^This is why I don't want Ehlers. Do you supporters want to put a 160lb boy against the Ducks, Sharks and Kings all season long?

    Are you insane!?!

If you love him, set him free. Let him slide on over to the east where's he's far less likely to be killed.

You're implying that he'll never grow. Doesn't matter who you are, if someone comes at you at that velocity, you'll feel the effects of it. I'm not rooting for the Canucks to draft this kid but you're completely overlooking his skills and potential.

  2. Question: How much of a player's salary are we allowed to retain? And how many contracts can we retain?

I was just thinking for the Canucks or any other team looking to tank, they don't need any cap space so they can retain players' contracts to sweeten the deal and maximize the values

  3. LOL, reminds people of Pavel Bure.

shakes head. There will never be a player like Pavel Bure. Ehlers again, has Nikita Filatov written all over him. Highly skilled highly offensive speedy winger, was equally as good as Steven Stamkos and were is he now?

    There ya goes.

Filatov was simply not handled properly and he fled to Russia. If Ehlers comes here, we will hopefully treat him right and he won't go anywhere. It's wrong to compare somebody that plays or has played in the NHL. Every player is different and brings something different. He isn't Bure and will never be Bure but he has things to his game that Bure has and Bure has things in his game that Ehlers doesn't have

  4. I can appreciate that he is not the pick you want. I have read lots of posts from guys who want Vit or Ritchie and if you have to lower yourselves down from an 8 inch prong , you reach for Nylander.

However, I would like to insist that you tell the truth. There is little point in having a discussion if the participant making the post is constitutionally disingenuous for the sake of trying to invalidate a draftee he doesnt want.

    1) Ehlers does have Bures speed. Is it exactly as fast? I dont know. I do know is he is slightly faster than MacKinnon was. Nichuskin is not as fast as Ehlers. He is called the second fastest skater in the CHL. I suspect Druion is first. They did not say.

Ehlers is very strong on the puck. He cuts the the middle and fights very tenaciously along the boards. He also does not play with Druion. Like all teams, they will of course play together during the power play and if they pull their goalie etc.....

His stock was low because nobody knew anything about him. What most people do not remember is that he played in Denmark before this year. This was his first CHL season. He also plays on the same team as Druion so again the scouts had to take it with a grain of salt.

As the year progressed his stock has done nothing but skyrocket. He may have finished 13th but lets be honest. His stock will keep rising and we have 2 months before the draft. Many predict he will be a top 10 pick definitely. I think 6th is where he will go. I hope so anyways.

He was 5ft 11 at age 17 when he first arrived from Denmark. He was 162. According to reports he is now 5 ft 11.5 and 170lbs.

MacKinnon is 6ft and plays at 180. Nobody calls him small. By age 20 he will be 6ft and 185.

Its fine if you dont want the guy at 6, but lets not just spin the negative and assume things that just arent true. That resolves nothing.

I am rooting for Ritchie and I like him more than any of the other realistic options we have. However, I agree with you. He has the potential to be magnificent. He is only getting bigger and he is only getting better. He is having a playoffs like no other and the things people say about him couldn't be further from the truth. If developed well, he will be amazing. His speed and skill is something that can be worth tons

  5. From.The.Point asked if any of the players discussed as possible Canuck first round draft picks could step in right away.

I know you are tired of hearing about him but, Ritchie may be able to do that.

He has the size, strength, speed, and toughness to hold his own albeit in a limited role, imo.

I can envision a fourth line like Sestito Matthias and Ritchie.

Sometimes up on the third with Higgins and Richardson, and occasionally powering up the second line with Booth and Kesler.

And everybody gets sometime with the twins as we continue the search for that long sought-after RW for the Sedins?

By the way, Virtanen has extra value in the ratings because he is only 17, but the consensus is that he will probably take 2 or 3 years before he is ready for the Bigs.

Ritchie will most likely be ready sooner if not right away, so Virtanen's lower age advantage is countered by the shorter time it will probably take to get Ritchie into service.

Thanks for your opinions on Draisaitl over Ritchie and Dal Colle over Ritchie.

Who would you pick if both Draisaitl and Dal Colle were available at our #6 pick?

    ***********************

Also, does anyone think Draisaitl, being from Germany, is in any way a detrimental thing to be accounted for between he and Dal Colle?

For example, can young European players have the same over-the-top, almost-insane, win-the-Cup-at-all-costs, "Next goal wins the Stanley Cup" attitude Canadians grew up with?

Is there an element, like with Ehrhoff staying out of post-whistle scrums in our SCF vs Boston, where they do not "get it"?

Especially as the players are not paid (well, not as much) for games in the playoffs, where the going gets extremely tough, where perhaps they are not as focused on the big prize as Canadian players who have known the Stanley Cup as Hockey's Holy Grail all their lives and longed to score that GWG in overtime that wins the Cup?

Players that are more in it for the money might underperform when more is expected of them for far less pay.

If this over-arching desire to win the Cup at all costs can be instilled in a foreign player, how long might it take, and how would one go about it?

I think we all want to see our draft pick make an impact and play right away but putting a 6th overall on the 4th line is the worst thing you can do

  6. this isnt sumo wrestling. if he is the real deal complete package then fine. but we cant sacrifice skill for size. ymthe object of the game ia still to score goals. not the ability to pick players up and throw them elsewhere.

If he scores by cutting to the net, size will help a lot and I was merely pointing out that he has the size to do so. He has the skill, he has a good shot and good vision

  7. I watched some Ritchie vids and he has good hands and uses his size well. I have a few concerns: he doesn't appear to have great speed and I'm concerned whether he will be able to drive to the net at will when he's playing against big NHL defenceman. But that's just an opinion based on a few videos.

He's already 230 lbs so he can dance with the best of em

    • Nicholas Ritchie = Taylor Pyatt

Ritchie is already bigger than Pyatt. Pyatt is big but isn't really physical. From what I've seen, Ritchie is real physical. Pyatt has an inaccurate shot while Ritchie seems to find the sweet spots. Ritchie also has better vision. I don't know about skating since I haven't seen Pyatt play in a few years

  8. For some reason I would take Ritchie over Dal Colle and Draisaitl. Probably because I know him more than the other 2. Can somebody give me some insight and a full analysis on Dal Colle and Draisaitl? Sorry I'm too lazy to dig around

  9. I know their play is what matters, but do you guys really want a kid who looks like Ritchie on the Canucks? The guy's like a 7 on the Sopel-Scale.

He just needs to keep a clean look. Hope he doesn't pick up any tips from Kassian regarding grooming
