  1. Assuming he passes the physical, Chychrun. No doubt. It also depends on what "extra" means in this case. I do figure a 1st is in the mix, as well as some other prospects etc.

How many scoring guys do the Canucks need on the left side? Chychrun can fill that bill, and to my mind he can also do things which Dahlin can't (do as well... probably). And he costs less (on his current contract).

If the Canucks do go after Dahlin, they may as well trade Hughes (or try to convince Ekman-Larsson to waive, and then send him somewhere with a 50% retention ++). The team could also insert Rathbone in place of Hughes, because Rathbone is such a prolific scorer...

Dahlen is having a damn good season with the Sharks. Where is Linus Karlsson even?

It seems like Dahlen was having a damn good streak, and he's cooled off in the last 10+ games (1g 4a, if I added the numbers up correctly). Maybe he'll warm it up again.

lol dunno why u even bother mention OEL even if they waive lol.. why would Arizona want to take back the contract that they dumped and not wanting to pay? your assets other than the 1st round pick have little to no value in a trade. toss in Boeser who's going to cost them at least 7.5mil to sign the next 2 years assuming he's going to take his QO and walk as soon as he hits ufa u ain't even close. on top we prolly lose miller to UFA or trade him back for 1st and prospect we literally lose our entire 1st line.

Well (lol) I am only going by what others have posted in the past (lol), or are currently posting (lol). And it's not only for potential trades to Arizona (lol), but to other trade scenarios (lol) involving multiple trade partners... (lol).

He probably did as good a job at that than several other guys currently on the Sharks' active roster could have done, and for several million less per season.  :P

This being said, other Japanese performers/groups which I do like (these can all be found in "White Noise").:

    Majiko - great vocalist.

    Drop's - a nice bluesy sound

Hump Back - a Ramones kind of feel

                                                   regards,  G,

  6. If indeed Chychrun is up for grabs, I'd make sure that the team got a full medical.

    * no moving Pearson or Ekman-Larsson, unless they waive.

    * cap considerations will have to be taken into account

As to assets which could be moved:

    - the Canucks' 1st for this year

    - Carolina's 3rd for this year

    - Rathbone

    - Lockwood

    - DiPietro (forgot to add him)

    - Gadj.... nvm

Deal broadeners: These could be necessary depending on the cap issues. As has previously been noted, the Canucks can't take on Chychrun's contract without losing cap.

    - Boeser(?), but if he were included then I'd be looking to broaden the deal to get more back from Arizona (they toss in a 2nd for a 3rd, or something like that). Further, there would be a reduced package going to Arizona (lesser/fewer picks and/or prospects) and perhaps a few more parts coming back. This does solve the cap considerations.

    - Dickinson. Takes a chunk out of the cap issues. I'd rather not part with this guy (as with Boeser), but ....

    - maybe picks from next year (perhaps not the 1st, but it could be a possibility depending on other assets given up)

    - Ferland's LITR(?)

Kerry was one of the best, some of his stories in Dick Irvins book “Tough Calls” are legendary. Highly recommend that book for some insanely funny stories from the officials perspective.

I like the story about Fraser v. Gretzky, and how Fraser refused to call penalties on supposed dives by Gretzky. Good for a chuckle.

Makes sense to get this move done early so Rutherford has a trusted lieutenant and sounding board as he makes his assessment of the roster over the next month and a half.

Clancey comes from a pro scouting background (Pro Scout, Director of Pro Scouting, Director of Player Personnel) and was instrumental in helping JR make the moves needed to bring in the final pieces to build those Cup-winning teams in Pittsburgh.

In a Machiavellian sense, Rutherford also gets a trusted lieutenant and sounding board in the room for meetings which he (JR) might not otherwise be in attendance. This could be useful if the successful candidate for the new GM job is someone who is not a trusted associated who has previously worked with Rutherford.

His contract is right in line with where he plays IMO. Your points are bang on and what I'll add is he's by all account a much liked teammate and we've lost enough of those.

Plus he's not taking anyone's minutes so not sure why people are so concerned with him.

We lose him and Chiasson bumps up a spot.

    Yeah him, or Gadj..... nvm.

Key point is he is separated from Horvat. For right now he is OK.

Yup. This seems to be good for all concerned, especially Boeser. Horvat seems to be doing well, as is Miller, and Pearson.

Pearson is a trade bait candidate along with everyone else on his current line.

Yup, but in Pearson's case he has a NTC for this year, and a M-NTC for next year, so I don't see him being traded this season unless he absolutely wants to be traded.

Miller and Boeser are carrying that line specifically JT Miller has turned playmaker.

Well, this being said, have you noted the role that Pearson has played in these last four games. He has set up goals, or placed himself in a position where where he can gain possession of the puck, which leads to scoring chances, if not goals (by Boeser and Miller).

Hoglander has sparked the line with Horvat and Dickinson is filling the Tanner Pearson role but has brought more speed and hitting.

Garland has been an absolute magician with Petersson and Podkolzin as well.

They are playing about as well as they can collectively right now.

    I agree.

I suppose my issue in this thread is that the argument against Pearson (mostly) seems to be people complaining about his contract, and not necessarily his play. Pearson had no input on his contract other than agreeing to the sum his agent put before him (ie. blame Benning). Pearson does not decide his TOI, or who he has as line mates. If this is a concern for someone then they should complain to the coach. Otherwise, in these last four games, Pearson has played pretty well, based on the success of Boeser and Miller (in which Pearson has played some part).

The fact he is in the top 6 and on the 1st unit pp ever is the problem. He just doesn’t do enough with those prime minutes and linemates. Sooner or later, “he is good enough” in key roles needs to not be good enough for a team that wants to be a contender.

Okay, so what do we do about this menace? Forcing his way into the top-6! Why doesn't someone bring this to the attention of the GM, that this player is pushing the coach around and getting undeserved top-6 TOI?

And while we're at it, why doesn't someone tell Rutherford about this guy's contract? Maybe get him to give back $1 million, or whatever they feel is appropriate?

What team signs a guy to play him significantly in the top 6 and on the PP and doesnt expect even moderately consistent offensive production? Teams that value the wrong things in players, that’s who.

Don’t count this year or that year, just their GOOD years.”

“So many outside factors that make it impossible for them to do their job.”

Etc etc etc. Soubds like Benning and Green. Excuses. No accountability at all.

Are you really suggesting that Petterssen and Pearson are equivalent offensive players and equally important to the team?  Come on man. Pearson could be replaced by any number of inconsistent guys for a 1 to 1.5 mil cap hit and we would not lose much of anything.

    Sounds kind of ironic.

Being an effective net front guy takes talent for sure. Deflecting pucks is not easy.

Not sure I would describe Pearson or Chiasson as elite level puck deflectors though. Big bodies who stand there and try to screen and jam at rebounds sure. But neither are particularly adept at getting their stick on the puck for an efficient deflection.

I can't say that I'd describe Pearson as a front of net kind of guy (in that traditional sense). He seems to be taking up a spot to the left of the goalie, and from there he collects rebounds and passes, which he then dishes off to other players, like Boeser.

So, Pearson is awful because you (and some others) don't like his contract. Got it.

Pearson is an option as a 3rd line winger. Veteran presence so i am hoping he is a mentor. My question becomes whether Dickenson permanently pushes Pearson down the lines. Bottom line also becomes whether JR can get value from him at anytime other than at a TDL frenzie?

I can't say that Dickinson has ever shown an offensive flair, so I'm going to suggest that he will continue to be a bottom-6 kind of guy. Pearson has shown a couple of instances where he broke 20+ goals in a season. Aside from people not liking his contract, I don't see anyone (currently) associated with the team replacing Pearson in his middle-6 role.

You should look up the difference between causation and correlation.

Funny how it’s apparently Pearson who got Boeser scoring again not Boeser or Boudreau’s coaching.

Heard this about Pearson his whole time here as an excuse for his lack of actual consistent play. Watch the Boudreau games again. Watch only Pearson the whole game. He played better with Miller and Boeser but can’t keep up with the Boudreau pace consistently for the whole game. He reverted back to being a step behind and static defensively a lot in those games.

He is probably the most overrated player on the team here on CDC. At 2 mil on a 3rd line his production and inconsistency would be ok. As a top 6 and pp guy with the guys he gets to play with? His production is garbage.

And here I thought we were friends...

I don't recall saying that Pearson was *the* reason for Boeser currently getting his scoring touch back. but I did note that, "Pearson seems to be a factor in Boeser getting his scoring touch back". Now, other factors in this are the changes brought in by the new coach, how that has affected Boeser (and the entire team), how well Miller is playing with Boeser and Pearson and so on.

Is Pearson (sometimes) iinconsistent? Yup. Is he the only guy on the team who seems to suffer from this malady? Nope (eg. Pettersson or Boeser). Other guys get a pass for inconsistent play, mostly because they are the current darling of a portion of the fanbase (eg. Pettersson or Boeser). This is cool, and these sorts of opinion will always be around.

Did you (or anyone else) notice Pearson's play in that LA game when it came to the that goal by Boeser? The one where he snuck down deep to the goalie's left side in order to receive a pass from Miller, and then Pearson waited a moment for the traffic to clear from around Boeser, before sending him a crisp pass for the goal?  Pearson has demonstrated a (usually good) situational awareness, for example the first goal of the game (by Boeser) against Carolina.

As to being a step behind, has Boeser been playing (almost) every shift with Miller/Pearson because he plays at the Boudreau pace?

Is Pearson overrated? Perhaps. Is Pearson the most overrated player on the team? Arguments could be made to the contrary. If a guy is expected to score 30+ goals in a season, and he only gets 20+ goals in a season, is he overrated? If a guy gets third to 2nd line tweener point production, is he overrated or is he doing what is expected of him?

The bolded part above pretty much sums up your position, regardless of whatever you type here. In your opinion (and others), Pearson is being paid too much for where he plays and what he does. Cool. I don't see why there is this hate for some players for the contract they sign. Player Name's contract was a "WTF?" moment for me, and he really didn't live up to that deal based on what might have been expected of him (20+ goals/50+ assists playing with the Sedins). On the other hand, Pearson wasn't expected to be anything more than a third line guy that could fill in on the 2nd line until someone better came along. Did Pearson hold a gun to Benning's head (ala Don Corleone) and force him to sign a contract? Nope. From what I'm seeing, all of the position(s) against Pearson appear to come down to, "IDON'TLIKEHIMBECAUSEITHINKHEGETSPAIDTOOMUCHMONEY!".

With the above in mind,  who gets put in Pearson's place in the top-6, and will suddenly spring forth and score 30+ goals in a season? Perhaps even a mere 20+ goals? Who is better? Dickinson? Motte? Lockwood (maybe next season)?

Well, he's doing pretty good for a middle six tweener. If there are complaints about his contract/cap hit, then go talk to Benning about that.

Pearson seems to be a factor in Boeser getting his scoring touch back, and he also plays well with Miller, so an argument can be made that Pearson is the catalyst of that line for the last four games. Look at the first goal of the LA game, which started the current streak.
