  1. How? Only heavyweight to go undefeated ... the "computer" fight, had Rocky beating Ali in his prime too. And yes just stirring the pot ... the barber sequence was the best!
  2. Didn't Burrows once fight Godzilla and save Tokyo! Pretty sure he did.
  3. Just came to see if it's still here. What about that OEL buyout? Early days yet... but he's 3rd in ice time, league wide, playing top pairing minutes and has one goal and one assist. All for 2.25 million. About what he's losing in pay with his buyout lol. Don't worry, i'm sure they are considering making Tochett a player coach anytime soon.
  4. Also where are the scrums these days? Everyone skating away. It's embarrassing. Last time i'm going to visit the CDC. Good luck. Also thanks Stawns.
  5. The one ref system changed the game, as much or more then removing the redline which I don't mind at all. Problem I had with the one ref system is that the secondary ref, felt like he needs to make a call. And that players no longer can look for the ref and then do something untoward to the other team. Know it seems brutal, but the best hockey as far as the fans go, and would argue the players and teams too, is far in the rearview mirror. Expansion ruined it too. Get it's a business, but imagine what hockey would he like today if there were 24 teams instead. Remove the fourth line and third pairings. Skill wise and for sure toughness wise the league has suffered for 3 decades really.
  6. Best uniform all-time. Bring it back. Also why don't games look like this anymore? "lose the services of Antoski for ten minutes, whoopied doo" hilarious
  7. Your hilarious! Intellivision was great fun. Can't believe my parents would buy us 3 games every Christmas at that price (one each before they kept having kids lol).. Used to love renting them .... Games we'd play just to see the colour of the screen change lol. And yes a 20 inch screen TV, had to go to grandmas when we were really small to see a colour TV too. A 26 inch screen piece of furniture, that weighed half a ton.
  8. I remember doing this and thinking it was awesome!
  9. Servers down right now for you cripplereh? Trying to sign in and that's what's coming up ...
  10. Before reading anyone's posts, just want to say, what a terrific journey it's been sharing with you all. Special shout out to my brother, the biggest Canuck fan I know. His love of the Canucks and hockey got an analog fellow like myself, onto the forum and eventually joined. Appreciate all of you, and am very grateful to have the added value it's brought watching and discussing the sport. Lots of personalities on here. Going to miss discussing hockey with Biestra, Elias Petterson (thanks for the big trip down memory lane this summer with the Gretzky thread), those folks out in small town BC you know who your are, Smithers Joe and all the elders who's wisdom i've always sought in the real world about players I only heard about play. Spook007 and other fans far away, whose input i've enjoyed almost daily the past decade. And special gratitude to the moderators, Deb especially, keep ringing that cowbell!. AJ for your interest in hockey history, those time consuming threads were a lot of fun, and thanks for the effort and time you provided all of us those summers. Vintage for being a computer. And so many others. Even the "bad" ones. A guy/gal named the Gaurdian, who's devils advocate position around our re-tool might have been over the top in the way it was presented, and some others on this site today, keeping it real. Don't like to hear it but at least the site wasn't Vanilla. Some kids who made it fun posting 20 threads in a couple days. Nice to see those balls. HKSR. Recently BobLaw adding WAR cards ... Characters like Alflives. Too many to bring up, apologies for missing a bunch. What a wonderful colourful bunch of fans, thanks everyone, for sharing your ideas and thoughts and hockey memories.
  11. Green was EPs coach when he was a rookie. So was QHs. Let's not ignore the fact, that Green is also ahead of every other coach not named AV, Pat Quin and Roger Neilson in the books either for playoff games in one season. Sure Demko made it work for a couple extra games. Nobody was sad when we beat St Loius, and Berube. I seriously think that it's a roster issue. JB traded away all our PKers, two coaches couldn't make that work. Green did as well as Tochett in that regard, and had to deal with massive roster change all at once. WD didn't coach those guys. Think that's something you're forgetting.
  12. Yep. It was 95% roster. 5% coaching. Bruce's record went down the toilet and he was also a mercy killing in the end. Don't care about goaltending. Green had to put up with an easy first goal most of his time with Markstrom too.
  13. Lol. Coaching. The same coach that noticed his ability right away and gave him the minutes and the first unit PP time. Also did that with Brock and QHs. Thank god we didn't have Babcock. Not sure are you talking about Tochett as an AHL coach too? Guess so. Jack Hughes made Tatar become one of the best WAR cards (ask Boblaw about that). He's good. You for sure have to compare at the same age. With that said, if EP goes down now, we have no playoff aspirations. Not that we should be planning the parade with the current roster anyways. Brock was the best player forward we had the covid year. Miller has had five or six coaches now, didn't seem to matter whom he had did it? It's not coaching, it's the roster. We haven't had a top one in over a decade now. At least we got to see some offense last year at the expense of defense though. Green put his time in. I agree with Tochett, he's a good coach. People just expected a lot more for whatever reason. No idea why. That was a pretty mediocre roster. What else was he supposed to do with that defense anyways? Edler and Tanev. Myers helped and look at how people hate on him. We haven't had a good D for so long now. People like Pearson and rightly so. Makes any line a little better. Who does he give accolades to for helping him stay in the league? Green. Why in the world, would you expect us to be good during the worst part of our cycle? WD and then Green for awhile. Our team just sucked. The Sedins weren't nearly as good as they used to be. We're so slow. Brock gave us some hope. EP got a lot of points but also had a lot of his points in 3 games (as a rookie under Green), you could tell he was special though. Too bad JB didn't think we shouldn't have a Reaves type to help because nobody else seemed to care about his health. We still lack that. So far EPs had Bruce, as an "experienced" coach. Miller also scored a lot of points. And Horvat scored a lot of goals, under Bruce, they sure forgot how to keep things close though, how many leads did Green blow?. Even during the Bruce bump, media pointed out the steam was let out of the room, but those defensive lessons, didn't just disappear during the ten game winning streak either. A couple practices lol. Didn't make a difference. Bruce inspired them, but didn't teach them squat. Let's see how EP does with another "AHL" coach. That dogshit coaching, won him a Calder. I'm sure if he had Babcock, he'd get 14 minutes a game.
  14. Kid scored 48 points right after the draft playing 14 minutes a night, that's what Miller did in TB with first unit PP time before we traded for him. JV never came close to that. Like I said, maybe, maybe not as far as drafting EP. But for sure we wouldn't have QHs. Right now, he's considered one of the best players in the league (THN ranked him 7, EP at 24, any position). Not many kids can go right into the NHL and make an impact, he would have passed Daniel Sedin as the best LW. MT Horvat Brock, would have been so much better than what we had. Have no doubts we would have moved up the standings. Could be even worse, we might still have JB a running the show. Only the Rangers were interested in EP. Would we have moved up that far? Maybe. For sure the following draft, we'd likely be drafting Bouchard instead. Maybe Dobson or another small winger who knows. And who knows if MT wouldn't do the same thing with us and bolt. We for sure can't say with any sort of certainty, that we'd have both EP and QHs and MT right now. However, if we'd drafted Chychrun or Sergei instead, yes much better chance. They both took time to get there.
  15. Umm. Was he though? Where did ISS and THN rank him. And where was he ranked pre and post WJ's? OJ was seen as the defenseman that was most likely to make the NHL, with the highest floor, but was not even close when it came to upside. Chychrun a year before his draft year, was considered as a number one contender. Injuries lowered his draft slot. Agree Dubois was our guy, JB basically said his name a half dozen times pre-draft. HE was supposed to go at 5. PLD moved up to 3, and bumped MT who was supposed to go 2-3. OJ was ranked 9-11 by TN /ISS, considered a safe but not sexy or flashy pick in his write-ups. Wasn't at the same level as the guys who were supposed to go at the top of the draft. It was for sure a surprise pick, given a slam dunk fell on our lap. Didn't even consider MT, because he wasn't supposed to be available. OJ posted mediocre offense in a loaded London team. Bouchard out performed him draft plus one. Then he went to Finland. Only Laine had a decent career so far out of those WJ winners. It should be a case study, as to why not to weigh one tournament and not also consider the body of work. Sergachev, Chychrun and OJ. Of the 3 whom plays the right side? McAvoy wasn't ranked high enough to consider. We basically let CAL pick a second overall, that fell on our lap. MT's stock was always high, top 2-4, and it went way way up, during their memorial cup run. What was it again? A goal a game pace. There is no way to defend the pick. We definitely didn't go BPA. It was an organizational need pick, and he blew that too. All 3 were more or less interchangable depending what lists you look at. Didn't pick the guy with the most upside, or the man sized ready to play right away guy either. Only thing is, MT would have made the roster, and picked higher EPs draft. And if we were ahead of NYR, we would have missed out. QHs ... on him too. Things worked out ok.
  16. Very versatile defenseman. Like that he believes he's in his "sweet" spot.
  17. Was an incredible actor. The one where he played a bum was unreal .... Good Will Hunting wouldn't have been nearly as powerful without his performance either. If it wasn't for his comedic roles, Robin Williams could challenge the greatest actors of his era. De Niro, Al Pacino...Jack Nicolson maybe too. Whenever he took on a character, he became that character.
  18. Batherson. Hart. And some other douche-bag kids. The 2003 a-holes are locked and sealed.
  19. Let me guess. Jack Hughes "WAR" card came up better than EP's? Matt Larkin has Jack Hughes at number five. Fantasy pick with all the usual stuff. WAR is fun, but it's not a science either. EP is number 10, that's pretty nice. As for Matt Larkin, I will never forgive you.
  20. Exactly what I wish I communicated from the start. I'm sure QHs will, despite his "small body gentleman"
  21. What he's got going for him, is he's the only RHC on the roster right now expected to compete for a spot.
  22. Sad but true. We'd need both Podz and Hogs plus Wolanin or someone to break out to match what they have. NJ is already a fringe contender, and expected to contend soon if not this year. We certainly can't say the same about our club. Well aside from the eastern media has us as a dark horse. Tough getting fed a lot of sources with conflicting information. Do know that hockey doesn't follow the script. There is always good teams that fail, and someone out of the woodwork that excels.
