If new tough love leadership doesnt turn him around then nothing will.

The dangerous game he is playing is if he comes out flying for the next 6 games. Hitting, being engaged at both ends of the ice etc. Then he shows the fans that he still has another level, which means he sets the new bar high and it becomes the standard. I will expect this from him moving forward regardless.

When he has Footes nose in his face, I think he'll get the message and chill out on some of his antics.

You wanna a piece of me!!??

I don't see this happening, but even if it was to, Tocchet sounded like he wasn't going to put up with Miller's shit in yesterday's press conference.

Agree, even though their play is different ,Miller and Kesler have the same angry edge to their game and why neither would make a good captain.

Petey is the obvious choice if Bo's gone by deadline although they probably won't name one until next season starts.

That said Tocchet should be able to temper Miller better with shorter shifts, less minutes, and some added disipline.

That seems high, no?  Maybe it’s 2.75 mil for the rest of this season and two more?  Are coaches’ salaries published?

Could be prorated this year and then 2.75 for each of the next 2 years.

I think Green was in the 1.5 range, Boudreau 2m + so this is a little high IMO but not outrageous.

It would be great to see all NHL head coach salaries in the league to compare, no idea where to find it though !

Something curious from the presser....why was Tocchet going on about creating a 'safe' environment for the players and Allvin followed up saying its important for the players to feel safe coming to the rink every day (I think it was him that said that)?  Is there something I missed or were they referring to some ongoing issue we don't know about?  Why wouldn't players already feel safe?

Safe to air their thoughts about the team and be able to focus on their job instead of the noise lately from media and fans.

Allvin stressing to make stepping on the ice easier for them once a structure is in place providing all buy in.

Also comments by Hughes on Pearson injury, Bear on the casual dressing room take and Myers on the BB firing lead up needs to stop.

Time to get back to playing hockey win or lose.

Mmmm sorry bro...  The media has been ruthless here for 20 years.  Always trying to sell a story regardless of the impact.  That is fact and a long standing tradition here.  They are selling you a product.  Unfortunately bad press is more successful that good press.  Hence any news outlet in the states.....we are like mindless ants eating it up.

Hence why Horvat saying one of the best things he's done in Van is deleting his twitter account just like Tocchet did now. Whatever it takes to remove as much noise as possible to affectively do their job.

Honestly I would like to see the Canucks org to rotate the number of media personalities before and after games fairly.. not to squash negative or truthful reporting but give the players a mental break from 30 minutes of rinse and repeat questions every game day.

  6. I hope Tocchets style with Foote as an asst coach finally can change the country club label this team has had for the past 8 year or so.

Both were hard nose players and Tocchet is known as a more rigid coach.

BB said  "weak mentally" numerous times and maybe he wasn't the right guy to change that in the end. Time will tell.

Liked what I heard from Tocchett. Seems like he’s going to take a very reasonable approach to the rest of the season. Understands that long term goals trump wins right now. More about teaching, evaluating and getting to know the players.

I actually didn’t even mind Rutherfords responses. I know everyone wants to crucify him but I thought he was remorseful and owned what happened. A lot of it was just media speculation and intensity driving it.

The one person I was really disappointed with today was Allvin. He’s the most responsible for this mess and he didn’t seem to own up to it too much. Looked disengaged and at times a little intimidated like he had no idea that he was to blame. Did not look like a leader with a confident direction. Seemed like a guy that is putting it on people he hired to fix things.

The president/ GM roles are sku'd here.

The fact JR admitted over stepping when asked about Hogs and Podz I think is a good step to push Allvin to work in his actual role as GM. Before that, and previous interviews Allvin just seems like a puppet.

That has to change and the real Allvin needs to step up and speak his mind, whether that's being an A-hole or whatever in the publics mind, he can't be worried about every word that comes out, Rutherfords going to squash him....

Didn’t Tocchet mention he expects to get more out of the guys who don’t play big minutes, so the supporting group?  Maybe he’s talking about guys like Garland?

Yes, Garland would one I would think. Also Mykheyev, Lazar, Joshua, Dermott, Burroughs and bringing back Podz and Hogs.

If "bite by bite" they can get a system in place where the bottom D pairing can be relied on rather then Myers/ OEL that would be huge... Those guys need to be at 18 min/game to be effective. Same with Hughes averaging 25/ game. Dermott, Stillman, Burroughs would have to make up the minutes. hmmm....

  9. The good

    - Dermott trade- The injuries have thrown him off obviously but a good signing at the time and could be in the near future- C+

    - Mikheyev, Lazar, Aman, and Joshua signings all have been very good or at least decent-  B-

    - Kuzmenko signing was the highlight and he hasn't disappointed. They will probably sign to a long term deal or get a decent return. Either way A+

    - Bear and Pederson Trade - B

    - Boeser Signing- even though he hasn't lived up to his contract extension this year the bridge deal was the best they could do for a player expected to deliver multilple 30 goal seasons.- C+

    Jurys out

    - Miller Extension - He is a polarizing, but impactful player -  The 8M hit is fair considering he history but question the term- C

    The Bad -

    - Stillman trade is a bust so far- Don't see him bringing any value to the blueline- D

    - Playing hardball with Horvat- No one knows the details but they should have had him signed before or very close to Miller signing before the season started - D

    - Poor management of Boudreau, Rachel Doerrie situaton, Lack of communication to the fans, and poor management of the media. - F

The pieces they have added or resigned overall is actually better then expected IMO , but its how they have handle things outside of the players that is concerning.

Whether the team was winning or losing, I have always been proud of how the Canuck Brand is looked at overall compared to other teams. Not feeling that now so hopefully they turn that around with a new coach, trading for some key pieces, and getting in front of situations before they escalate.

    Overall score

    Player movement / signings- B-

    Organizational management - D

Games aren't gonna get any easier for the rest of the month though, every team we play except for San Jose is also in the hunt. The January schedule looks ugly, the February one does too.

And the good old days schedules always looked better being a much better team.

As JR says, we're have the talent but the wrong mix. Changing the mix when you have monster contracts to deal with is a huge challenge.

We don't know where the locker room is at ,but you have to think so many players are wanting a major trade or change to take place just to have some sort of long term direction again.

If they lose a trade involving Brock, Myers or another prime candidate I'm ok with that just to get on "a" track in one direction.

  11. The one player that's hurting this team the most is Myers.

Just imagine if we could unload his contract and invest 6m into a top 4 D man. He can't work within a different structure, take too much time making D decisions on the puck, not aggressive considering his size. Just goes on and on.

His best work was with OEL last year, and it still wasn't up to a high NHL caliber pairing. OEL is already playing pretty solid with Bear, and Hughes and Schenn compliment each well most nights.

If we can't trade him, sit the chaos giraffe and bring back Burroughs as a regular.
