  1. I wouldn't say no chance when a guy signs on the cheap like that. Usually an indicator that alot of other teams passed on him. Outside of Vegas.... who does he replace on other teams?
  2. I wouldn't doubt that Burmistrov gets sent to Utica as well. He too could be great for guys like JV, Dahlen and the rest
  3. Andrew Ladd is another great comparison. Took a few years to start truly hitting the score sheet Both are the same size, high draft picks, same junior team, hickey attributes Again....ppl figure if a guy doesn't score 20 in his first shift or season, that he is a bust but when he DOES finally score they love him. Armchair quarterbacks
  4. Wow...aim high eh? But Torres is a good example as well High draft pick that didn't go too far. Still carved out a 13yr career tho. Torres-Malhotra-Hansen Still my favorite Canucks 3rd line of all time I'm positive Jake will do fine tho Sometimes it just takes the right coach to get thru to a player. How many coaches did Doan play for during his career? Heck, his old Blazers coach Don Hay coached the 'Yotes for a season or 2. Maybe Green is the guy for Jake? Maybe it's the next coach? Or another coach on another team. At that point everyone here will have a melt down and call it another dark day and how could we ever let Jake go It just seems ppl these days expect a guy to score 20 on his first shift to get any respect.
  5. Laurance Gilman was on TSN1040 yesterday and the subject was Shane Doan and then the subject changed to Virtanen. Gilman made a huge point to say that both of their careers have run parallel. Both had great junior careers, despite Doan being on a powerhouse Blazers team and WJC dream team that year Both were drafted 6th and 7th overall Both have the same build, and hockey attributes Both had slow starts to their NHL careers. In year 3, Doan was still being sent up and down to AHL, and yet we are up in arms and calling Jake a bust when he has to be sent down still In Jakes first year, he matched Doans numbers while playing 20-30 games less. Doan didn't crack 20 goals until his 5th season, took 10 years to crack 30, and he consistently put up 50-65 points for the rest of his career and yet everyone drools over Doan and is demanding that he be put into the HHOF. If Jake can carve out those same numbers,(and I'm positive he will) I think fans will be doing the same. Can the fans here actually wait 10 yrs for Jake to crack 30? Yet Ferraro chimes in that Jake has a ceiling as high as Hansen and suddenly ppl want to trade him for a bag of pucks coz they figure he will never get into the top 6 in the line-up. NHL is literally LITTERED with star players that took YEARS to finally break out Naslund, Bertuzzi, also took years to break out....look how they turned out
  6. He gives me the biggest reason to cheer for USA now. If he played for Canada, he would already be the most talented guy. Cant wait to wake up at 3am to watch Gilbert Brule and Andrew Ebbett hahahaha
  7. Well now that just seems like YOUR opinion....which you are entitled to and I respect that....BUT Maybe ask yourself this.... Ya Benning said "We will miss his speed". Do you not see that as management team input? As if to talk his boss out of trading a player they selected 2nd overall? They just lost Nathan Horton and had a decision to make on Seguin who was pretty much a bar hopping mess at the time. Now when they finally come to the conclusion to rid themselves of this....do you NOT think that other teams aren't privvy to that knowledge? Getting Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Morrow and whatever else was probably THE best package they could get from ANYONE. Don't make it sound as if Benning was the lobbyist and put his foot down and insisted Seguin be traded for the sake of sullying his name.
  8. Ya...it was ALL Benning huh? HE was the GM huh? When comparing Benning's picks since coming here and Chiarelli picks in EDM, It's obvious who was making the picks in Boston
  9. I think you missed my point....I've heard many stories of Jake being a bit of a duck too but the point I was making is that for all Patrick Kane's antis and party photos, he still remained focus and got his job done by working hard, studying film and doing everything he could to help be a factor in helping the Hawks run amok over the league in 3 cup wins and over 100 playoff games along with countless major trophies. Yes he was around 20/21 in that photo. Hard to think he is still just 28. I don't care if a player goes and tips a few back at a bar and let's his hair down. Been happening for generations. As for Jake, I've been an avid supporter of this guy since we drafted him. I've always said that he was exactly the guy we needed when we DID draft him. Had size, could hit, wasn't a puss, could skate like the wind, and best of all he could score and had an amazing shot. I think the end of his run with Canucks was the moment he called out the coach and whined about ice-time. Since then he got sent down to Utica where guys like Green, Ryan Johnson, and others put him in his place and humbled him to get a different mindset before he crapped away his career. Around the start of summer, for whatever reason, I would run into him at the local gas station at the same time. Each time he was dripping sweat or had signs that he just finished an intense workout. His buddy would look worse for wear. He was trying to keep low key but I said hi and just give him encouraging words. Turned out to be easy to talk to tho. Kid is ripped and I hope he finally "got it" about taking this Pro life seriously and keep focused. I for one wouldn't be disappointed if he were sent to Utica so be THE MAN and take all the hard minutes. When he does get his shot again here, I hope he rips it up and shuts alot of ppl up. For all the love that Boeser, Petterson, Goldobin, Dahlen, Horvat are getting....imagine if Virtanen comes out of nowhere to have a breakout? Suddenly we now have some depth oozing thru the line-up. GO Jake GO
  10. How old do you think Patty Kane was in that Limo photo? The next day the Canucks kicked Hawks butts. Assist went to The Roxy
  11. the difference between Jake partying and Kane partying is that Kane still had his crap together and still went out and busted his arse off, watched video, and found ways to improve his game, whereas Jake..........
  12. Absolutely!!! Having a few multiple goal games throughout the next year should hopefully shut a few haters up. Nice that he got to play with some talent towards the end of the year. Valk, Goldobin.....
  13. Well ya...Jake was drafted 4 years ago. Since then we have amassed that many more prospects. Gadjovich being a good comparable. Eventually tho...this tends to be on Jake to finally get his collective "stuff" together and start being a noticable difference. Work habits, talents, dedication, IQ, etc....the "tool box full of tools". Prove he was worthy of that 6th pick.
  14. Don't get me wrong...I'm a huge JV fan. Talked to him a few times and he seems like a kid that knows he got the message and is working his arse off to prove the doubters wrong. I still think one more year in Utica getting top/hard minutes (pp,pk,5v5) under a "development coach" while avoiding what is supposed to be a dog food season will be best for him. He can finally play with more skilled players too if guys like Rodin, Goldobin, Burmistrov, Chaput and possibly Dahlin, are likely to be on the team
  15. I did say that Willie got behind him and threw him right back into the line-up. For the first bit he DID do good but as the Canucks fell to the basement in the standings, guys like Jake and Jared were caught doggin it. Sedins called them out in The Province. Sure they didn't name names but we knew who they was referring to.
  16. The NHL is littered with these examples, including players from our own team. Eg,.... Markus Naslund....drafted high in 1991. Pitts gave up on him 5yrs after he was drafted and traded him. He didn't break out until 1998/99. 8years after he was drafted. Todd Bertuzzi....drafted in 1st rnd in '93. wasn't until 2001 when he finally discovered his scoring touch Andrew Ladd...drafted 4th overall in '04. wasn't until '09 when he fully embraced his role as an effective 3rd liner. later traded a few years later and started racking up the goals in '13/'14...10yrs after he was drafted David Backes is another great example for the 1000th time, just because a player is drafted in the top 10, doesn't mean they SHOULD'VE been drafted at that spot. Perhaps that's on the scouting staff, but we are here and now. The thing with Jake was he was ranked the fastest skater in the draft, could score, hit and drive the net. Basically the very type of player we DIDNT have. Jake for his part didnt do himself any favors by demonstrating his immaturity and not taking his career more seriously. He, like Bo, played their D+1 year back in Junior and eventually made their team out of the following training camp. Jake for the most part had somewhat a decent rookie year. Bo, also had a good rookie season while being shackled to the 4th line but didn't complain or whine. He was ready to burst thru his glass ceiling but WD wouldn't have it and I think that was good of WD to do that. Where Jake shot himself in the foot was his going to the Beiber concert and hangin with the Beibs while guys like Bo and Hutton are studying film or power skating or generally thinking of ways to improve their game. Everytime a camera was on Jake he was always kinda acting like a goof, mocking other guys out loud or just being loud instead of just shuttin TFU and concentrating....like Bo would be doing. Tony Gallagher even pointed it out a few times on TSN1040 morning show on a few occasions. Jake had his WJC moment and came back home the scapegoat of the nation. I believe Benning was about to send him back to junior but Willie vouched and insisted he stay and get thrown into the mix as a show of the coach having his back. That turned out to be a mistake on Willies part and Jake was dogging it during games and practices in the last pasts of the '16 season and was also evidenced by the Sedins calling Jake/Jared out for this. When it came to the off-season, Trevor spoke up in saying he personally seen Jake working out everyday but come training camp and the start of the season, it was reported and well documented that Jake wasn't in the greatest shape. The last nail in the coffin was when Jake went whining and crying to the media about playing time and throwing the coach under the bus. "Enjoy Utica kid....don't forget your STUFF." I work in Abbotsford and a month ago, I was always running into him at the same time at the same gas station, 7-11 on Immel Rd., and I swear the guy was dripping in sweat and his little buddy was in worse shape. His Jeep Cherokee is super bad ass too by the way. He seems humbled and working hard to finally prove himself. Ppl mocked him for the inline skating but I cant see why that wouldn't be a bad thing. I still have high hopes for Jake and hope he CAN and WILL become useful. seeing his late season chemistry with a skilled guy like Goldobin is very encouraging. Both love to skate and make plays at a high level. Another year of Utica with a few tasty call-ups should do the trick. I'm hoping and can see Burmistrov getting sent down Goldobin-Burmistrov-Virtanen this could be a great line
  17. For all the press and excitement that surrounded Gaudette, we never got to enjoy what Lockwood was all about. Here's to a great upcoming sophomore season tho. U of Michigan is going to get a boost from Josh Norris and small but skilled D in Quinten Hughes that's likely to be a high draft pick next year
  18. I'm hammered on Steamworks laughing my arse off at this. Is that actually Joe Cocker? Bahahahahaha
  19. wouldn't fault Sakic for taking the best D available. Avs need skilled D....
  20. scored as many points and very comparable to Josh Norris. going to play at North Dakota. remember the last 2 guys we had come out of there. Physical/balls to the wall 2 way center. D.... David Farrance is a pp guy with Makars size, committed to Boston U D.... Robin Salo, played a lot of hard minutes for LIIGA. still room to grow but he already seems a solid rock D that can provide great outlets and a quick transition game
  21. At 55, I'm hoping David Farrance, Max Gildon, Josh Brook, Dylan Samberg
