Veteran safety Sharper agrees to one-year deal with Saints

NFL.com Wire Reports

Free-agent safety Darren Sharper has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, a league source told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi.

Sharper tweeted later Monday, "To the entire WHO-DAT Nation, guess what? I'M BAACKK!"

Sharper returns to the Saints after recording 71 tackles and nine interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns, in his first season in New Orleans.

The five-time Pro Bowl pick was an unrestricted free agent and was pursued by the Jacksonville Jaguars before deciding to return to help the Saints defend their Super Bowl title.

Sharper spent his first eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, followed by four years with the Minnesota Vikings.

5 out of the last 7 AFC Championship games were played in cold-weather climates. Not to mention 6 out of 8 NFC Championship games.

Those games are almost as important as they are the game that decides if you play in the SB or not. Not to mention that it was pouring rain in Miami a few years ago..

Some of the greatest games in the history were played in cold weather. It's stupid to host the most important game in a weather-controled climate. The conditions are a part of the game

It very well could.

Already talk about the 2015 SB.

AZ, Miami, and New Orleans want to host it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/05/25/arizona-miami-new-orleans-could-bid-for-2015-super-bowl/

Just hours after New York was awarded the 2014 Super Bowl, there's already talk about which city will host the 2015 game.

The Associated Press reports that Arizona is expected to bid for the 2015 Super Bowl, as is Miami, whose bid was voted down by league owners today. Tampa -- the other city to lose out in favor of New York today -- hasn't decided whether to make another bid to host the game.

Meanwhile, Saints Executive VP Dennis Lauscha told the New Orleans Times-Picayune he hopes New Orleans bids for a Super Bowl soon.

"Pending no conflicts [with the schedule] we'll probably be looking maybe next year [for the 2015 Super Bowl] or the year after for the [2016 Super Bowl] to get back in the race," Lauscha said. "We knocked around the idea this year of jumping into the race, but there were some conflicts and we couldn't do it. But we are ready to get in the race and keep getting Super Bowls."

Obviously the leauge isn't afraid to play in a cold-weather game. They PUSHED NY to the bid, and the owners voted on it. They wanted this game.

Millions and millions of people go to NY every year in terrible conditions, I don't think a little snow or cold weather is going to stop people from watching the FIRST EVER cold-weather Superbowl.

Did people not go to all those winter classics because it was cold outside? No.

Football is continously played in cold weather, this is history being made.

Games that decide who goes to the SB are decided by weather.

The tuck rule? The Ice bowl? Music City Miracle? The Comeback? The Drive? The Fumble?

Superbowl 2014 will be played at Meadowlands Stadium in New York/New Jersey.

First SB played in outdoor conditions, finally, an important game played like it should be.

Can't wait.

I'm excited for this too. I hope they get nailed by a snow storm. It's made for some of the best Grey Cup, glad the NFL is finally on board.

had a great career.

I was thinking, not sure if it was meant for something like this though. When the season starts there should be an NFL section under than new "Discussion Groups" sub-forum. It's tough to keep soo much in one thread?

Season begins in just over 12 weeks? Cannot wait.

Saints get their rings on Wed.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/06/14/saints-will-get-their-super-bowl-rings-on-wednesday-night/

In the same week that Saints running back Reggie Bush took a big step closer to giving up his 2005 Heisman Trophy, Bush will be getting something that will be even harder to have taken away.

A ring commemorating victory in Super Bowl XLIV.

The ceremony will occur on Wednesday, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. One night before the 12-week countdown to the start of the 2010 season, the first time the Saints will be defending an NFL title.
