  1. Just saw Tchapuke's kick at the back of the leg of Scheffle (sp.) ...it was totally on purpose ...there is no way that is a natural motion...

I am so glad we didn't end up with such a low life puke on our team...he should be turfed from playing for the rest of the year for that one....!!!

OJ's somewhat of a defensive liability and needs to improve his skating, particularly his lateral movement and first step. He has decent transition play, ok passing and not much for a shot.

Rathbone's skating is borderline elite, he has a cannon of a shot, and his transitional play is high quality. He has a good pass and creates plays in a way Juolevi can't.

And Jack has top-4 potential whereas Juolevi will likely top out as a bottom-pairing defender. I know that's more to do with potentials than where they're at right now, but Rathbone is definitely the better prospect.

I definitely see Rathbone getting more NHL action than Juolevi come next season when he can play.

OJ's  outlet pass is first class, his skating is good...better than anyone we have now on D not named Quinn...his shot is hard and accurate...

They are almost the same age so we will see how it shakes out....but i wouldn't be dissing Oli just yet....his mobility is only going to get better now that his hip is finally healed and that was his only real problem...at least that is what kept him from addressing any of his defensive issues.

I think they will both take a spot by TDL next year ....

EP had two good scoring chances his first shift ... both guys were very dangerous ... teams won’t have it easy against two scoring lines to shutdown instead of one.

The announcer's last night even referred to Horvat's line playing  the Jets first line as "best on best"...but we have 2 "best" lines and our 3rd line is going to be scoring some goals as well.

We just need to shake off the curse of the "Millionaires" ....calling the first hockey team in Vancouver that name might be the reason for 50 years of bad luck....

If it had been the Ditchdiggers we would have won the cup by now...!!!

    Shortening the post again? ;)

(Sorry Rollieo, I’m just playing :))

Whatever his category was when we signed him....the point is that many saw it as a waste of a contract...I could see the fire in his game and the lack of fire in anyone's game that was on the roster at the time we got him....so I knew he had a good shot to become something.

I don't like playing word games with people...not even you Sid....

....I should qualify my lack of humour this morning though...I just had a run in with a Nazi racist idiot and my blood is still boiling...

We never drafted MacEwen, he went through the drafts without being picked by any team and we signed him as a 20-year old free agent. I would say it is possible MacEwen could be more than a bottom six player, but it's quite unlikely. Virtanen has shown in the WHL that he has the skill to do it and even just this past year, he's already shown he's capable of 20 goals.

Keep in mind--MacEwen is actually older than Virtanen by about a month. This isn't a 21 year old with tons of growing up left to do, we're talking about a guy who just turned 24 years old who's just now breaking into the NHL. There is, however, a great example for what you're hoping for. Burrows was 24 years old when he first broke into the NHL and we all know how great he became. He had a breakout season when he was 26 and at 27 he broke out even more with a 28-goal season.

I'm not saying it's impossible that MacEwen becomes a top six player, but very few players do what Burrows did. Virtanen has already shown glimpses of top six play and he's the same age as MacEwen. Both players appear to be on an upward trajectory, but Virtanen is several steps ahead at the same age.

I knew we signed him as a fee agent...I was just shortening the post....

The point is MacEwen has more hockey sense, more common sense and less shotgun nonsense...I have him ahead of Jake in most categories but most importantly...

    Maturity and Will....

Both way more important than the difference in skill...which is also negligible....so ya...give me Big Mac all day everyday...

I don't see MacEwen and Virtanen as comparable players as some do. Mac's ceiling is a third line centre whereas Virtanen has clear top 6 potential as a 20-goal guy. The edge MacEwen might have is a more consistently hard-working game. MacEwen could be a better bottom six player, but Jake has more offensive potential. If Virtanen can't maintain his offense, Mac could usurp him because he may be better than Jake if Virtanen's dropped to the third line.

I have to take issue with MacEwen's ceiling....when we drafted him ...some said his ceiling was the AHL ...at best....I knew better and had him at a ceiling of bottom 6...

Zack has shown great hands in close and the willingness to get to the front of the net and stay there...he has almost the same speed as Jake and is feistier overall.

I think Zack's ceiling will be well over 20 goals and with less headaches' over extra curricular activity than Jake.

If Jake ever grows up....he can be a top 6...I haven't seen much interest from him in actually growing up though....so for now anyway Zack has more upside just due to that alone...

At this point I tend to agree with this... Green is always more stick than carrot with Jake to get him going so I wouldn’t read too much into it just yet.  He’s still the most dynamic guy in the bottom 6. (Edit) and showed up in games this year, not just camps.

I think it’s the lineup Drance/Sid have posed with Jake and Sutter in until injuries or after an exhibition or two. Roussel has apparently been taking reps with the PK group... and a healthy ready to go 18/19 Rou is 100% in the lineup.

    Miller-Petey-Toffoli

    Pearson-Bo-Brock

    Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen

    Motte-Beagle-Sutter

I do think it’ll be a short leash for Jake/Sutter if they’re dinged up or play poorly through the exhibitions.  Mac and even Loui have had strong camps and playoffs are Ferland’s time.

This the first time in years  (MAYBE EVER )...that we have had so much depth that 3 bodafide NHL's might have to sit in the stands come opening night....

Personally if Big Mac keeps up the pace at camp i would put him in and if Sutter doesn't put out and make a difference ....Ferland will...and then there is a rejuvenated Luoi...

Juolevi is finally healthy and able to push for a spot as well...

We are going to surprise some people ...starting next week....!!!!

I've been rooting for Big Mac since I watched his highlight package with Gatineau the day we signed him.

The fact that he's a late bloomer and to had to work for everything he's got only adds to the fact that he's just a good-sized player with very decent hands and feet.

If he's going to bring it every night and plays physical while continuing to make plays offensively, I don't see how you can keep him out of the lineup. I like Jake Virtanen, but what does he really bring that Zack doesn't?

Me too ...for the first underlined sentence....

    Shotgunability ...for the second....

The price tag will vary depending on the player obviously, but trading for a younger player is more worthwhile for any team.

The struggle would be moving Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel and/or any of the other contracts that we would need to move in order to lock Pettersson and Hughes up to 8 year deals.

When we win the cup and Erikson scores the winning goal...or scores 5 goals and 10 points ...due to the writing being on the wall if he doesn't (Utica)...and same for R & B

...both are playoff performers and with Big Mac and other's coming we won't be needing them...

So they should each fetch  a 2nd rounder if not a protected first ( how great would that be )...never mind having to throw in Gaudette or Mac....!

...We just need the cup first...

If OJ rides him into the boards he either takes a penalty attempting to do so or it just ends the drill which kind of defeats the purpose. It's a drill to test defensive change of direction (agility), OJ could absolutely pin him against the boards (if he caught him) but that doesn't benefit him or Hughes in that drill. OJ looked pretty good from an agility stand point. Hughes is a top 3 skater in the league in that scenario, the fact that OJ could hand with him is a good sign. Edler is held to high regard around here for good reason, but he would have been left behind or had his ankles broken.

    Exactly...!

I don’t necessarily expect him to make the team, but I do expect him to compete for a spot during next season’s camp. He definitely had a shot at playing for the Canucks next season.

A lot will depend on which players we have already under contract. But if Rathbone looks ready, it would make sense (especially because of the cap issues) to use him as a cost controlled roster option, while he’s still very cheap on his ELC.

I meant your average CDC'r....there is at least 2 of us that think he has a shot...I put him down for the year after next just because I think Juolevi will make it this coming year.

Ny preference would be...if the kids can play...let them play and trade someone instead of letting them walk like we will likely be doing with Tanev in order to sign Marky and Toffoli.... damn cap clawback and covidiosy....

OJ still can be the better player of the three if he is healthy.

    This...!

The thing is that everyone  is disappointed that Oli wasn't able to make the team this year as a 21 year old with injury issue's...

Yet no one expects a 21 year old Rathbone to make the team....

It's all on the expectations people have...If Oli is healthy and able to move his hips better I think he could replace either of our 7-8 D. men next year and be much better by the end of the year (than Benn or Fanty)

    Rathbone the year after and  then we have;

    Juolevi / Hughes

    Rathbone / Meyers

    Tryamkin / Stetcher

    Woo  /  Rafferty

    I must have missed something.
When did OJ prove to be an NHL dman?
Did he just put together a season that should make us think he is ready for the NHL playoffs?

Lots of people control the puck better than Benn.  But he is also a veteran NHL dman who seems like a step it up in the playoffs kinda guy.

    August....2020...

    Just watch...!

I tend to think you're right about defensive schemes. I understand that Green wants the D to jump in and it certainly provides more entertainment ( some times good some times not so much) but IMO the first move that needs to be made is to limit this "jumping into the attack to certain D'men. You can't let the likes of Benn and Fatenburg or Tanev to jump up because  they don't have the wheels to get back and prevent an out numbered counter attack. Plus of course we need more emphasis for forwards to retreat better. One of the things I don't always like about Virtanen is his occasional slow back check ( as a rule the TV rarely shows the back checkers )

I thought Jake was MUCH better on the back-check this year, he is starting to get it...I do agree in previous years he needed work...I just think the whole D. scheme could be tightened up quite a bit with better coaching...

The Wild seem to have that side of there game down...so we will get to see how it goes with us having a decent O. scheme and a great PP but the Wild having the D. scheme...

If we can tighten up a bit we should sail past them...but if not it could be ugly...

His lack of durability is proven and that’s not even in an 82 game grind against the size and Hits he’ll Face in the nhl.
Another year in the minors won’t hurt anyone.... well except probably him again.

At barely 22 years of age....nothing is proven...including durabliity....as far as that goes ...you could say with better believability  that Tanev has a proven "lack of durablility" and yet he had a healthy season.

Tell me all about it when Oli is 25 and is still on the shelf...

Yeah, we have great promise among the forwards, but we have to rebuild this defence to win a cup.

Tryamkin, Rafferty and a healthy Joulevi might be enough...we really only need to replace Tanev if we don't sign him, Benn and Fantenberg...

I think our D. could be better than they have shown with a better structure provided by a better coaching scheme than we have seen...hopefully they hire someone who can make that happen...Green is finally doing alright with the forwards but he doesn't seem to know how to coach the defensive schemes very well...

  17. Hogs has all the moves of a player I used to hate...still not fond of....P. Kane...as well as a few that Kane can't do....

    Predictions;

We will be playing for the cup next year and Hogs will join us for the run...

We will win the cup with Hogs and Podz playing a big role in 2022....

The Donald will be seeking asylum in Putinlandia....by the end of 2021...
