump. Good riddance with that tin foiled idiot. But muh muh fReEduMs!

Dickenson is the new LE and hopefully, Allvin finds a new home for or Boudreau gets creative and turn him into a useful roster piece.   I like Motte but his style of play, doesn't age well and perhaps Allvin hits on the 4th he got or uses it in a deal.....

LE is way better than Dickenson. At the very least LE had a role and hes somewhat competent defensively. Dickenson is 2- way trash, he sucks on both ends of the ice, doesn't play PP, terrible in the PK, brought in to be C and yet can't win faceoffs. He's no better than Chiasson or Petan

I'm told on Twitter that guys with career highs of 16 points don't get more than a 4th rounder in return.

By the same token, those same players ought not receive contracts over, what, $1.5m AAV?

Apparently all Canucks fans should be happy with the meagre return because Motte is basically worthless, but still worth $10-$12m over 4 years. Go figure.

Motte's showcase was basically 2 years ago in the bubble, unfortunately he followed it up with an injury filled season.

It’s good for JT, in all honestly. From his vantage point, things couldn’t have worked out better. He was given the right opportunity to really truly break out here in Vancouver. But the questions for me are still is this current level of play worth what he will be paid for the next 3-4, maybe even 5 years?

I’m not so sure. I want Miller to be able to, but I just can’t say it for certain. Most players decline when they start entering their 30’s. And yes, there are exceptions to the rule, is Miller the exception? If so, what makes him the exception and not the rule?

It really sucks, this situation with JT. But I get the sense that management has a plan, and they know what they’re doing. I think this trade deadline would be the time to really maximize JT’s full value, but if you don’t have a buyer, then nothing management can do. Wait until the Summer? I guess, but his value drops a little more than if he was traded now, no?

I dont think his value drops as people may seem to believe. That 2 playoff runs is way overblown. Theres going to be more demand for JT in the summer when teams know their cap situation

That being said, the games this weekend will play a very big hand on what Alvin and Co. do on Monday

Miller was also part of the team JB was trying to build with Miller, Ferland, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle etc etc etc.  The intent was good, but injuries derailed that team........I don't think MIller was ever seen as part of the young core team emerging

Yeah, I don't think management here or even TB expected Miller to be a 90pt guy. Right place, right time, and he's gonna get paid

Call me crazy but I'd rather have a Tyler Motte than a LE.

Interesting that Motte could get traded for an asset and he was acquired for nothing. Asset management.

I wouldn't say nothing, Vanek played well when he was here. If anything it should've been Motte PLUS a mid-late pick. Hopefully management circles back to Motte during FA season if his price tag isn't too high

I find this a bit perplexing, that something was wrong with the farm system after the improvements made by MG and further made by JB.

what you are omitting and making it a somewhat disingenuous argument is that our entire system was depleted.

top to bottom, right to left, left to right.  The only asset was a bunch of older players and Horvat.

MG had mortgaged the future and we were a depleted run down asset.

Now had we not had glaring holes in or NHL roster, that were filled in by Horvat, Demko, Hughes, Pettersson, Hoglander and Podz amongst others, we would be in real trouble.

JB missed most of his defensive picks prior to Hughes, by either lack of a clear path for development or poor early pro scouting which allowed good players to be dealt away and bad players to be kept.

The steady and deeper round picks are coming up, this year thru the expansion draft we lost Kole Lind and thru assets management Gads.

Rutherford wants Rathbone to play minutes, Woo has been injured and Klimovich must be very worried about what’s going on at home.

If Hogs and Podz were with Abbey, it would be a bit more representive of the depth available to the farm system.

but with futures like Utunnen, Karlsson and others in Europe, we have players who are close to coming into the system and like JB, Rutherford and Alvin are persuading NCAA players to sign.

Added to that, both Abbey and Vancouver are in the mix and even though Abbey has a large AHL Pro contingent, we are a damn sight removed away from the Chicago Wolves disaster of player development.

    Phats.

Im not sure how Utunen or Karlsson have anything to do with the farm. They aren't there, so for now they are irrelavant to my point

Kole Lind and Gadj should've never been at the situation they were in had the Utica developed their players properly. Like I stated before, the only real player we had graduate thats playing for the Canucks full time is Demko, and to a lesser extent Gaudette and McEwen you can't tell me theres nothing wrong with that. Granted the previous regime didn't do much better in that dept but they were winning. A rebuilding team should have more players coming from the minors, it can't be just 1st round picks making it on the team. Theres a problem if guys like Brad Hunt, De Giussepe, Chiasson are beating the young players I mentioned and probably even Juolevi. Players from the farm didn't need to be stars even, just every night players because if you don't get players from the farm, you're signing PTO calibre talents or overpaying for players that take up a lesser role on a team (ie: Dickenson, Poolman)

But to come to think about it, lack of depth in Utica Abby might also be attributed that many of those 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks were traded away in deals (Gudbranson, Sutter, Pedan, Baertchi, too many too list since JB was a bonehead).

But yeah I agree, Abby/Utica is a far better option than what they had in Chicago. The wolves were in the business of winning, not so much developing

    Cap space is the issue.

We currently only have a few contracts where the players are providing surplus value.  Demko, Miller, Horvat, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Motte, and Lammikko.

Almost all of those contracts are the ones coming up for renewal so we will be paying them market rates and losing those efficiencies.  It will come at a cost of losing other depth.

If we keep Miller, then one or both of Boeser or Horvat will almost certainly move out just to make the cap space work... and that is without actually improving the team and just to keep most of the roster together and cover the raises.

Thats what happens with you have a dolt of a GM signing garbage players to contracts. Poolman and Dickensons cap hit is a combined almost 6 million. Thats Boeser and Miller's raises right there

It's all just speculation at this point.  I believe GMJB had planned to re-sign Tanev and Toffoli, but covid blew up the plans and he had to figure out a Plan B on the fly.  Given what he got back from dumping LE, Roussel, and Beagle, I assume the plan was to replace Tanev and Toffoli with OEL and Garland.  Schmidt was just a consolation since the trade with ARZ didn't happen right away.

Based on our organizational needs, Tanev would have been better to hang on to, but GMJB recognized he needed to get rid of the useless cap (LE and Co.), so was likely hoping to kill both birds with one stone (ie. cap dump while replacing both Tanev and Toffoli):

    Tanev >> OEL

    Toffoli << Garland

PS - the organization felt they needed someone to shoulder the load with Demko to help in his development, so they went out and got a good veteran goaltender.  I don't see anything wrong with that if it helped in any shape or form in producing the Demko we see today.  Hell, it was probably Clarke that advised GMJB to do so... so if you wanna piss on anybody, go after Ian Clarke lol

Ok so what I outlined is speculation but you led your point with "I believe" LOL
