  1. . I'll acknowledge their record was decent before but partly because they had lots of soft competition that didn't take a toll on them How has their record been standing up over the last 3 years? Stable? Improving? How are they faring playing in a tougher division?
  2. I agree but could live with the arrogance if he had a reasons to be that way. Oldnews' clever list of unexpected happenings, could be put together for virtually every other GM in this league as well. Pittsburgh has had brutal injury experience the last 2 years but have been able to play respectable hockey. They and SJS have more injured than the Nucks right now and seem to still be competitive. This team has had no more difficult path than most teams in the NHL in the past 4 years and has, until this year, had the advantage of playing in the weakest division. Despite that, they have dropped from a contender to currently having won 4 of their last 17 games and are likely out of the playoffs. Gillis is the man at the helm and has been the architect of what this team has become. Point fingers anywhere you want but this is a results business and Gillis has failed miserably to read the signs, and make the moves to stay competitive. He bought himself some time by laying the failings on AV but that has only exposed more clearly that the problem is higher up the food chain.
  3. Every team deals with injured players players, every team deals with the officiating and league, every team deals with what the other teams are doing. Bottom line, this team has gone from a SCF finalist to a team that is likely to miss the playoffs. A team with no chemistry, deteriorating performance and a mixed bag of under-performing core players none of which can be moved, most having recently been signed to new, lucrative, NTC contracts. Then there's the gong show that was Luongo and the blaming Cody Hodgson publicly. Like Gillis or not, one has to wonder how long Aquilini, a successful businessman will tolerate what the hockey world is starting to view as gross incompetence.
  4. Sammuelsson was more of an example of what was missing and not replaced for his sniping ability than the man himself. I agree he had to go. At the very least though, Gillis shad to replace his offensive contribution with someone with similar abilities. He has not. IN a league where winning or losing is only a goal, the lost production from those two or players with their skill/chemistry is a huge loss.
  5. AS others have said, after 2011, this team was a piece or two away from continuing to contend for years. Instead of adding those pieces, he chose to dismantle the make-up of the team and focus on building a team more along the lines of Boston. He failed to realize the importance from an offensive perspective of Ehrhoff and Sammuelsson. Neither were perfect but Ehrhoff was a PM d-man who had fantastic chemistry with the Sedins...that has never been replaced. Samuelsson was a sniper, again something that has not been replaced. If Gillis really wanted to become more like Boston, he had to go full rebuild and move the twins. Instead he has nibbled at the edges, adding pieces to the supporting cast that while leaving the core untouched and without the support they have needed since 2011. This team is marginally tougher than the team from 2011 but nowhere near as talented or dangerous. Gillis has a hybrid that has no identity and no chemistry. The results on the ice should not come as a surprise. After this many years, what you see is the team Gillis built. There are no excuses considering the time he has had to mold this team. unfortunately, it appears he is the only one that doesn't see this and refuses to accept blame or make the necessary moves to address his past blunders.

  8. Those sure are Vezina numbers alright. Really helps your argument. Believe whatever you want. Listen to the platitudes, I guess you expected Daniel to say "LU cost us another one"?! I see you choose to ignore Torts' comment from Boston how "we need a save from Lu"?! You post awful numbers and then defend Lu as playing well quoting sources that support your belief while ignoring others. Whatever makes you happy.
  9. I honestly don't care much about the stats. What I see in Lu is a goalie who is struggling to see the puck and who's lateral movement and mobility are poor. Having said that, when the sv% is in the .89 or lower for 6 straight games, to say he is playing well is being deliberately obtuse. BTW - Don Taylor kept saying how good Lu was but Valk sure looked awkward with him saying that. Those details I notice. A few good saves does not a good performance make. And for the record, my opinion is mine and if you don[t agree fine.
  10. GAA is a team stat, SV % is an indication of the goalie. Go ahead and worship the guy if you want but his movement and focus is off and has been for awhile. HE's struggling just like the rest of the team is. He's doing nothing to help them out of it. WHy some of you refuse to lay any blame on Lu or see that he is playing below average at times is just astounding.
  11. you're a Lu apologist. 6 games in a row with a sv % below .89 what about that don't you understand?
  12. Diaz has really helped with puck movement. He's either very good at it or just shows how bad the rest of our D are. Good energy tonight but absolutely no finish Lu, not nearly good enough...again...6 games where his sv % is below ,89%.,
  13. His lateral movement is light years ahead of Lu He can go side to side and stay upright which he has done tonight and did to stop Edler earlier. Lu is falling forward as he comes across and is unable to cove much of the net at all
  14. Even a half assed offence would take some pressure off the D but this has to be the most inept offensive team ever constructed.
  15. No one appreciates a plug more than another plug
  16. Sad, Team has been putting in the effort but no finish, Lu not good enough oh well
  17. Good save and a goal. Its a brave new world.
  18. the way he's playing he'll just be a tourist. At least he'll come back rested
  19. Even when they lost with Lack he was outstanding and that's the difference. Lu sucks right now. His stats confirm it. He's not giving the team to chance win. WHy keep playing him expecting something magical to happen?
  20. Same defence Lack plays behind. Don't buy that. LU's movement has been awful. He hasn[t earned the net and the fact Torts keeps putting him in there expecting him to help this team is pathetic. Lack has earned the tight to be in net but of course, this is the Nucks so seniority is everything.
  21. He's not the only problem for sure but a team that is struggling to score needs a save to keep them in it. Lu is not that guy right now, Maybe he's still injured but he looks brutal in his last 5 games, soon to be 6. If he's "off" say so and sit on the bench. These are important points for a struggling team and he's a big part of the downfall
  22. Lu's just not seeing the puck. it happens but the team is playing a horrible price while he tries to find his game
