OEL has it made.  20 mill in cold cash, on top of whatever he has earned so far, and still able to re-sign on a new team and make more. His agent on Dali and Donny was saying at least 10 teams have called him about his client. They haven't called anyone themselves.

I still think it was a short sighted decision not to at least have him play more sheltered minutes for one more season before a buyout. We'd have even more cap (per season) left to play with, and two less years to pay him to steal 2.1 m. cap money away.  The next couple of seasons after this next one are way more crucial to have cap than this one.  But the Aquilini quick fix strategy goes on.  It might work, if the plan is to squeek us into the playoffs in the next few years, a temporary bump, but I just don't see the sustainability plan.

Here's the catch, none of us have to meet with FA face to face and his own demands

  2. I recently watched a video on Spoftsnet Called "who are the winners and loser amongst Canadian Team:" Well it became apprent tht Nick either doze off in class or he's takem one too many blows to the head.I spoke 3 times about TO made fleeting mention of Mtl and Ottawa and di squeeze one reference to an Ontario kid who had been signed by theOilers. Asto Winnpeg, Calgary and Vcr, well apprently they must reside in the USA because he excluded them. That sums up Sportsnet for me

I don't equate being soft to not fighting (or even hitting) much...it's overall physicality for me. The quality of hits matters to me as much as quantity. Timing and whether or not it pulls a guy out of the play. Finishing checks, being hard to move off the puck, etc.

I do hope that Soucy uses his size a bit more/better than Myers does...it's few and far between with Myers but he certainly has the capability to lay out some huge hits. I used to love it when Edler stood guys up at the blueline...more of that kind of toughness.

Myers uses his stick and throws his body on the ice like a speedbump more often than he moves guys off the puck physically. I like him best when he engages more.

You some times have to feel for giants like Myers or maybe Soucy, to often they get called for a head hit becuase of their height

Just need to be patient with the big guys, I think it helps that Alriksson can say in Sweden for a while before signing a ELC.

It was a 4th round pick. What do you have to loose. Time and develpment might result in good things for the guy

Kellan Lain if I remember right but who knows, I could be confusing marginal historical Canucks.

Next up, my retrospective on Jim Agnew.

Yeah Kellan Lain, Bieska pushed him out the way at centre because he was up clearly out matched by Kevin Westgarth ( westgarth and Beska were friend ) Later in the brawl Laine did match up againsy Westgarth and did OK

I agree with the bolded, though shouldn't that be expected of a league that is trying to prove that they're the best of the best when it comes to hockey?  If you're not competitive (from a revenue perspective), maybe you shouldn't have a franchise or you don't deserve a franchise?  And I say this knowing full well that this is exactly what could also happen to the Canucks under those circumstances.  All this stuff about caps and salary limits and contract limits and stuff - it's just helping to prop up franchises that if they were in any other realm of business would have been shuttered and ceased operations years ago.

Anyways, just my shiny nickel (because 2 cents is worth f**k all these days).

I trust you understand the history to this. First came the 18 year old draft which ultimately brough a lot of uncertainly with it. This was brought about by a player, namely Ken Linesman who threatend to sue the NHL unless the age was reduced to18 year old. Following that young ( 18 year olds ) were free to negoiate there own salary ( no ELC ) and often for players with zero proof of ability demanded veryhigh salaries to sign. Teams complained they were beingheld hostage by players basically with no standing in the league. Hnce when the new contract wasvsigned the chnage was initiated

Holy crap he’s still in the league

I've watched this kid for the last couple of years and keep thinking how come Vcr doesn't sign a player like him or Irwin him self. He's no Hughes, he's not a difference maker but he's a solid defender who can eat up a lot in minutes without the coach being too concerned. He's big and players a NA style

  8. Irwin has been a regularin the NHL for the last 8 years. 6'2/200. The D next season is going to look a lot better and bigger than last season. I like Irwin ( kid from the Island) Soucy,  is solid and younger. Ian Cole played the 3rdmost miniuted in TB last season (I think he may well resign) lots of extra time for prospects and I really like that. No panick and time for prospects to reach their peak. It does look like Willander will have 2 seasons at BC/NCAA

  9. Both Soucy and Cole IMO are good signings. Every thing starts from the back end, then centre and last of all wingers which is why we have so many of them, teams don't put a high value on wingersso they're available and it's why it's hard to trade BB & Garland.

I'm sure the PK will be better, that alone will be a boost. Tocchet is only missing one component a centte who can calm things down ie a little more grit, not a good just more push back in the scrums

He had plenty of time. Virtanen, Juolevi...remember those mistakes? Try having Sergachev instead of Juolevi. Makes our back end a whole lot better. In Virt's draft, there's not a lot of D talent except Tony Deangelo, and he took several years to figure it out. Maybe Dylan Larkin instead? That solves our 3C problem quite nicely. Nah, Benning had plenty of time...just not plenty of talent

You must remember that prior to leaving Boston JB would have seen the Boston scouts ranking. Naw! he had the time just the lack of ability. I'm betting Boston would not have ranked Vitanen very high and in fact Button ranked JV in the second round

I don't know if I understand immediately thinking a prospect's going to be a miss before anything's even happened yet. It's such a terrible mentality to have with like... anything. Let's just give up on everything before it's even started.

    Have some hope dude.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine if you don't like the pick, but to think it's a miss right away is the wrong mentality that I'm referring to.

Plus move up? makes it sound so easy. It isn't if you move up you need to entice the the pick

This question was once asked in the Juolevi thread and posters got mad but I believe it’s time to ask the same about Woo.

When does Woo enter potential bust territory? He turns 23 in less than a month.

The question has to be asked is he better than Burroughs, for management to decide. you can't carry both IMO. IMO Burroughs having playes in Vcr he has the edge ?

If they are not planning for now and in 2-5 years then the OEL buy out makes even less sense. Because the biggest cap relief is this 2 years I think they are swinging for the fence and all in if they are planning for 2-5 years coulda just rode out the contract instead of slapping it for 8 years. I really don’t think JR cares much about the future of the team as he won’t be around much longer and wouldn’t give a f about if the Canucks fail they’ll be rebuilding another 10 years

They're banking on the Cap growing

Unless of course Hughes re-signs and becomes a Canuck for another 8 years or longer. Then a partner in 2 years when Hughes is the ripe age of 25 doesn't seem out of whack. I think people on CDC make way to much out of draft picks not being worthwhile because they take a couple years to mature. That's how it works, teams have to be planning not only for the now but surely in the 2-5 years timeframe as well.

Comparing theHronek trade with this trade maybe looks a little suspect

Ya it will be good to see kids competing for spots.

    Hoglander, Karlsson and Hirose

Are the three I think might push some vets out of the lineup.

    Hogs-Petey-Beauviller

    Mikheyev-Miller(still hoping trade)-Boeser

    Kuzmenko-Karlsson-Podz

    Garland-Aman-Joshua

    Hughes-Schenn

    Hirose-Hronek

    Brisebois-Myers

Tocchet said he wanted a centre who could "settle things down" and a good F/O guy. I dn't see either
