Pretty much.  It didn't work, then Burke came in with his "five year plan", that didn't work..then some in between, that didn't work...and now the scorched earth re-build (which made sense to them, Phanuef and Kessel never were given enough skill to work with (Clarkson - their Saviour! lol), and with a 1 in 5 chance in getting a generational talent in Mathews to work around...well they won that and there is reason for optimism).  With M. Reilly, Nylander, Marner and Mathews - this team has a good chance at having THIS re-build bite and loads of cap space to boot....

What is happening in Vancouver is far different that what took place in Toronto.  JB has a much different approach than JFJ, Burke and Nonis.

First and formost. Our Goaltending looks fairly set for years to come with Markstrom and Demko. Remember, the first big move post Sundin was to trade Rask for that guy who doesn't play in the NHL anymore ( Raycroft). Then Giguere, Reimer, Bernier and now Anderson have all been the next saviours (savers...;).

Second, we are retaining our top ten picks. First thing Burke did to make a splash, was to trade a 2nd OA and a 7th OA for Kessel plus a second and third. He gave up more the he would have paid if he offer sheeted Kessel. People here complain about giving up 2nd rounders. Kessel, we know how that turned out.

The Phanuel trade was okay, but paying him 7m for 7 years was really bad. Makes the Sbisa signing look decent.

JB appears to have a much different eye and criteria for drafting, no one on this board can tell me that Burke and Nonis can draft better than JB with a straight face. One hopes Juolevi has a much better NHL career as a 5th OA than L. Schenn.

FA signings. David Clarkson.... Mic drop.
