^I was worried Jake Muzzin would be an arbitration case, and I didn't want to be the guinea pig, haha, so happy he signed with us eventually. Now I want to see what he signs for IRL, as I saw today his TSN rating, while not a super great gauge, put him as the second best rookie in the league this year. He trailed Patrick Wiercioch by 0.35 points and led Brandon Saad, Justin Shultz and Dougie Hamilton by at least 0.59 points. Congrats Jake, well done. Bobby Sanguinetti at 23rd and Marcus Foligno at 26th on the TSN rating list of Rookies are also making New York proud.

EDIT: Now with more link!

I think this is a far more accurate ranking of rookie players from the 2013 season www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect-rankings - Like they say "opinions are like assh0les everyone has one".

WAIVERS: The following players have cleared waivers.

Steve Montador (NSH)

Tim Brent (NYR)

We are happy to see that Tim cleared and we can proceed to slot him into the Whale lineup, bumping down the depth chart of centers as he slots into the top seed on the farm. We feel Tim can and should earn his roster spot in camp, however with the wealth of young talent that will be pushing him, we wanted to be fair to Tim Brent, above all else and give him an opportunity to play on a team that may have needed his skill set in the big league CDCGML. Going forward, we are confident that Tim will continue to provide the Rangers organization with the top notch professionalism that has become his calling card whether that be with the Whale or the Rangers, or a mix of both this coming year.

WAIVERS: The St. Louis Blues have claimed Nick Schultz off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Blues are very pleased to add a Veteran Defender like Nick to our Roster.

He gives us more depth on the Defence and may the option to move one of our

Veteran Defenders during the Season if Youngsters like Gryba , Gelinas , Borowiecki

or probably Konrad Abeltshauser have success.

Blues Defence Squad Update

Bouwmeester - Ehrhoff

Schultz - Sekera

Erskine - Prout

Gryba

Greenville Defence Squad Update

Borowiecki - Gelinas

Jarvinen - Konan

Fournier - Abeltshauser

Waterlogged Flames Buoyed by good day at the Draft.

seth-jones.jpg

After much speculation the Flames proudly selected Seth Jones first overall, After the draft GM Zen said "This was a hell of a draft the top 4 and maybe even 5 players all deserved a first overall pick, but for our organization Seth was the clear choice because a stud defenceman like him is rare and is exactly a hole we needed filled."

With their second first round pick at 27 the Flames took Jones" WJC teammate Ryan Hartman. "Hartman is a kid with skill and who isn't afraid to get physical. He will do all the little things on the ice that help a team succeed and we see a bright future for him", said GM Zen.

With their first pick of the second round at 32 the Flames selected JC Lipon of the Kamloops Blazers. "A lot of people may be shocked to see JC go so high in the draft but we felt with his stellar season this year that it would be a risk to not take him while we had the opportunity. JC really stepped up this year in Kamloops and we feel he is more then ready to make an impact at the NHL level."

With their final pick of the draft the Flames took Ryan Fitzgerald at 44. "we were really happy to get Ryan with this pick, a lot of people are righting him off because of his size. What he lacks in size he makes up for with tremendous speed and skill and also smarts. We feel he could be a sleeper pick who could surprise everyone at the NHL level."

GM Zen had this to say at the closing of the draft, "We are extremely happy to add Seth, JC, Ryan and Ryan to our organization. Along with Strome, Ferraro, McNabb, Shinniman, Korobov, Halischuk and Bailey we feel we have the makings of a great young core here in Calgary."
