I don't think Rafferty is going to get regular playing time.  The PTO and impending signing of Hamonic all but guarantees that, IMHO.  My expectation is that the coaches see Juolevi as a better option than Rafferty since he's more steady in the defensive zone but can still contribute with the breakout.  The question to me is how the Canucks will manage Rafferty's usage.  Will they send Rafferty to Utica or keep him on the taxi squad?  My guess is one of Chatfield or Rafferty will be demoted but in deciding to demote anyone, quarantine requirements will make it challenging for them to bring in anyone from Utica up quickly.

There are going to be some interesting decisions.  Based on what we're seeing so far, I could see the following:

    Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

    Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander

    Roussel-Sutter/Gaudette-Virtanen

    Motte-Beagle-MacEwen

    Hughes-Hamonic

    Edler-Schmidt

    Juolevi-Myers

    Holtby, Demko

Depending on how management wants to manage the cap and player availability:

Healthy Scratches:  possible none or some mix of players from the Taxi Squad except for Eriksson to the max 23 player roster

Taxi Squad (max. 6):  Eriksson, Baertschi (over Bailey and Lind), Benn, Rafferty or Chatfield, Hawryluk (over Graovac), possibly Gaudette/Sutter, possibly Rathbone depending on whether the team will keep any healthy scratches that are not on the taxi squad

    LTIR:  Ferland

Management could shock by demoting Eriksson but I have a very hard time seeing that happening.  The cap benefit of either having him on the taxi squad or in Utica is the same as far as I understand it.

There was talk of Lockwood being a potential surprise to make the team but I have a hard time seeing him make it based on his development and cap constraints.  It's probably better for a guy like Lockwood to play in Utica instead of just practicing and watching games.  He seems unlikely to get into the line-up outside of some major problems.  Michaelis has looked decent but I also think he would probably be seen as being better served by playing in Utica this year.

Juolevi and Rafferty play opposite sides so they aren't competing with each other....Raff is competing with Chatfield and soon Hamonic...

Personally, I would love to see Baertschi succeed and secure a roster spot.  I can't see that working out for cap reasons though unless Ferland is in fact on LTIR and Baertschi is the Canucks' "addition" at forward with that cap space.

The 4-6 man "taxi squad" can be used to save cap by putting louie and Sven on it...just read that today...it seemed to imply that the whole salary was saved not just the million or so under normal "send down" conditions....

  3. As others have said ...Jack will have to play close to Quinn's level ...just to be considered for a top 6 spot...

Maybe the taxi squad might work if they get him in every 3 game or so...otherwise he should go the AHL whenever that happens....just to be able to play games.

  4. He is probably just hoping he can find immediate chemistry with Petey and JT....

Then he won't have to play much D., ....just be ready for the Petey stretch pass and don't get beat down the wing...for the few seconds per shift they will be defending...

does this mean Benning won the Dahlen trade too?

Probably....but Dahlen has more points in the same league (actually he is leading the league in points)...

Linus has a more rounded game and it will likely transfer better too the NHL...

Pretty sure I could have scored that goal.............That was some heavy lifting by Hoglander

He made it look pretty easy....it was not!

That move/pass is just what EP needs to start scoring 50+ goals a year....Podz. on the other side retrieving pucks and storming the net....

    ....unstoppable...!

Exactly, Seider. was a first round pick, very well thought of. We tend to get over excited on the forum about lessor picks  in Vcr. There has to be a comparison to make sense of what we have. I'm not knocking Hoglander I'm saying don't put maybe unlikely expectations on the kid. Adam Tambellini is not a natural for out roster and who knows what lies ahead for Hoglander. IMO fans get, usually without much in the way of facts get all ginned up about our prospects. It's not that long ago Lind was the be all and now  he's been replaced by Hoglander

...I hear you...but ...Lind can only dream of scoring a Lacrosse goal...probably even in practise...

It's all about the "drive factor" with these high end kids...Hogs and Podz...both have that...so it is just a question of when (not if) they become NHL regulars and which line they top out at...

Edit;;;I wanted Seider bad that draft...months before the draft I was thinking we could trade down and get him in 20"s or so of the first round...but he kept climbing the ranks due to his play at the worlds...he is going to be an impact player and maybe even this year...I see no reason Hog's won't be right behind him...maybe a year behind...he is a year younger...or so....

  8. Podz looks like what we hoped Jake would be...a hard nosed guy who drives the net through people if he can't get around them...and actually really tries to score...instead of just getting the puck on net and skating by hoping it went in...

Jake could learn from him...I hope he is over here this season to help be tuff to play against...!

Cool your jets boys, I like his future for sure, but keep in mind Adam Tabellini has the same number of points on Rogle and the defenseman Moritz Seider,  a defenseman,  but the same age, is 1 point back

Seider is a top 10 pick and a hell of a player...he could play in the NHL this year no problem....

I'm looking forward to the 2021 Draft, wasn't into it this year as Benning traded the 1st and 2nd. But next year they should be in the thick of things Draft-wise, probably Top 10 pick. After losing their MVP goalie, and character players in Tanev and Stecher, and also losing players to free agency, the Canucks might not be great next season. Other teams in the new Canadian division (if that becomes a thing) have improved. I'll be paying more attention to the undrafted prospects this year.

Schmidt is better than Tanev on O. and doesn't get hurt as much....Rafferty and Juolevi could well do better than Stecher and Fantenburg....

Big Mac is really an add too the top 9 and we didn't really have Toffoli in our playoff run anyway...

EP and QH will be better ...and that alone adds up to more than anything we lost for forwards....

In goal we have a young stud and a great vet.    .....that could well do better than Marky and his backup...

We make the playoffs next year as welll....!

    Just watch.....!

  11. Bobby Orr is now dead to me....and it is obvious he has suffered severe brain damage....supporting a candidate who has lied 10,000 times and wants to send the world into chaos....!

Was the best D. ever....now the dumbest darkest idiot on the planet next to the idiot he is supporting....!

Yes but what does he have to trade or give up? I dont get how everyine thinks we just can trade. Trade what? More prospects to leave our cupboard even more bare. There really is no direction with this franchise and I feel it starts at the top with the aqullinis. We cant keep trading our picks away for mediocre help now. I honestly just want a sound hockey mind to come in and be GM. We need leadership at the top who have a direct plan and not move all over the place. Benning is not that guy.

At this point I don't what he can do to make this right....but trading Erikkson to a team that needs to meet the salary cap floor, by adding a 3rd round pick or Lind ...for either a bag of pucks or a borderline NHL'er would be a start....
