Thanks - a breath of fresh air when it's not the same 3 guys trolling here.

Unfortunately, it really looks like Ian Clark is out the door. There was a tweet saying that they are acting as if he isn't coming back.

Well he hasn't been resigned and there's been no leak of an extension yet, so I could see twitter universe leaning towards that right now, but I would wait until the off season and see first, before believing that tweet especially for my blood level

  2. It's actually a well written post, pretty much nailed everything in general, I'm actually glad you brought up the Bonino one that one always bugged me, Bonino was definitely the better player for half the price it never made sense to me.

I brought this up in GDT last night, but the other day was thinking of Markstrom, and how this team acquired him in a trade originally, waived him a couple times, but stuck with him until Clark turned him into #1, but you invest that much time into a goalie who was not a #1 and now is #1 and then you just let him walk? Why waste all that time to invest in him and turn him into a good trade piece to just let him walk... That's poor asset management.

I've been a little more critical of Benning in the last year, but also said I'd let him finish off his last year on his contract, but if they don't resign Clark and let him go, then I'll probably lose it and demand Benning is gone before his contract is up.

  3. So I was just thinking about the whole Markstrom thing from the beginning to the end, and I've come to the conclusion what was the point of even having him actually.....

He was involved in the Luongo trade, I believe he was waived twice, but they stuck with him and with the help of Clark turned him into a legit #1, but then he just walked and got nothing from having him and turning him into a #1, that just seems horrible and a waste of a good asset....

  4. The two things I have noticed with WD and TG they both were hesitant in playing rookies and if they did they would be on a tight leash. They just felt more comfortable playing vets over rookies, and I get that because as a coach you're coaching to win and will always lean towards a vet because you can trust them more, but when the team you're coaching is rebuilding and the game is evolving more to youth and speed, but you're still stuck in the game from the past, it's a bad mix from the get go. Even with Brock TG was hesitant to start him in his rookie year sat him for the 2 first games, tried using some excuse that Brock was just tired and needed more rest, what rookie needs more rest before having his dreams come true to play a NHL game, face it TG thought he wasn't ready yet. He's an old school type of coach but the game has evolved and changed from his times, it's more about youth and trusting them to improve, instead of keeping them on a tight lease and punishing them when they do something bad or a mistake. WD and Green were very similar, and their systems aren't strong enough to rely on vets to carry their systems even if they believe they're the safer option over rookies.

One coach who was ahead of their time especially for trusting their yourh and seeing the potential that they had, and didn't punish them if they made 1 little mistake, was good old Marc Crawford. Now I'm not saying he's the answer anymore, but I wouldn't be against him again tbh, because he has been in the league the last few years again so he knows what needs to be done and he's good at seeing potential in players, but even a coach more similar to how Marc used to coach over how WD and TG coach.

Lol my bad. I completely agree with that sentiment in terms of not bringing him back next year. I got roasted a few months ago in the Rathbone thread for saying we should walk away from Edler after this year and go with a left side of Hughes, Rathbone and Juolevi.

I love Edler and everything he has done for this team and I really hope he gets that 100th before the season ends but I really do think the team needs to move on after this year.

All good, it was my mistake, you had all the right to flame me , it would be stupid to bench Edler now when the games don't matter when he only needs that 1 more goal for a 100th, now if the games mattered and it was for a playoff spot I may have a different opinion , but for now definitely let him play and finish out the season, but next year that's a different story.

Yes, let's blatantly disrespect one of the best defencemen the franchise has ever seen because it's going to be so incredibly detrimental to a couple of the young guys development if they miss a game or two that mean nothing to the standings.

Let's make sure we show the rest of the league how we s#!t on vets who give everything they have to our team so that no free agent will ever want to sign here and the young guys will know to make sure they walk away from the team as free agents as soon as possible.

    Good plan.

I miss read the quote yes he can play the rest of the season games

Corey Hirsch touched on how important it is that they do this.  That it would be a huge show of disrespect not to and that the room would likely be p o'd about it.

At this point in his career and how much he has declined, this is a horrible take on this situation, and people wonder why Vancouver has never won a cup, they would rather hang onto dead weight then try and ice or find a better player, just to not piss off the dressing room.... How about pissing off paying fans, do they not care about that?

Edit: My bad thought it was about resigning Edler for next year, not just for playing the next few games, my bad ignore

  8. Even Don Cherry said after one of our games around the quarter or 1/3 mark of the season when they were doing really bad before the covid incident, that he thought the Canucks looked like they were playing to fire their coach, and I had the same reaction after that one game it reminded me of when Toronto played like crap on a Saturday to send a message to fire Babcock, the Canucks did the exact same thing.

Then big man Aquilini just had to butt in and tweet that everyone's jobs were safe, basically to stop anyone from talking about it for some reason.....

Also this might bug some but it's true, the Canucks best stretch of hockey this season and when they had a good streak going, was when EP got hurt, which was a head scratcher.
