  1. You know what...he could've easily had 18 goals for Utica. Watching his highlights, I'm hearing alot of PING sounds. He got his chances, took puck into the offensive zone, led rushes and got his shots off. This while playing with WacY Hamilton, Bancks, then getting a bit of chemistry with Valk. He sure looked better when a talented guy like Goldobin came along. Now when I see him dripping sweat and doing what he can to show up to camp ready to go...I'm going to be 100% optomistic. Guys here poke fun at him for doing inline skating....really? If this kid bags atleast 12g-15a, I'm going to be happy with that. He will improve upon that too
  2. Otherwise he could end up living in a van down by the river
  3. Jake was the guy we needed due to us being slapped around all year from the big bad teams in our division. Torts had said the same thing all year. I can't get into other details on Jake as we've beaten this horse long enough. We all agreed that sending him back to Junior was wrong and after a good camp we all cheered that he and McCann had made the team. Well I remember it seeming that since that after magical 9th eligible game for them 2 had passed, they both just kinda went down hill from there. Soon after that Christmas we all thought "well gee I guess they SHOULD have stayed in junior." I think that going forward, CHL draftees should spend a manditory 2 years after their draft in the CHL and we see examples of it working around the league. Thomas Chabot being a great example..remember when alot on here wanted him in '15 and it wouldn't have been a bad choice but as we know we got Boeser. We can debate the course Canucks would've put Nylander or Ehlers thru until we are blue in the face but we can't be sure they turn out like they are. You make good points tho.....thank you
  4. Gosh the guy even corrected me....he went SIX....not 5.... In a way I kinda find Buttons Mock drafts to be dependant upon which market station he is currently interviewing at the time. He simply listens to what the fans of the market want and posts it in his mock draft. Example....he hears vancouver really likes Virtanen, we'll that's who he predicts as our pick. Over in the Winnipeg station he predicts who he think they like. Again mock drafts are like throwing spaghetti at a wall and so are his draft rankings really. Although I tend to agree with his rankings, I generally stick to ISS top 30 or Central Scouting.
  5. He was the exact guy we needed to pick at that time. He had the skill and scoring ability of Ehlers and Nylander and could hit like Iginla and Brown and everyone agrees. The kid is only 20 and will arrive. Btw....how long did it take for Iginla and Brown to become factors in this league? Ppl need to quit ejaculating over the guys we didn't pick. Ya it would be cool to have them but chances are we rush them too early too and screw up their development
  6. Buttons rankings change from week to week. He did have him ranked at 41 and everyone here complained and mocked Button. I also remember 90% here fist pumping when Jake was selected so easy on the ankle snaps jumping off the wagons guys
  7. Again....Bottle of milk and protein bar....sweaty from workout... Does it matter if he is biking on seawall or competing in inline games? Atleast he is working, staying fit. Guys over at Abbotsford Chrysler love him. Buddy of mine in service dept. says you can't put anyore options in that Cherokee. Top motor, stereo,....u name it
  8. Ya that's what I was chuckling to myself about 2 blocks driving away from there. The way he looked tho....no belly or flab to him. Even if he did eat a corn dog, he would burn that off in his sleep. But ya as another poster suggested... start cutting the kid some slack. In a way I feel for the guy as its not as if HE asked to be picked #5. Scouts like Button had him around #40. Others had him between 10-15. If anything the ultimate pressure HAS to be on Benning. Imagine if Adam Gaudette got selected at 5? Guy would probably die from unrealistic scrutiny. Imagine how Patrick White felt when selected in the 1st round when scouts had him somewhere in the 4th round. I remember hearing TSN commentators flipping thru draft sheets looking for his name. Lol
  9. Not too sure where he works out but I was getting gas at 7-11 in Abbotsford and he was inside with a buddy of his. Both looked like they just finished working out. Jake had a bottle of milk and protein bar. His buddy had a bag of corn dogs and toquito''s. Jake looks fit and glad he is working. I acknowledged who he was and told him alot of ppl are rootin for him. He was polite, said thx. Alot of new tattoos too His new jeep Grand Cherokee sounded killer
  10. If we didn't and still picked in top 10, there are plenty of great talented picks at many positions Dahlin Svechnikov Tkachuk Wilde Velano Hughes To name a few
  11. I think the player in the late first that is going to make GM''s kick themselves (I call it "The Boeser" pick) Is Shane Bowers.... Had a great USHL year, matching point totals of higher ranked pick Tolvanen. Committed to Boston U. This kid is going to a great team already stacked with talent to play with (Tkachuk, Fabbro to name a few). He is 6' 195 now but could squeeze another inch and 5 pounds. Skates well and like Boeser, has fantastic hands. 2-3 years in NCAA will be great and he doesn't seem the type to pull a Vesey. His QMJHL team is Armada (same team as PL Dubois) and he is a Nova Scotia kid. Keep an eye on this one for sure.
  12. My point was that it takes different lengthe of time for players to truly become big factors. Some are faster than others but for the guy that takes a while longer, he will still be a great player. How long did it take for Andrew Ladd to become the point producer he was? Markus Naslund? Kesler? Horvat will be entering his prime years but first he must sustain an entire year of facing other teams best D and best shut down schemes. He was also drafted 4 years ago so this backs up my point. Another 2 years, he should be at his peak. That's 6 years
  13. Well when compared to the last top center drafted out of Portland (Johansen), Glass has blow him up in every statistical category while playing all the hard minutes. So there's that... People need to remember that not every player drafted makes an immediate impact. Johansen was drafted 7 years ago and although he was having his breakout year 3 seasons ago, hard not to notice he is definately "The Man" and is there to stay. Remember....it took Henrik 8yrs to become "The Man" after playing behind Morrison for so many years. Mittlestadt is atleast 2-3yrs in college and a year in the minors away from even getting onto this team......4 years. Vilardi is atleast 3 years away. Heck...Patrick would also be 2-3yrs from making an impact. For proper development, I would love to see Glass play 2 more years of junior and 1 full year in minors with call-ups. No need to rush the's guys like McCann and Virtanen were. Imagine if they had spent one more year in CHL? We wouldn't be having so many topics of discussion about them I think this is why the possibility of a guy like Spooner makes sense as to give Horvat proper support. I feel so bad for the guy he has to waste 2-3 precious/prime years playing for a non-contender.
  14. When Niklas Kronwall was drafted he was 5'10 and a buck 70. Ask Ryan Kesler who used to hate getting flattened by and Kronwall, now being 6' 195 will be at the top of the list. Duncan Keith was 5'11 185 playing for Kelowna Scott Neidermayer was 5'10 190 when playing for Kamloops Erik Karlsson 5'10 157 we can go on and on...... Kids grow and these 3 hot shot D will also eventually grow. Let them develop, don't rush them onto the team right away.....just be patient and these kids will mature, get bigger and stronger in the gym and work out just fine
  15. WOW, all that time and space on that big ice sure makes him look good. Can he ever skate as well. Looks like the Swedish Puck Bunny disease has finally worn off. Demonstrates great hands, loves to rip the puck and can thread passes. Probably could've had a few more points in that tourney. If you go back 20 pages, I'm a huge Rah-Rah guy for Cody Glass but thinking more and more, and watching the current D on display in these playoffs, there is a HUGE glaring need on our team for slick D like Makar, Liljegren and Heiskanan. Either way, I'm excited for C or a D. Heck, we could go into the draft and select 6 D and I would be ok with that. Poile has quietly gone about selecting a ton of D for many years and just let them develop. Cant wait till Fabbro arrives.
  16. Of course its a rumour put out there by both Heckstall and Shero. Heck, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't "throw out" rumours to gauge interest and see what they could fetch in return. Dreger would absolutely be the first person I would "leak" that info to. Colorado and us got kicked in the nuts at the lottery, of course they are going to dangle those opportunities to us. I hope to god that Benning doesn't bite and Linden is duct taped in a trunk so he cant sway Benning to trade up. Its like when Goldmember says...."Shave me from myshelf..." as he eats his skin.
  17. Folks here should really brace themselves for that CBJ pick to be sent to Boston for Spooner You all know it to be true too
  18. Seriously doubt those guys slide past #35 Take Pittsburgh for the latest example Fleury has fought to keep his perch. If they lose Murray they still have a very promising Tristan Jarry coming up. If we get a pick for Tanev, I would seriously love to get Oettenger or even the Finn at #33. Preferably Oettenger after his freshman year. He can join Utica right after Demko Comes up to Canucks.
  19. Bowers and Poehling will be long gone by the time #33 rolls around. Not saying I'm on the Oettenger train, you are right that there are plenty of talented prospects at 33 but I'm saying don't be surprised
