Should be fine. Liiga playoffs are usually done by the end of April. The transfer window for players like Jurmo is from the end of the Liiga schedule until June 15th, so they’ll have plenty of time to get a deal done. Even with draft rights expiring a couple weeks before the signing window officially ends, they’ll still have all of May to sign him to an ELC.

Benning/Weisbrod are gone and Dale Tallon is just doing scouting/advising, so there’s little chance Canucks management messes up the dates. ;)

    Ask Dale

Jurmos future is going to be a measure of Vcrs development scheme. Obviously has the physical accumens and skates well, so step up Mr Collinton and do your magic. He can be just what we're looking for

Yeah, plus, like I said previously in the thread, if signed to an ELC for 2023-24, Jurmo would have to be offered back on loan to his Finnish club if he didn’t make the NHL Canucks out of training camp.

Under the transfer agreement, he can’t really be sent to Abbotsford until he’s 22.

Better to just wait a year and sign him when the Canucks can have full control over where he plays.

Also saves them a year of paying out his ELC signing bonus money.

And since it would be a 3 year ELC this year, but a 2 year ELC next year, it’s the same timeline until he’s RFA.

I have very little doubt they’ll sign him next year, when it makes more sense (for all the reasons above).

He has to be signed prior to1stJune 2024

I don't see willander in the top tier of 12-13 players who have separated themselves from the rest ........kids who would probably be a #5-7 pick in a regular draft year.  In all likelihood, at least two of moore, asp, simashev, reinbacher will be there.  I wouldn't pick willander ahead of any of them

Exactly, you name 4 propects, we know who the top 5 are so we have an ods on chnace at #11 to get one of those. Sounds good to me

  4. So many fans inundate the fforum with their need for a big D'man and yet some how, some how  Jurmo fails to qualify. I liked him in the WJC and after all that's one of the most scouted tourneys. If Vcr doesn't sign him some one else will

I swear the cacophony that Canucks fans manage to make around our players and management gets around the league and rubs off on everyone.

Boeser or Garlund isn't tradeable because of canucks fans. Benning or Green doesn't get another job bc of Canucks fans.

You can't be serious. No professional GM refers to the Vcr fans before they make a move, none, zero, zilch. Why would they spend thousands on scout if all thy need is access the the Canucks forum, think about it

Tallon had has hands on the Chicago dynasty as well as the current Florida team.

He's been with us for only a year, but you're right OP, I haven't seen him or heard much from him.  Wouldn't be surprised if he's been allowed to work from home/scout stuff close to his home perhaps. He's getting up there in age.

Yeah i think he's pretty fixed as a Florida resident and  who can blame him. However it would be nice to hear the oddmention of him as in W

"Well Dale thought"  during management discussions. I will say this a senior advisor has been badly missed in Vcr for decades. I always though Pat Quinn could have filled the role of thoughtful second opinion/thought/reflection

Yeah, we can agree to disagree. I know I'm in the minority on this one. I think we needed a bonafide winger to play with Bo and we were short on cap space. No pretenders/tweeners. He ended up like Garland, shuffled through the line-up constantly finding himself on different lines while eating up a significant portion of the cap. Good player but there has to be more of a justification than simply good player for putting them on the team. Imo it's a mistake to organize a team in that fashion. For me it's like carrying 3 goalies. It doesn't really matter if they're all good at hockey or not. They are simply surplus to needs.

Like I said I really like Pearson, just not as a first or second line winger.

I think there's a comparison to be made between Pearson and the Stall Brothers. Vets with soome thing tokeep the train on the tracks

    Here's the issue with this.

    Gilbert Brule.

In the lead up to the 2005 draft, Brule was being compared to Crosby and people were debating if his skill put them in the same class and whether or not Brule should go 2nd in the draft.  Obviously it didn't happen as through the latter half of the year others picked it up and Brule actually never really grew any larger and had a mediocre combine.

Benson reminds me so much of Brule, Schroeder etc.  All that skill but.....just something missing.

Brule was a perfect example of impatience. They put him and basically his childs body direct into the NHL. He had his ribs crushed in hsi first season... Ouch

He’s led the team in scoring twice and sits at around 25 all time Canuck scoring.  He’s definitely “good” and I don’t think management was ever looking to give him away.

Given what he’s been through I think it’s more than fair to give him a chance to get back on track under Tocchet, who seems to love him.

I'm sorry what he's been through is no excuse. Likely every one on here has lost a parent and you know what you get up next day and go back to work. It's not nice but neither is life all the time. That excuse is getting a little long in the tooth IMHO. I'd like to be shocked wth a turn around  next season if he's still here but I have serious reservation

And it's one of those worthless later picks that takes years to develop. Go figure.

The question we need to ask ourselves is Pettersson better than Hirose. To me Hirose is standing in his way for the next number of years. That's not to say I don't like him, to me he's good especially at his age. However Hisrose  is  24 and likely ready this coming season. Plus who knows maybe Jurmo steps up. On the other side it's McWard or Johansson, especially now with Bear injured for the opening of the season, even if they do sign him. Unless we get a RHD in the draft. Man it's sparse on the right side

Yeah I see what your saying (You like more players than I do). Musty is only at 11 in one draft though ... all the others he's low teens or 20's I think. I think Richie is down there too (not on my list at all). Since I've been going through the prospects I do find those 8-9 guys all intriguing like I said. However, my viewpoint differs as I think there are only 6-7 that clearly separate themselves so I'd not like stepping down a tier or two (draft fail). For me it's always like a trade. Go for the best player over quantity.

    Leonard

    Moore

    Danielson

    Reinbacher

    Benson

    Wood

    Sale

are all guys I personally wouldn't risk missing on for anyone else. Certainly not Musty or Ritchie. I would be disappointed with them. If there were 3 or 4 more players I liked in that tier I'd agree with that move.

Totally get your point though. If our scouts have them like you do then yeah why not. We sure could use another top prospect. I wouldn't be as mad as when I watched the Juolevi draft on PVR. I threw my remote at the tv. I actually probably wouldn't be mad at all, just a little apprehensive and really hopeful.

Yeah if there was ever a perfect display of incompetance then Juolevi was it. I used to watch the guy and think what am I missing ?  after a couple of games it became obvious he couldn't pivot to the left and for a LHD that's a crucial need

So drafting a defensive liability will cut down on goals against?  Draft a defenceman who can actually play defence instead of ASP, who should be on the DND list.

We don't get another Hughes but he's the nearest D'man to him. As Craig Button said at the WJC wake me up if he ever makes a mistake. His introduction to the SEL was to replace a top 6 man,  in stepped ASP and ended up with, as I'm told  ended up as the D'man with the most TOI. Coaches want to win, that say a lot to me These are fact and indeed he played the most TOI of any  D'man in the WJC

I agree Boeser’s legacy is still being written - but if Malhotra is a major star for Gillis after not even a full healthy season, I think Boeser counts for Benning.   He’s also a pretty good distributor and good on the boards if he does have some work to do defensively.

Closing in on top 20 all time Canuck scoring with a #23 overall pick is pretty good work.

Wih all these skills you'd think he'd be easy to trade, but no one wants him. The real BB is not the BB that some make him out to be

  14. When it comes to who we pick it looks like there's no real bad pick. However the canucks do need to badly bring some quality to the defence IMO. It's been a thorn in their side for a long time. We have more forwards than we need. But I'd concentrate on a good D'man. I think a player like ASP could make our current forwards more productive and certainly cut down on goals against. Too often our current D look like a fire drill in their own end, add to that some forwards who don't help defensively and you end up with Canucks today. This is not a draft where you go for the sexiest of the guy who has eye catching stats in junior. This a draft about building a more complate team IMO

The Gillis era did absolutely nothing to extend our window to win. He ran this organization right into the ground in 5 years.

Meanwhile Boston who beat us in the finals continued to be a dominant organization for over a decade AFTER beating us. Gillis did what? Nothing.
such a great GM he never got another job offer and went to working as a professor at UVIC. Lmfao

Gillis DID win period!! Maybe for those who didn't follow the Canucks at that time they judge him by what did he give us today, which is wrong. He left 9 years ago (2014)

  16. I see DaleTallon is still listed and yet not sound is heard from him or indeed management. Senior advisor hockey opeations. I would have thought he'd be a tad more visible. Does he have an opinion, does he tend towards the Pro scouting ( I doubt he travels the amatuer circuit, it's more f a young mans job ) Does he attend scouting meetings. I'm simply curious

If the management made up their mind that they're not gonna "rebuild" (like it or not), then I am fine with the Hronek acquisition.

And I believe that giving up a 1st round pick is pretty much a must

I just dont like the fact that, they also attached a 2nd to the deal, instead of sending some contracts/cap relief to the Wings.

When they traded Horvat, they eat back the Beau contract and retained 25% of Horvat.  How come there's no money going back to the Wings for the Hronek deal? Why the management was ok for that deal when they knew they have huge cap problem?

Well maybe just maybe, just maybe they did try to include some cap relief in the way of an extra player off their books, however, maybe Detroit told them to shove it where the monkey shoves his nuts. When YOU are wanting to make the deal as a rule that puts you on the back foot. The question is did Vcr approach Det. or did Det. approach Vcr ?

So you finished filling out in your early 20s ? Your statement tells me you did. When I played which is quite a while ago. I can tell that my build at 19, 20. (6’3” 175 to 180 lbs) Was radically different.  By 25 I’d bumped up to 225.   Boeser started his career at 185ish ( 20 yrs old ) now at 26 he weighs in at 206. It’s not a stretch for both Hughes and petterson to bulk up. It certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise.

There's good weight and then bad weight. the need to meausre body fat is important
