I agree with you on Linden. That said I can pull up archived posts from the 90s where fans were complaining about Lindens lack of fight back and toughness- believe it or not. I think a team doesn’t do well leaders have a target put on their back and everything gets put under a microscope. Bo probably was given the c prematurely. I bet that the team would still be in the same spot it is today no matter who the captain was/is. This is a deficient roster. I know we have exchanged some harsh words but I do agree with some of what you say. I disagree with how heavily you weigh the c in a team’s success and that the c needs to be a fighter / intimidator.

I think that if all the players in the room respect each other there will be a Leadership group that forms no matter who wears the c. I do not know if Bo was respected in the room by all.. maybe he wasn’t. I think you are weighing the role of the C a little too heavily. You have watched hockey for a long time.. suppose Lumme was the C in 94. Wouldn’t that team still performed and would Linden stepped up any less? Again Vegas is a successful franchise. They did not have a C until they got Mark Stone.

Are you arguing with yourself? One issue I have - which seems to have categorized me as a Bo defender - is the value of giving a player the “c”. It’s mostly a symbolic gesture imho. Highly motivated athletes, who are elite enough to make it to the nhl, don’t really need a guy wearing a cloth letter to motivate them or intimidate them into performing. how do you rationalize teams like Vegas starting off their franchises with no captains named? If the c was such a huge thing why would that management team put their franchise in an inferior position right out of the gate by not naming a captain? Vegas made it to the finals with no captain. Seattle made it to the playoffs with no captain. The two most successful expansion teams had/have no captain. Do you know something those teams managers don’t?

He tied for fourth in goal scoring in the nhl playoffs that year while playing less games than those in front of him. keep telling yourself that is a ghost.

I recall you stating that Lammikko could replace Bo… a nothingburger bottom 6 player replacing the 15th placed goal scoring C since 2017. Horvat has flaws, don’t lump me into the imaginary “defender of Bo’s honour” category that the resident repressed high schooler has created. My position is that the atrocious d core( outside of QH that is) , lack of grit on the wings and no legit shutdown 3c are the root causes of where this club is more than anything Bo Horvat has done or not done. A disproportionate amount of the blame is being put on the ex captain in this case as the “C” on a player is largely a symbolic token. Even if Miller or EP or Schenn were the captain this team would still be where it is today with this roster.

A large part of the problem was one of the worst goaltending duo’s in the league and a coach that is known to lack defensive structure. Even Rutherford pointed this out. If Bo was still here do you really think their record would be much different than it has been with demko in net and tocchet as a coach? i have said this a number of times, Bo was not perfect, he has weaknesses- he is not a 50 goal scorer, he’s not an 8.5 million dollar player.. but I’m not going to sit here and agree that he was a big part of why this team has been bottom of the barrel for a long time. It’s hard to compete with your Scotty Bowman level of hockey genius Kennard. Martin and his .8xx save percentage, and a coach without a defensive system had less to do with blowing leads. It was Bo and his overwhelming negative influence on the other leaders that was one of the root causes of the horrible start. The other great leaders were suppressed and only realized their potential now that Demko is back and Tocchet is imposing some defensive strategy. you need to develop a thicker skin btw. Didn’t he finish tied for fourth in the league for goal scoring in the 2020 playoffs? And he played fewer series/games than those ahead of him. I guess that’s not stepping up? He should have finished first? Bo Horvat had many flaws in his game, he was not worth 8.5 million - this contract is the product of him having all the leverage on Lou, and he wasn’t the best captain in team history.. but the bitterness here is jaded girlfriend that just got dumped caliber. I’m rooting for Brock to turn things around. He’s taken a step forward under Tocchet imho. Looks more engaged. tocchet should get some recognition too. Team has more bite and is actually defending better.
