oldnews
The Oilers need to grasp the concept of team building. A bunch of picks alone don't make a hockey team. Scrivens is better than he gets credit for. Backlund was drafted 7 years ago; prospect status debatable. Glencross is a solid veteran - if you don't think so, you're welcome to deal him and his cap friendly contract to us. You have a very optimistic "top cupboard". Winnipeg - has a better core of young defensemen than either Alberta team, and some big, young talent up front as well. If they can get some better goaltending, they'll push for a playoff spot. The Canucks aren't hog tied for cap space at all - they're actually in healthy cap condition with more flexibility than they've had in a long time. They're not going the "rebuild" route in the sense of your Alberta teams. The right coach and they'll be back in the playoffs next year.
Darth Kane
Jets...if the had a goalie they'd make the playoffs (2nd wild card). They have some good youngsters on the team and more on the way (Morrisey and Petan).
BanTSN
I don't think any will be a legit cup contender again until Vancouver wins it all.The rest may fluke their way to the finals one year, but contender? That's us all the way.Question is when.
