New NDP attack ad

Recommended Posts

The OP trashes the Tories later in this thread, it's pretty clear he does not vote Conservative. I would hazard a guess he's aligned closer to the red then the blue (and hardly a leap there)

What he's doing (and I agree) is slamming attack ads that are nothing but lies and slander. Who lies worse is not an argument, lies are lies and attack ads are garbage.

There have been anti attack ads topics before, he did not even post in. If he was REALLY unbiased he would have also posted one of the boatload of Conservative attack ads out there. In fact the most recent attack ad the Conservatives have done, was released prior to this one. The NDP released this one as a retort to the Conservative one released a whole month prior.

Really sad to see the NDP have brought themselves down to the Conservatives low level. I am digusted by the no substance Conserative attack ad on Muclair but don't think responding with an attack ad of their own was the way to go. Instead I would have liked the NDP to come out and say to anyone who would listen that we won't do attack ads, instead lets focus on the issues but I guess sadly that kind of stuff doesn't get much attention.

I wouldn't say that the ad is a lie it's just ignorant about the whole world. Canada's economy is still primarily driven by commodity prices and so long as those are flowing (doubtful under the NDP) there's really not much any government can do about our economy - the more one proposes to intervene the worse you know it will be.

If you want to attack Harper on the economy point out that it was his government that lowered lending standards and up the free insurance to the banks through the increases to CMHC that Canada is now at it's highest level of debt to equity ever and it is one shock away from having the potential to go into the same kind of crisis that is popping up all over the world.

When the global financial crisis hit rather than lead and take some lumps that would have actually made us the one country to get off free (primarily due to a decade of belt tightening from the previous liberal government) with a relatively small amount of damage he artificially charged the economy with a series of borrow friendly moves that put off the pain long enough to get a majority but rest assured a much larger hangover is coming as a result. (See once again how doing nothing would once again have been an improvement...).

That kind of information would make one hell of an attack ad - too bad most Canadians wouldn't be able to understand it and are themselves often part of the problem.

Oh - and if the NDP think there's cuts to social programs now just wait and see what's coming down the line. Even if they somehow pull off a miracle and get in power!

I think they got the best position to make a comeback sometime in the future, be it five or ten years from now. The political centre is the best ground since most Canadians are moderate. Harper has pushed the Conservatives much to the left and Mulcair and has pushed the NDP much to the right, both squeezing the Liberals but if they push much further, they risk splintering their own party. There is a lot of disgruntled fiscal conservatives who see Harper as a Keynesian and disgruntled socialists who don't like Mulcair. Even if the Liberals die, I wouldn't be surprised if some successful offshoot forms.
