[Proposal] A Creative Blockbuster 3-Way Deal

Recommended Posts

The Trade:

To ARZ:

Nils Hoglander

Grigori Denisenko

To VAN:

Mackenzie Weegar

Sam Bennett

To FLA:

JT Miller

Tyler Myers

VAN out: Miller, Myers, Hoglander

VAN in: Weegar, Bennett

FLA out: Weegar, Bennett, Denisenko

FLA in: Miller, Myers

ARZ out: Cap space

ARZ in: Hoglander, Denisenko

The Cap Manoeuvring:

In the deal, VAN retains 25% on JT Miller ($1,312,500 retained), and ARZ retains 50% of the remainder ($1,968,750) as well as 50% of Tyler Myer's cap hit ($3,000,000).

Net cap hit for FLA:  -$2,706,250

IN:  JT Miller is $1,968,750 and Tyler Myers is $3,000,000 for a total of $4,968,750.

OUT:  Weegar and Bennett for $7,675,000.

Net cap hit for VAN:  -$2,262,500

IN:  Weegar and Bennett for $7,675,000

OUT:  Miller @ 25% retained and Myers for $9,937,500.

Net cap hit for ARZ for 2022/23:  $4,968,750 (Miller and Myers)

The Reasoning:

Both FLA and VAN are cap crunched.  FLA doesn't want to take a major step back, so adding Miller and Myers both at incredible bargain cap hits gives them the guys they need to push for a big run this year, and they also save nearly $3M in the process.

VAN acquires that coveted RHD to play with Hughes, and an 18yo C that can put up good numbers that maintains the depth lost with Miller moving on.

ARZ acquires 2 good prospects and only needs to absorb the cap hits for 1 year on Miller and 2 years on Myers.

Part 2:

Ok, not done yet...

To PIT:

Garland

Poolman

To VAN:

Marino

Kapanen

PIT does this as they are looking for an offensive winger to add to their mix of forwards.  Poolman alleviates the RHD lost in Marino.

VAN does this as it brings a better mix of forwards for their bottom 6 (see below), and also brings in a very solid defensive defenceman to play on the 2nd pair.

Done deals.  How does it look?

Mikheyev-Petey-Boeser

Kuzmenko-Bo-Podkolzin

Pearson-Bennett-Kapanen

Dickinson-Lazar-Lockwood

Hughes-Weegar

OEL-Marino

Dermott-Schenn

Booyah.  Let's go kick some butt!

I don't believe that Poolman has been cleared from the concussion symptoms he's been dealing with for quite awhile. Until then, we can't trade him.
