  1. These scab refs are awful, and making nearly every game unwatchable
  2. It was a sarcastic tweet. After the Portland game he ran into a bunch of 'Caps fans at a bar, sat with them, and paid the bill http://www.tmz.com/2012/09/01/mls-captain-jay-demerit-foots-bill-for-fans/ Rival fans were tweeting him, sarcastically about how much he loves Vancouver, and he was just playing off of it.
  3. By some grace of god, the 'Caps still hold a 4 point lead over FC Dallas and a game in hand. Chivas is 9 points back with 3 games in hand, but have lost more recently than the caps. Worst case scenario the 'Caps lose to FC Dallas in 2 weeks, and have a 1 point lead, with a game in hand in final 5 games(4 would be at home, and 'Caps only have 2 home losses all year).
  4. eck, original was 5 years. Leases can be broken though. Almost every team that has ever relocated had to break their lease. And it is easier to out of them when the said stadium is owned by the city or government. Canucks broke their lease from PC to move downtown, I am sure the same can be done.
  5. Montreal's owners (The Supputo family) are very wealthy. Top 10 in Canada I believe. They used their own money to build a stadium, and then upgrade it this year. Our owners are very wealthy as well. 2 of our owners are billionaire's, Our owners even offered to privately build a soccer stadium in Gastown, but 20% of the residents gained enough attention from corrupt politicians to get it blocked. They are still looking to build one, but doing so quietly. Their lease with BC Place was relatively short(5 years). For comparison sakes, most teams are forced to sign 20 year leases when they move into a new facility. Back to topic, it seems at the present time, our owners are simply only giving enough money to compete, until a stadium is obtained. Whitecaps are right in the middle of the league when it comes to team salaries. We only use 2/3 DP spots at the moment. TFC went after a well known player like Torsten Frings and he has just been awful. TFC has the 2nd highest salary in the league, and sits in 2nd last. RSL, and SJ have shown you can compete if you build your team properly. LA may spend a lot, and 2/3 DP's (Keane and Donovan)are still good enough to play in the EPL(and both have done so on loan agreements during MLS off-season), but they also have great residency program. In short we WILL eventually spend money, but owners are committing most time and money towards stadiums efforts as appose to winning a title right now.
  6. Winnipeg loses to the best team in the league last week at the last second, and fires their coach, after they have to play first 5 games on the road (ANY team would find that difficult). The Winnipeg GM has gone through more coaches in a 5 year span, than any other team has gone through in the last decade. Maybe he should look in the mirror?
  7. Robson and Kenny Miller are both well known internationally players. Miller is even the captain of Scotland. This team is better on paper, but coach Rennie did not take into account that team he blew up played a year and a half together developing chemistry.
  8. 1 shot in 4 games. Prior to Rennie blowing up the team to bring in two of his own countrymen, we were averaging 4/game. Hassli would average 2 on goal alone.
  9. The caps have a hard time involving their fans into games outside the south end(supporters section). An official team fight song would do that. I was in Salt Lake earlier this year, and watched an RSL game, and their fight song "Believe" is the catchiest thing, and the whole stadium sings it. RSL paid the drummer from Rancid to compose this song, so instead of a support group just stealing a song and changing its lyrics, it should be composed by a local.
  10. LA and Seattle look really good right now, although we're still in striking distance catching them seems less and less likely. If we make the playoffs it will probably be at the 5th seed (one game playoff, winner has a 2 game total goal series against #1 seed in west) and will probably be against LA, or Seattle. That game will be on the road. The Whitecaps HAVE to learn how to win on the road. Tied for 1st in MLS with only 2 home losses, but 2nd last in away wins.
  11. Le Toux and Richards have identical since switching teams, yet Le Toux is still under contract with NY next season. If we don't make the playoffs this season will have turned out to be a disaster. We blew up 3rd place team, to try to put together a contender and have won 2 games since (2 month span). Yes Robson, Miller, O'Brien, and Richards have all been upgrades from a technical stance, but the chemistry that took a year and 1/2 to build with Chiumento, Hassli, and Le Toux (yes I know he was added this year) was thrown out the window, and we have to start from scratch again. 6 weeks to the playoffs, with a 5 point lead over Dallas. Dallas plays LA tonight.
  12. lol a bit of attention, but not exactly front page news in NY.
  13. Yeah, they are just poor. Two games today had MAJOR reffing issues. Watch Dc/Philly game, and Port/NY to see. This clip is a perfect microcosm of MLS refs. It's from Portland/Red Bulls game, and is the only instance I have ever seen of a goal counting after a ref has blown the play dead.
  14. Beckham has physically grab a reg by his shirt once this year, and NOTHING happened. It was not violent, but rule states it's the same as kicking the ball at a ref. Either way 0 shots on target are awful. Kenny Miller has not been better than Hassli.
  15. Barry Robson suspended for the game 3 HOURS before kickoff for yelling at a ref. What kind of idiot thinks it's ok to suspend someone hours before the biggest game of the leagues year??! BTW Beckham has done far worse to a ref this year, and NOTHING has happened.
  16. If people were actually offended by swearing, the south side would be empty every game. Instead it has been sold out every game since existence(that specific area) and the least occupied area of BC Place is the family section(north end), where you can't even hear the Southsider chants. BS chants happen ALL the time at Canucks games, and unlike the Southsiders, you can hear that on TV. Whitecaps are top 5 in MLS attendance, it is clearly not hurting them. I will chant "We're Blue We're White..." even louder next game, and every time I see an Team employee, since they seem to be offended by a word, not directed at anyone.
  17. I tweeted him about it, and he told me to stop because the issue was "dealt with", the only thing is he was still talking about it on his show! I bring up actual facts, and he can't handle it. I guess sitting in the press box skews your views on the working class.
  18. SOOOO dumb that Team 1040 spent the entire day talking about swearing at 'Caps games. There is fights and streakers at EVERY Lions games, and I have never seen either of those at an MLS Caps game. Which is really worse to expose your kids to? A word that they can hear on TV, or that their friends bring up, or violence and nudity. I like the Lions, but on a Friday, when everyone is drinking, it is a far less hospitable place for a kid, than a Caps game.
  19. Too early to tell. Kenny Miller pretty much took his spot. If Miller does not end up producing, than yes it was a mistake.
  20. Brutal. Miller is getting paid a lot (more than Hassli) and does not even have a shot on net yet. I know he needs an "adjustment period" but there is simply not enough time for that. 9 games till the playoffs, with next 4 games on the road. Mattocks and Richards will be back next game, we really missed their speed tonight.
  21. Club is still new, and Southsiders aren't perfect. They will learn from their mistakes. Last year they left the giant flag up in the front row blocking peoples views, now they only wave it during goals, and take it down. On a side note, Andy O'Brien filled in great! Last year every time Jay D went down the club went back into the toilet. Not only did O'Brien step up and play well, Robson took command of the team. Last year no one would step up and be the leader the team needed (when Jay was injured).
  22. As long as it is not longer than a minute it's fine. At no point were most peoples view of the game, and big screen obstructed.
