[Discussion] Canuck backup plans on Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli

I would go for the same 6 D as you suggested, but with one change.  I would sign Hamonic instead of Ceci to pair with Juolevi.  Hamonic has more grit and can fight if needed as well, which are traits that we should have in at least one of our top 6 D (now that Borowiecki is no longer an option).

Agreed on the player but depends on the asking price.  Was also rumored to want to go home and sign with the Jets.

Probably quite a few rumors out there

A 33 yr old Martinez with only one year left but a 4 mil cap hit isn't an improvement for the Canucks compared to last year's roster.

The Canucks only have 7.9 mil in cap space and today Jake could go to arbitration if no deal is worked out in the next 2.5 hour, 12:30 right now.

It could mean Martinez for Jake if he does go and gets north of 3 mil, which is the going price for players scoring like he is, you have to take ino account ice time and circumstances like no PP time, he could easily get 3.5 mil avg.

If the Canucks did do a Martinez and Jake got that kind of money they may have to walk away from him and the makes it a trade off for a one year older player.

It was never about losing these guys, the team would never have had enough money to sign them so it has to go a slightly altered route and look for improvement in young players of the future, but not draft picks or raw prospects.

There are loads of forwards out there to replace Toffoli or even Virtanen that will be much cheaper, without a staunch defence for a season it may not matter who but if the team concentrates on building from the back out then they have to take advantage of other teams cap problems and use the limited cap space available to get as much as possible now.

If the team is going to spend 4 mil then go young for a possible future stud.

It is just too bad that these vets that left and the team got nothing in return were not used in trades for assets, obviously there was a pretty high value out there

Replacing Toffoli is much harder, how do you replace an "A" prospect and a 2nd rnd picks let alone the player, that IMO is impossible
