But.... J-Boner provides a lot of speed, mobility with the puck... He's been playing with a lot more confidence now!

And what if Dermott returns too? Still keep Still man and Burroughs up when all the D-men are back healthy?

Rathbone is getting better each game he plays, just like he did last year in the AHL. He hasn't put up points yet and he still needs to suppress chances against.

His top ceiling could be a Samuel Girard type player or... could be a Derek Pouliot. Jurys out still.

But IMO if they somehow land a true top 4 RD that can play tough minutes, Rathbone could be trade bait to land him since they already have their franchise mobile small player in Hughes.

Most definitely see them hanging onto 2 D if all return besides Poolman. If Poolman somehow returns... trades/ waivers are going to happen.

2011 was the better overall team. 1994 had a better final game but also didn't have the extensive list of injuries the 2011 team had. Also that 2011 team was solid for several years while the 1994 was a one playoff wonder and that was it. You believe 94 had the better "team" based on a very small window of games but that 11 team won back to back President Cups and was viewed a contender for 4 years. Hands down 2011 was the better "team".

Although I'm not sure how a 2001/1994 debate applies to Ethan Bear

Yeah first time in over 10 years I've seen a CDC thread go off topic! ::D

The age old argument of 2011 vs 1994. If they played each other with both being healthy who would win. flip a coin, they're both excellent but very different.

I think so. Either Brisebois or Rathbone comes out because Boudreau hates Boner.

Hughes also back soon so should see

    Hughes - Schenn

    OEL- Myers

    Burroughs- Bear

Rathbone may slot in depending on who they're playing

And then fingers crossed Stillman comes back and we're still healthy. What happens with him if Burroughs is still playing as well as he is right now.

Not sure if huggy -bear will be a thing until Bear proves he can play within the Canucks defensive system. If he does that would be an awesome mobile pairing but undersized.

He was never a top-4 guy, though.  Well, not in the traditional sense, anyway.  More like a Poolman in Winnipeg, or how Aaron Rome was for us way back when.

Isn't about time we stop with the lotto tickets and just go out and get the real thing?

He was with Edmonton 2 years ago

    21:58 ATOI #3 , Top 10 in Calder voting

ahead of Larsson, Russell and Green

    Worth the risk.

Yes, in fact only 3 shots in the third if you count that backhand.   Something tells me they are playing to get someone fired.   Not sure who yet - but they can't possibly be this bad. This is starting to stink like when they wanted green out of here last year.

Just think they're confidence level is rock bottom. The losing streak that got Green/ Benning fired probably feels like yesterday so it doesn't take much to get back there IMO.

Add the fact that 4 of their top 6-7 D are out right now just compounds everything.

Now if they can pull off a couple wins with this D, that could really turn the season around especially if Hughes comes back earlier then expected.

If they lose a couple more, have to believe a big trade(s) is coming and BB is fired.

Just when you think this team has reached a new level of futility they go and top it.

I think we all thought the Willie D era was bottom, but we didn’t even have a clue what bottom was…

And the sad thing is they’re trying to win. It would be one thing if they were committed to a rebuild. I’m not sure I’ve seen a team that spends up to and over the cap fail this hard though. A real testament to Benning and his awful management.

Yep , JR and PA are between a rock and hard place with OEL, Myers, Poolman contracts.

What Boudreau said about Carolinas Defense just amplifies where we have gone astray over the past 8 years. Always patching the defense with make work projects, and drafting D men too low on the scale. (except for Hughes)

The last time we had a defense that frightened opposing teams were in 2011 and 1994, not because they were all talented offensively , but that they were a good mix of talent, experience, grit and most importantly depth. Neither of these teams included a franchise D man.

Our existing defense when healthy includes

    1 x  top pairing

    1 x 2nd pairing

5 in the 3rd pairing or AHL caliber. I include Myers here because on a good team he would be a #5 IMO by his overall numbers

Hoglander works hard and has wheels but he is not in control. Not sure if he has the ability to process the game and make the hand eye passes and shots and moves at high speed to be an effective top 6 player. If not he won't make it in the long run.

Is he capable of becoming as good as Cole Caufield or is he Jordan Schroeder?

He's working hard but I liked him when he played with Horvat/ Pearson. A simpler game, is what he thrived on in his first season.

A good hard working third liner could be his ceiling.

Hoping I eat my words of course.

To me, a jersey toss is a tantrum...something a kid would do if things weren't going his/her way.

Frustration is very much warranted....but this sends a message that looks bad on our city (not just the team). Entitlement is right.

Agree. I mean I get the frustration. Everyone's frustrated but what does a jersey toss accomplish besides throwing away good money. You think the players don't feel the same frustration x 10?

We know this is good team and deserves to be a the very least a 500 team so far this season. They've outplayed the apposing teams most games overall but still have to tidy up in their own end.

We'll get Hughes back tomorrow (hopefully) and maybe 1 more NHL D which will make a difference and when they start winning everyone can take a deep breath and enjoy the show.

Not sure if there's a practice today but hopefully it's optional, so players can reflect , stay off social media, and pull it together for a fresh take come Monday.
