Wouldnt they qualify for some of that business money Trudeau put aside for business impacted.

Eb games was trying to justify its self as an essential service and for staff to ignore police requests to close its doors.

Selling video games ( especially those that can bought online) is not a essential service:angry:

I was thinking about it the other night how having a pet would be so beneficial for people right now...myself included; and my elderly Mom that is in lockdown in an independent retirement home.  No visitors, including relatives allowed....I haven’t seen her for over 5 weeks now.

I have been calling my grandma alot more cause she is in a home as well..

I am obviously biased but if you are able to get a pet do it just make sure that pet is for life. There also pet stores that are delivering supplies.

I wish I could......no pets allowed where I live, otherwise I would already have about 3 or 4.

I am starting to re-think my living situation with this current situation.  I live in a large highrise.  I am currently in self-isolation after returning from a US vacation, so can’t leave my suite.   There are a lot of people still coming and going in/out of the building.
I don’t have in-suite laundry and was away for almost 4 weeks.
If I lived in a single dwelling I could go out in my yard, have pets, not worry about all these neighbours and their germs and do some laundry!

We are also in a high raise apartment with shared laundry but we are allowed pets. Technically only 2 cats per apartment but we got permission to get a third otherwise I would apply to foster another one

The kitties have done a lot to keep me sane during the quarantine.(self isolation due to a bad cough etc).

I'm actually seriously thinking about getting one. Only problem is the humane society is closed  :(

If your looking to foster a cat. Cat therapy and rescue society is looking for fosters.

We adopted our Persian mix from them in September and he is a total sweetheart.

They are smart animals and know when we're sick.  No need to socially distance yourself from them and they won't let you anyway!

They are so very smart. We have three cats and one of them is always hovering around me in way or another. That is until TS comes home then they leave me and jump onto him.

So frustrating. The confirmed case numbers is a sham because of this.

Canada is going to wait till its too late before taking appropriate measures.

    Take Care

It is so beyond frustrating especially since I have underlying health problems. The doctor I saw said he thinks I probably have a mild case because I don't have a fever and that it is bothering my asthma. Even if I am not at risk for serious complications I am at risk of having a serious asthma attack where 911 and emerg may have to be involved. 811 told me I wouldn't even have to tell 911 ( if I needed them) that I have symptoms cause since I have no travel history I don't qualify for catching covid.

    Thank you.

I am feeling slightly better today. Headache is better, cough and chest are about the same. No fever

    Vancouver aswell

Public health will not test you here even if you have symptoms (and a request from a doctor) unless you are in distress.

I basically had a public health nurse give me a management plan to tell me what to look out to seek further medical attention via the ER or calling them back.

I am asthmatic and my asthma is crazy, coughing non stop, wheezing after coughing or walking up hill or cleaning my house. Also my chest hurts so badly.

I am in quarantine now till the end of March.

Was looking into when you should consider getting tested yesterday (I believe it was the cdc or provincial website) and it said only if you had significant symptoms.... it struck me as dumb lol.

I don't think there are enough tests it is the only thing thing that makes sense.

It was actually 7 due to inbound travellers.

And I don’t understand why they are advising us not to travel, but continue to allow inbound flights....without any screening upon arrival.

They said 5 were travel related  the others are undermined at this time which makes me think that's there new word for community spread... I agree they need to do more with the inbound flights.

Also update on my earlier post a friend in college with no travel history went to the ER in Maple Ridge with asthmatic type symptoms and a fever and is awaiting results of her test. She does not have asthma.

How is anyone to even know this?

No idea considering there is community spread. If I get a fever and my respiratory symptoms get worse I will ask for a flu test. They did say they found th community spread via influenza testing so I think they are testing influenza tests.

    good idea to call 811

if i recall, you are young

and likely not really in the higher risk group, even with asthma

but good to be cautious and thorough

if you need to be off sick for a while

i'm sure you will find in the near future

there will be many others off as well

and online support groups can develop

since you are early in the process

i think you are tasked with setting up some sort of group on this site

I am 41 but I guess that is still youngish. I  do act and look younger but that is because I steal TS youth lol

I am sure its probably just a cold bugging my asthma but since I work with a 15 month old I wanted to be careful.

You only need to get tested if you have:

    - a cough

    - trouble breathing

    - fever

Most people do not have all 3. I am off with a cold now but no fever just fyi.

No fever but cough, pressure in my chest, wheezing when I walk up Hills etc. I have asthma and a cold/allergies so its probably due to that but going see if I qualify for testing or if I have to wait for a fever.

I am on hold with 811.

If you had it checked or taking meds for it, you should be fine unless its something major like cardiovascular disease or you are taking meds as transplant patient. Any meds that can weaken your immune system would be a major concern. Really depends what is your underlying health

Asthmatic plus I potentially have scar tissue in my lungs because of clots 4 years ago. Some doctors say scar tissue is possible some say that the residue pain I have left over isnt intense enough.

So put it this way....people on the plane who aren't showing symptoms are in the same contained area as those who are.

Then they let them off the plane based on "not" showing symptoms.  The part they aren't considering is "yet".  Because everyone who has symptoms had none at first...that's kind of how it works.  To assume they aren't carrying this because they aren't showing signs is really mind boggling to me.  These are experts?

No one should be allowed off the plane...it's ludicrous and very negligent in my view.  Those people are going to be quarantined but, in the meantime, let them wander amongst others?  Makes no sense.

Oh I agree 1000% like how do they expect to even quarantine anyone on a plane if they did start showing symptoms.

    Not well enough.

"If they show signs" isn't good enough....what's the point of quarantining them in Ontario if they let them off the plane in Vancouver first??  Makes no sense at all.   Some may not show signs but it doesn't mean they won't at some point and a better safe than sorry approach seems the only responsible thing to do.  Mind boggling to consider anything BUT quarantining everyone on board as part of the process if they're destined for...quarantine?

The news said last night that they wont be let off the plane in Vancouver unless they are showing symptoms and then there care would be taken over by bc health care.

Still makes me a bit nervous but at least they are being quarantined and our citizens will be brought back.

Also cause I am seeing this everywhere and it's annoying.

People going off about the flu need to remember one important thing. There is a vaccination for the Flu there is not one for the corna virus.

In reality the fact the flu kills so many is beyond stupid because there legit is a way to stop it but antivaxxers...

First presumptive case of coronavirus confirmed in B.C.

Health officials have confirmed the first presumptive case of coronavirus in B.C.

Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry said the case involves a man in his 40s who lives in the Vancouver Coast Health region. The man recently travelled to Wuhan, China.

Henry said the man is in isolation at his home.

The update comes as China is reporting 25 more deaths from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to at least 106. It includes the first death in Beijing.

Meanwhile, the wife of the first confirmed patient in Canada is isolated in her home as she awaits final confirmation of her own case.

Officials, including the federal health minister, say the risk associated with coronavirus is low.

Some more info from a separate story on the Vancouver case ..........

B.C. reports first coronavirus in Vancouver region

First patient visited Wuhan, China, reported symptoms

B.C. has recorded its first case of novel coronavirus from China, B.C. Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry says.

The patient, a man in his 40s who regularly visits China, is “doing well in isolation at home,” Henry told a news conference at the B.C. Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver Tuesday.

B.C.’s first patient visited Wuhan, the Chinese city where the new virus was first identified, and reported symptoms after he returned to his home in the Vancouver Coastal Health Region.

The man was aware of the risk and “self-isolated” after his return, Henry said. “This person was not symptomatic on his flight, and there is no risk” to other people, she said.

Canada’s Foreign Minister Francois-Phillippe Champagne said Tuesday the federal government is in contact with Chinese authorities and is part of an international effort to control the spread of the new respiratory virus.

Health officials say the world-wide sharing of information and speed of diagnostic tests has improved greatly since the 2003 outbreak of another new viral strain, called severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

In February 2003, the Chinese government notified the World Health Organization of 305 cases of SARS, with five deaths and 105 health-care workers infected. In the early stages, China provided information to WHO only on Guangdong province, where the virus was believed to have originated, and discouraged news reports of other infection sites in the country.

SARS spread to Hong Kong and from there to Toronto, from people who came into contact with each other at the same Hong Kong hotel. More than 400 Canadians were eventually diagnosed with SARS and 44 died in an epidemic that killed 800 people world-wide.

Anyone know if this person was in any of the ER's? If so which one?

I ask cause I was in the ER 11 days ago(for a sprained ankle)
