I still think they should try and convert Edler to a forward. Less defensive responsibility, and he can just focus on scoring. If San Jose can do it with Burns, what is it going to hurt the last 4 games?
That's actually a really good idea

"buying out one Sedin is a slap to his face"
Being the worst number one forward in the history of this godforsaken franchise is a slap to everyone's face. All the crap years we've had as a team, we've always managed to have at least one forward with 50 points.
The Sedins will be the first ones to fail to achieve this. This is not an unreasonable expectation. They haven't even met that low bar.
They have made themselves buyout targets by their terrible play the last 4 months. If they are offended by that thought then they should have played better. Again, this isn't a recent problem, either. It was a problem with them last year that carried over to this year.
Gillis has options to move the Sedins for picks, and that includes buying one out and eating salary on the other. I would rather they ate salary to swing the deal for the pick, because they aren't going to be tight against the cap next year, and can use that money to sign productive players.
It's a slap in the face because one is bought out while the other still has a contract. That makes zero sense. I was never their biggest fans but I respect what they have done.
What you don't understand is that it's near impossible to move them.
1. NTC, they aren't going to move. This has been their home. They love the city and they love it. They also do so much charity work. There is no way they will waive, especially to Buffalo...
2. Nobody is willing to pay $14 million for 2 players on decline. If you don't want them, what makes you think a GM would want them? They're not stupid. Even if we retain salary, few, few teams would be interested. And if we retain so much salary, what good would that do us? We still have to retain a bit of Lu's salary for the next million years. And even if the sedins cost $2 million, we aren't getting any decent draft picks. Especially not top 10 picks you're looking for.
Have some respect for these guys. They're not pawns. And all of the things you're proposing aren't realistic

Dragonfruits I want to say this with utmost respect and I don't want you to take offense but I disagree with everything you say xD
Ahh beauty of message boards

"Salaries too expensive"
Gillis still has the one buyout available to him. He could trade the Sedins for picks and agree to take on some of the salary. It's all about the numbers. Canucks need room to bring up the younger guys.
buying out one sedin is a slap to his face. If they were to retain the salary, they would have to retain 7 million for any team to even be remotely interested. Even then, the possibility of the sedins waiving their NTCs are close to 0. Even if all those things fall in place, there is no way a team would give picks to us.

"Sedins aren't going anywhere"
Then nothing they do in the offseason will matter.
Trading Bobby Lou made the team worse. Trading the Sedins will improve the team. Extension or no- that was at the start of the year. That was then - this is now.
If the sedins want to leave for whatever reason, nobody would want them. They cost $14 million and are on a steep decline

Torts is going with the goalie that has shown the ability to win games he knows nothing about Markstrom probably won't see him until they are mathematically eliminated which i think is after a NYR win
Torts doesn't know "nothing" about Markstrom. He shows up to work every practice and he's played in the NHL before. We all know what he's capable if developed properly

I would trade Bieksa in a heartbeat. Yes, he has been injured and banged up but he is a defensive liability out there. Notice when they show the other team scoring where he always is--out of position and trying to stick check guys. Same goes for Garrison. For Pete's sake knock someone on their butt! The only two defencemen I would keep around are Hamhuis and Tanev. Everyone else is fair trade bait.
Bieksa is a heart and soul leader who sticks up for his teammates. We could use more of those
-
He isn't really hurting the team, but he isn't contributing much either. For the money he makes, we could have somebody better. He's from white rock though so he gets a free pass

When Luongo was still here:
"choker, he can't carry us in playoffs"
"inconsistent, haven't been the same since groin injury"
#trade him for a bag of pucks"
After luongo is traded: "wah wah wah he was the best goalie in canucks history"

Not an expert on goaltending but not sure why Lack opened up there.
Forgive me if I'm wrong

WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT

Garrison's skating style looks weird. It looks like each stride he takes makes no progress and it just looks like he's slipping

If we do any better than 9-1 I'll consider it a win

Ehlers is great but the risk on him is pretty great. I like perlini and virtanen.
