Lakers willing to give Pelicans cap relief for Anthony Davis by taking Solomon Hill for Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ingram, Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Beasley, 2 1st round picks.

That is a serious offer and I don't even like the Lakers prospects. It also looks like Davis and his agent are really trying their hardest to swing this away from Boston without tampering lol

  2. I think the Knicks are interesting. Despite them getting blasted for the KP trade (a man I honestly think is an entitled diva) they could enter next season as contenders. GS has been considering the negatives of breaking up the splash brothers. When Klay missed the game again the 76ers, Curry was 10-18 from 3 and the rest of the team including Durant was 1-20 from 3 as they lost to a team that really didn't see great efforts from all their stars.

Is Durant ends up out even if because he was less of a priority he could want his own team and end up in NY. If that happens they suddenly have a lot of assets. Contending for the #1 pick this year plus the Mavs pick over 2 years a team that is a lottery team now and KP likely not returning this year. They have crazy good assets and could emerge to make a serious play for AD in the offseason as well as the big FA splash.

I would honestly be surprised if the Vancouver Canucks are even a thing in 50 years. Not only are most pro sports teams not very popular outside of their immediate jurisdiction, but the very medium they rely so heavily on for their money (cable TV) is dying so quickly that I'm wondering how pro sports will sustain their current level of outrageous costs of operation once the advertisement revenue dries up

I think it's kind of curious how the NFL started airing games on twitch recently - not exactly surprisingly though, since ESPN has been on the brink of bankruptcy for a few years now. Only a matter of time before it goes under, and the NFL and co. will have to find a new way to target an audience. I highly doubt streaming on twitch brought in any new fans, mind you

I get why someone wouldn't like "e-sports" or whatever, it's a total cultural thing. But it's going nowhere but up, whereas traditional sports are going nowhere but down (except the NBA and a couple of soccer leagues, which are anomalies in that they show global/cultural growth, even today)

I'm above your listed demographic (in my 30s), but I grew up playing games competitively in the early days, so I'm definitely not new to this. But even with that said, I can EASILY say I had more fun at the Dota 2 International in Vancouver last summer than I've ever had at a traditional sporting event - it's just such a different culture, and a significantly better one, at that, for my money. Less about boozy aggressive men shouting at 20 year old athletes, and more about a community, in a weird way.

I'm curious about whether making teams city-based will make a good foundation for a market though. What reason do I have for liking this team? It just seems like corporate overhead, branding. The real selling point for e-sports, imo, is the individuality - the ability to differentiate players/playstyles/personalities. This is something most pro sports teams cannot do at all. I will always like a good twitch personality before I like some corporate branding which is meant to appeal to me just because of geography

I actually think making the teams city based was extremely smart marketing. I mentioned this before but the Fusion owned by Comcast get marketing as a team through the major Philly sports scene. The Flyers who share their colors with the team place the Fusion logo along the rink space and their was a banner hanging on the Wells Fargo center by I-95 that printed the Fusion logo with the other Philly major sports teams by it.

They also have viewing parties at Xfinity live which is the large sports bar complex by the stadiums in Philadelphia that is the hot spot for Philly sports outside of the stadium.

The city brand lets them really market the product to a large amount of people beyond just gamers and those who support a team because of it's overlap. I had a friend who loves all Philly sports and only rooted for them after I mentioned watching because I said the game was Philly vs Boston which has it's own passion between the cities. If I take her the game was FaZe clan vs Cloud9 we both know she wouldn't have cared even slightly lol.

In addition I don't think it harms individuality in a the sport. The players are all heavily marketed, they earn reputations among the league for example I will use Philly again. Philly's off tank became the standard reference for huge Dva bomb kills often referenced as Poko bombs even in games he was not in. Neptuno became known as the the most dangerous battle Mercy in the game for his kills on the heavy support based character. Fragi literally became a crowd favorite despite being known for feeding and being too reckless because his style was so unique.

Twitch is also ultra interactive unlike your main sports all these players play on Twitch where people can interact with them as they play or do whatever they want. You can also play they game yourself on ladder and run into these players in casual modes or if you get high enough rank or simply by subscribing to their channels and playing in their pick up game lobbies for subs they host occasionally. I think the city base only helps players brands.

I also mentioned this was well before. While it doesn't top all NHL games Overwatch was getting around 180k viewers for its games on twitch which is more than most regular hockey games and even higher than some of the lower tier Stanley cup finals hockey games in past years. While more people don't know about it than hockey teams it's still showing a strong crowd.

As for the Vancouver Titans being a thing in 50 years that would be shocking lol. The market works much differently and it would be crazy if OW kept a market that long. One thing about videogames is how long they control the market. Games can stick with a pro scene for over a decade but people will shift to better made games as they come out as do many pro players. But I do expect the market to only grow and city based teams to become more and more common for stretches.

I feel community and teamwork are more stressed in games because everyone is limited/balanced to the same kids to complete an objective. Regular sports while having the same fundamental objectives and kits to achieve them have the variable of everyone playing having a different balance to their kit and ability to maximize their objectives based on their physical ability. At the pro level it floats into coaching with how to handle what your players strengths and weaknesses to stop various superior talents but at lower tiers its often just being at the mercy of those who are more physically gifted. With games you can just focus on playing strategy with a balanced scale to plan.

  4. I couldn't tell you how many times I have driven my car drunk or high too. The first time I did it it was late AMs and I took the risk of since it was in the quite forest suburban area literally following 1 road for a few miles past 1 traffic light that I knew like the back of my hand. It was a 1 lane road with no sidewalk and you usually don't see any other vehicles on the road. I also drove a convertible and would put the top down so the wind would hit my face and their was limited chance of any smell sticking to me or the car in case I did get pulled over (which has never happened). I got confident because I felt I focused way more on driving like a model citizen than when I am sober. Hands at 10 and 2, perfect speed to the limit, and I focus on the road and street signs which I have memorized lol. Though at this point when I go out to drink I usually just use Uber or crash on a friends couch or guest room. I hate driving in general. I usually barely pass 1000 miles driven per year now

Dang....you know you're old when people accuse you of this.:P

The first part of what you quoted is really the relevant part. Most people who gave an opinion in this thread were people who were triggered at the very idea of video games being associated as sports. Yet not a single person who was triggered knew a thing about the game and how it follows the exact same format as a sport. Their is a reason one is called sport and the other is called Esport. The fundamental approach to it is exactly the same. Their is a reason the ultra athlete at your local gym can't just walk into pro sports league.

  6. I became a Whiskey man in Tokyo since Nikka and Suntory were everywhere and it was so smooth to me. Then I went to Thailand and bought Whiskey from a 12 year old who was helping her mom run the shop and it tasted like paint thinner. I drank it all though. Can't even remember the brand.

I honestly wouldn't put much stock into it. It's weak journalism when you throw some big theory out and it's back up by using the term source. On top of that it's a source close to the Celtics? Not even Kyrie himself, why would Kyrie leak that to the Celtics organization? On on top of that it's bleacher report... I am shocked people still haven't realized 95% of sports journalism is tabloid gossip level content.

  8. After this I gotta pull for the Rams

But I have no issue with Brady and the Patriots and think it would be cool to see him win another. No one wins every year and he is the GOAT because no matter what the Meta is he can play to it if not set it. To not respect and admire what he does on the field is to be blinded by personal emotion.

  9. Kupp is hardly a new development he only played 8 games this season and the offense average wise was scoring just as much with him out. We will see how Gurley looks but that also doesn't look like a big deal ether. He was a full participant at the last practice and is off the injury report. Cowboys defense is great but their offense isn't exactly a beacon of consistency. I think it's a good match up but I don't see it as slanted in the Cowboys favor. Personally I would prefer the Cowboys win but I don't see the advantage some people seem to think they have.

La isnt much of a homefield advantage for the rams. Chances are the coliseum is gonna be full of cowboys fans. I would pick the boys in this one.

May only be relevant to Goff. His home/away splits are night and day. 22TDs/3INTs and 2737 yards at home to 10TDs/9INTs and 1951 yards on the road.

How do you beat pressure? Get rid of the ball quick. Who's the best at getting rid of the ball quick? Brady.

Statistically Brady is actually 7th in the NFL and was 24th last season and 15th in 2016 ;)

Though he usually has time to throw given his O-line has been pretty solid through his career. Some QBs just get rid of it quickly because they have no time.

So after the bears kicker missed, why on earth did he point to the heavens as if he made it?

He also joined players from both teams after the game for prayer on the field before he left. Some players don't just thank God for show.

I don't like the Eagles chances in New Orleans even if they find a way to upset the Bears.

Too much firepower for New Orleans. Last time Eagles played then they got spanked.

The Bears are 7-1 at home and have a top 3 d in the entire NFL and they are the best when it comes to forcing turnovers.

Offensively they are like the Cowboys they want to run the ball with Howard and Cohen run clock and control the T.O.P. and keep their d fresh.

Eagles have to shut down the run and force Trubisky to stay in the pocket to have a chance.

Bears are the biggest favorites -6 on the betting lines on wild card weekend.

The Bears matchup very well with the Eagles, they wanted to play them.

Make no mistake, if they wanted the Vikings they wouldn't have tried as hard to win and played the backups.

This Eagles d is not as good or as deep as last year plus they have no running game to speak of with Ajayi and Clement out.

Mike Wallace, if he can play this week would be a deep threat decoy and open up space for Ertz and Tate and Agholor to work the middle of the field.

I am not overly optimistic on the Eagles chances but I could see them upsetting both teams.

Trubisky has been strong this year but it is still his 1st ever playoff game and he ended the year looking pretty average. They have been a team that has looked rough at times as well stealing a few wins on the back of the defense (Niners, Cardinals, etc.) and still losing games to the Giants (No Trubisky) and the Dolphins. Not a crazy hard schedule as well as they got to face the AFC East (Patriots, Bills, Dolphins, Jets) and only got the Buccs from the NFC South. Don't get me wrong a very good team but they seem to show a lot of cracks to me.

Saints are a much bigger threat IMO.

I am not sure I buy your theory of the Bears wanted to play Philly as opposed to the Vikings. Eagles have been hot and the Vikings have been shaky with a QB who has a record of 4-25 against teams over .500. They were about to sweep the Vikings and Kirk was playing as bad as he has in his entire career. I think the Bears didn't care who they faced and just wanted to win the game.

  14. As someone who hated the game and stopped playing for around a year I went back to it and felt the game has been moving in a much better direction. It's still flawed and isn't a game I feel the urge to sink most of my gaming time into but I enjoy getting on it every now and then for a change of pace.
