SamJamIam
True. But they aren't trading him. Kekolainen said when he inquired about getting a top pick in this years draft teams said Johansen and that was the end of the conversation. You want Johansen? Horvat, Tanev, Bonino, and a 1st MIGHT get a conversation started. But would likely be ignored as well. Except Johansen is not obliged to re-sign or play for Colorado. He can request a trade, in which case his value plummets. It would be a lame move (*cough*Kesler!*coughcough*) but if he really wanted out, he could do it. Gollumpus
If he doesn't sign, he's still an RFA. If we give him an offer sheet and it's matched, we're not penalized directly, but other GM's do not look favourably on offer sheets. It hurts future trade negotiations (especially with CBJ). Someone could try a modified version of the Gillis dodge for Shea Weber. Offer a one year deal (the amount is not too high, maybe around the player's current salary level, which in this case is under $1 million), which is then signed by the player. The current team has to match. One year later the player is a UFA. Things went south this plan when Weber signed a bigger and richer deal with term which he got from the Flyers, which was then matched by Nashville. Now I'm not saying that Benning should do this, but it is something a GM could do. regards, G.
-Virtanen
4 years? He probably won't even bother signing it. It would basically just be so he could get to UFA status. Isn't that what he wants? A contract/term so he could get to become a UFA?
