Svech did it twice in the NHL this season so far no? Doing it in the best league is more impressive, but still shows off slick hands regardless.

To me tho, I don't care how the puck gets in the net, there are no style points...still only counts as 1G if its lacrosse style or off your shin pad/face or just a regular old shot.

Hope he has a productive tournament then finishes the season strong in Sweden

Both of Hogs' goals were flashier, faster and looked slicker than Svech's ...and one was with someone right on him...

If Hogs can do that...he can score goals anyway he wants and with EP or QH to feed him I can see him scoring plenty...!

Honestly how do u reach that conclusion?? Do you have alternate facts ( to quote Kelly Ann Conway) than the rest of us. The only consistent, to me any way, is he's injury prone again and again plus his stats put him in the cellar of the AHL stats. I watched with great interest in Rafferty last season and from being a player I had no idea about, he showed a lot and from every thing I've read has continued in Utica. The coach has him on the 1st PP I believe and he's racking up points at an above average rate when compared with his pears( best in the AHL). Will OJ reach the same level in 3 years time is not a given. Let's hope but we have no  facts to suggest that will be the case. Maybe Lind will be better than Boeser but that's not what the facts tell us. I'm just putting in time until we get into the turkey

It's just my opinion of course and as I stated before in this thread...if Juolevi stays healthy until the playoffs we may be all talking about how we should bring both he and Rafferty up together and go with 8 D. and rest Edler and Tanev (if he is still around) for a few games here and there.

If Rafferty hasn't topped out he could well be bonus D. by then...and Oli being healthy for half a season will no doubt vault his skills, confidence and speed...he is young and still learning at a fast rate when healthy....

Might be gone by 3.  But there is another couple of high compete wingers with good releases rated in the teens where we are more probably picking too.

And I am unsure how you think it is possible we pick 31st.  If we make the playoffs Tampa gets our first pick.

I do not understand why people seem to think this is a must make playoffs year.  To me this is a cannot make playoffs year as we need this next first rounder.

...That was humour ...if we win the cup, of course we give TB the first...

...I am not...repeat...not saying we are going to win the cup...

I want OJ to enjoy success it will provide some excitement and maybe a top 4 D. Regretfully that hasn't shown and I can only judge from facts. There's no point in making excuses or dreaming of stardom. IMO for a player such as OJ but any player really he has to be an all round quality player with some speciality that sets him apart from other candidates. As of today I just don't hear reports that suggest this is close at hand. A good example is Rafferty who is  sound O/A ( or so all the reports state) and adds his offense as the distinguishing feature

Rafferty is 3 years older and has a reputation of giving up odd man rushes the other way...

is he ahead of Oli today...yes ...but in 3 years Oli will be better than Raf is now....

    Just watch...1

Juolevi has played a combined 50 games in the AHL, Rafferty has played 30 games total. Juolevi has played 22 this season and Rafferty 30. Just to keep the math correct

Rafferty is 24 Juolevi is 21....

I am sure that  if Oli can stay injury free for the rest of the season...we will be talking about bringing them both up as a duo for the playoffs...

  7. Tchapuke and Johnny hockey have  both been pegged as players that Calgary will need to move in the near future...we would be in the same place if we had them and likely without either EP or QH as well ...

Having OJ develop slowly is a good thing in the long run...as long as he can put the injury thing behind him...at least as much as Edler ( who misses 10-20 games or more every season) then it will work out way better for us in the long run...!

And Pavel was a slam dunk pick.  If we didn't get lucky and draft him a year earlier than other teams thought he was eligible, then Pavel goes top five for sure, and maybe first OA.  I don't think anyone questioned Pavel's greatness.  Pods IMO will be a very good player for us, but even JB said (after he drafted Pods) the he was going to be a support player.

Someone like Jake...only with a bit more purpose when he crashes the net...so maybe 2nd line kind of level, or literally anywhere on our team...in a year or 2...

  9. The reality is...we haven't seen the fully developed, healthy, able to turn without pain or stiffness...Juolevi...when we see him for decent sample size...a half season or more...

Then we can see if he remains a lower +/- player than his teammates....and if it matter's....in Hughes case it doesn't matter he brings so much on offense and the PP.

The end of the season might shed some light on what direction he is going....not much before...

I will reserve judgement until Olli is given the chance to partner with Tanev.

I have not watched Olli play, so I don't know what his D game is like. Is his foot speed slow? Does he have trouble positioning his body for board play? How is his gap control? How is his stick checking? Does he exhibit high D zone IQ or does he make dumb plays like a lot of young D's?

    ...see page 1 through 645....

OK seriously we haven't seen a fully healthy Oli so no-one knows....

  11. The pundits are already saying Quinn would be in the top 3 in a re-draft...with one saying he thinks in a year or 2 Quinn might prove to be the best player out of that draft...

Which would make him generational...as that is moniker given to Dahlin.

Sounds right to me...no-one controls the puck better and has more escapability than Quinn does right now...and he is improving week by week...!

  12. Sounds like Oli was instrumental in keeping the puck in the O zone several times before rifling a pass to Boucher for the tying goal.

It won't take long for him to round into form if he can just stay healthy...!

I actually don’t see why he’d sign here or even if we would want to sign him.

You don’t just give out the precious 50 contracts like candy.

If we had signed fringe guys like him, we wouldn’t have had any spots left to sign guys like Rafferty and Teves .

The way Madden is playing shows that he is likely as good as Gaudette....who is not a fringe player...however Rafferty and Teves are fringe players....so your logic is bass akwards...

  14. Kanuckfanatic....while I am here I thought I would let you know that the quote you have at the bottom of your sig. ...was qualified by the statement "if he is ready to go" by fall or training camp...Juolevi was not ready to go then and did not play any preseason games...if you want a new quote that reflects the way things really are here ya go;;;;;;

Juolevi will (if healthy) make the Canucks out of training camp (barring ill health) next year...as long as he is healthy...!

    Just watch....!

  15. You injure your left knee...and you overwork your right knee and tear some meniscus...then you tweak your back because you are guarding against injuring your knees again...then your hip gets tired of the argument between your knees and your back...

My guess is that he is just trying to hard to protect to much AND he needs some of Baer's Tia-Chi or whatever it is he uses to stay limber...I haven't watched any of his games this year but he has always looked a bit stiff when turning.

We will see how does from here...but shutting him down for season or until he gets limbered up at least ...isn't a bad idea.

Woo is ahead of the Bahl kid.  Just because the politics of team Canada makes for stupid choices (and is why we aren't winning the Gold again this year) is not reason to belittle one of our prospects.  If you like Bahl so much, then go to his team's board and say great stuff about him there.  Don't write crap about out guys here, especially our prospects.  That triggers Alf, and (considering this is a Canuck's board) seems kind of like trolling, doesn't it?

Not dissing Woo...I like him, but he is not ahead of Juolevi at this point and Bahl was the guy I wanted us to draft by trading down a few spots from were we took Woo and also getting another late round pick as  a result of trading down.

Don't get your fur in a bunch....

Juolevi hasn’t played any meaningful stretch of professional games in two years.  WAY too early to even consider him as a possible call up in the near future (especially since he’s just skating in practice with the Comets right now).  I’d put Woo ahead of him at the moment just for that fact alone right now.

Woo isn't even ahead of Kevin Bahl at moment...

Juolevi needs to be healthy...if he can do that...he can play in the NHL ...period...

Ya I saw that. Also odd because Bahl is a lefty and they invited 2 undrafted right handed prospects instead of Woo.

Kinda hard not be be disheartened a little about Woo's development. Doesn't seem to be taken the next step and a few guys like Addison and Bahl who were drafted lower got the invite over him.

Last year got me all hyped up that Woo could be a top 4 guy in the NHL but right now I'm more expecting a Jamie Benn type bottom pairing guy if he even cracks the NHL.

Until they get to the NHL it's hard to say who will be better...but we needed a Tryamkin replacement at the time...still do...Meyers is fine but he doesn't hit much...

  19. Looks like Team Canada is going with Kevin Bahl as the tough shutdown guy...that is who I wanted us to take by trading down a few spots from were we took Woo and get another late round pick as well.

it will be interesting to see how these 2 compare over the next few years...
