Yes because your mentality of cheering when they win meaningless games at the end of the year (yet again) makes so much sense too.
It’s called pride. As in, having/taking it in what they do. While the Vancouver Canucks really haven’t fielded a squad to chirp about for a decade, I still love this franchise, and get absolutely no thrill up my leg whatsoever when it loses. I’m going out on the proverbial limb here by saying I don’t think the coaches and players do, either, and I’d be hella disappointed if they were lacing up the skates with draft day in mind.
That’s something for management and ownership to consider on the daily, not coaches and players.- 2

Miller is hoisting the Cup for us within 3 years. He’s that good. So much better than ...
I can definitely see Millsy taking a turn around the rink with the Cup above his head “within 3 years”. I just have my doubts it’ll be as a Canuck. This franchise is not “within 3 years” of a championship parade. They’re definitely headed in the right direction, though. I really believe that. Hopefully, people can get past the emotional response to seeing Boudreau get the elbow and embrace what was needed in hiring Tocchet. That was a major brick in the foundation. I just hope there isn’t any movement backwards this summer. I think that will probably rest either way on what happens with Millsy.

Hopefully his detractors in this market will realize what they/we had if/when he’s gone within the next year.

I understand wanting a better draft pick. Makes the losses easier to take. But players/coaches aren’t going to intentionally lose. Competitive people just aren’t built that way. There’s no point in complaining about players/coaches doing what they are paid to do. Win games.
THIS!!!
It’s exactly why I cringe when fans and media label pro athletes as “entertainers”. Why would anyone believe they’re out there for anything other or less than competition and the will to win?

That’s right Petey. A true badass fan celebrates the wins and losses right now.
So, you’re not a “true fan” if you’re not celebrating losses right now?

Hard to tank when the coach is playing Hughes 30 minutes a night…
You really believe it’s in Tocchet’s DNA to tank?

I am sorry to everyone... I do admit I miss Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli (with Pearson, who we never got to see on same line in VAN) and not much else.
With the organisation so high on Demko, Markstrom didn’t have a chance as a long term #1. Tanev and Edler (remember him?) both had reached the end of their contracts and the front office made the right decision to move on. Granted, it would’ve lessened the blow had they had a viable successor for each. Maybe they thought they did. But, if we’re being honest, this team hasn’t found the next Salo nor Bieksa, either. Its problems on the blue line go further than merely letting Edler and Tanev walk. They’re not developing anything in the minors at that position other than Hughes. He’s a good offensive Defenceman, but, what he lacks in actually playing defence is highlighted by the lack of a strong defencive partner from the right side.
Sure, I get that he can do no wrong in the eyes of the Vancouver market. But, just as Tanev offered no offense, I think Hughes still has plenty to prove in his own zone. The question for me is, will anyone in the organisation challenge him to be more of a 2-way NHL Defenceman? Or, has it been decided that his offensive game is so mesmerizing that he gets a pass? THAT has nothing to do with the absence of Edler and Tanev.- 1

Not to mention Demko stole this one despite 4 goals against.
Demko didn’t steal anything. He gave it away before the skaters bailed him out. It’s nice he’s back, but, not so nice that it’s still a hard job finding anyone in the Vancouver market who doesn’t predictably contort themselves to pump his tires when he gives one up. It’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault and NEVER on him.

Bruce shedding a tear wherever he is.
Interesting how the fan base has conveniently forgotten that Boudreau was hired in exactly the same manner last season that Tocchet was last week. Not that I miss Green, but, where was the outpouring of emotion in his favour whilst the organisation let him twist in the wind whilst Boudreau lurked in the shadows? Both coaching changes were warranted. The difference is Boudreau was never going to be the long-term solution, whereas, that’s the expectation with his predecessor and successor.

Tocchet juggling the lines when we're winning?
He’s apparently had only 1 full practice with the boys. How else to get a look at what he’s got? Especially with the break coming up.

If he'd take all of the emotion he's throwing away on little tantrums and channel it in to playing solid defensively like he has done in the past he may have saved Bruce's job. Well, JT and a few others. Offence has been very good this year, defensively the team's a train wreck. It's making some decent goalies look bad.
Was the job ever Boudreau’s to save for the long term, though? We heard Bic and Sat tire of Allvin seemingly making excuses for Miller, but, when will the Vancouver market tire of making excuses for “decent goalies” who simply need to play better? Yes, I’m including Demko at the top of that list, dating back to last season.

Chris Tanev was elite, top 5 shutdown dmen in the league. We let him walk and even worse, most of the fanbase was okay with letting him walk
Tanev elite? Yikes! He was above-average and more than serviceable as a Canuck...when he's not injured. Too high-risk to have re-signed.

Lol if you think dropping Fbombs while coasting to the bench or slamming your stick on the boards while yelling at the ref is the kind of emotion a team needs from leaders.
I'd prefer that to the usual fresh-faced dullards that the Vancouver market tends to favour.

It really isn't. Not the Head Coach, anyway. But, he will be the first to go, unfortunately.

It's not nice. It's indifference.. way worse. Guys like Bo, Miller, Myers etc just don't care about playing a team toughness game or fostering pack mentality. If It doesn't come from the leaders it doesn't come at all
You're really reaching if you think Miller doesn't care. He's the same guy who caught hell from the more soft-bottomed Canuck fans and Vancouver pundits last season for being pretty much the only player showing emotion when things weren't going well, remember? You think he's changed now just because he got paid?

Yeo is Boudreau's guy. I would expect that both of them would go.
It sounds like Rutherford was ok with Boudreau in the short term. He's a feel good guy, lightens up the room and they needed that. It's time to get down to business now.
If it really is "time to get down to business now", the guys at 650 just floated a name I hadn't thought of yet: Rick Tocchet. No-nonsense, not another first-time NHL Head Coach, and a Pittsburgh connection.

Even if BB gets fired, who the hell would want to coach this team? You could bring in Trotz but I don't think any coach can make the playoffs with this sorry excuse of a roster and D corps. These players don't seem to care about winning.
If Yeo takes over then this has tank written all over it.
I read an interview with Trotz a few weeks ago. He's not a guy who sounds excited to coach in a Canadian market.

I grew up on vinyl (and 8-Tracks!) and never stopped buying them. Have bought probably less than 50 CD's my entire life. Don't own any currently.

Hope management realizes this is the best and easist year to tank.
trade some good older pieces and go for a home grown superstar.
With the exception of the Cavaliers taking LeBron James, I'm generally not in favour of going for the hometown kid just because they're a hometown kid. Gotta put more thought into it than that.

Too bad the Bieksa Bump only worked for one game.
All that building culture talk went in one ear and out the other
I cringe when the old school former Canucks talk about "culture" and "identity" in the present tense as it relates to this franchise. Those 2 things left with AV.

Sorry, but, fans do not “suffer”. We don’t play in the games. Pretty sure no one at this board has been released, demoted or traded because of how much the Canucks have stunk for the last decade.
