Sure, but, I just think there’s something “off” about those amongst the faithful who are actively wringing their hands in anticipation of seeing Tocchet shown the door after a mere half season. Same goes for those who actually complained when the team started winning and playing the right way (mostly) once he and his staff were in the fold.

Another CDC pipe dream bites the dust. -
You don’t have any clue what my age is. So, please don’t try to son me. And, I think you’re fooling yourself if you really believe there was a swell of “Seattle/Oregon Canucks fans…who lived and died with with us before they got a team.” I’m thinking the only “West Coast loyalty” from Vancouver-to-Portland is towards the Seahawks, not Canucks.

I’ve never been a Mariner fan, so, I honestly have no idea what club is considered their main rival. But, I’m pretty sure it isn’t the team that came into the league the same year they did in ‘77. That would be ridiculous if they were, seeing as they’re 3 time zones away. And, even with the Sonics gone, I STILL don’t pay any attention to the Portland Trail Blazers. It’s not that I dislike them, but, more that I just don’t care they’re down there. Never have. That’s not the team the Sonics had tough battles with. When the Seahawks were in the AFC, they had legitimate beef with Denver, not manufactured. I think the Kraken and their fans zeroed-in on Vancouver as a built-in Cascadia rival to create a sense of legitimacy for themselves and so they could maybe appear more knowledgeable as a franchise and a hockey city. Now, there IS a legitimate rivalry between the MLS Sounders and Whitecaps, but, that dates back decades to the NASL. I’m genuinely hoping the Kraken lose game 7. Not because I pull for the Canucks, but, because the last thing I want to be surrounded by is a city of obnoxious Seattle sports fans.

I’m a Canuck fan since the early ‘90’s who’s from/lives in Seattle (except for 1999-2020 in Los Angeles), and am seeing both sides of that. I did a lot of cringing when the Kraken were unveiled, due to hockey fans in Seattle chirping about a “natural rivalry” with the Canucks. My typical response to that was to ask how much of a natural rivalry was there between the SuperSonics and Grizzlies. Personally, I never paid any attention at all to the Grizzlies whilst they were located in Vancouver, and I didn’t know any Sonics fan who did. By contrast, I found it annoying and odd to hear people in Seattle talking about a Kraken “natural rivalry” with the Canucks, even though there’s no history between the 2 franchises. Rivalries are something that cannot be manufactured. If there’s any dislike from Kraken fans towards the Canucks, I struggle to understand where that could possibly come from, seeing as the Canucks were considered the home team for Seattle NHL fans up until 2 years ago.

I’m not so sure about Stillman. He’s already reached journeyman status at age 25. Meaning, it’s not just Vancouver that has decided he wasn’t a good fit. He’s lucky he’s back with the club that originally scouted and drafted him. Maybe they know him best and have a better idea of what group he can excel with. I don’t necessarily think that’s an indictment of the Canucks as an organisation. And, let me guess: by “others” you specifically mean Motte, right? If so, he’s another one who didn’t really move me as “a franchise cornerstone” (GMJB-speak) going forward, and, I don’t think his ceiling is much higher than he’s already shown.

Ex-NBA’r J.R. Smith is also hitting the links professionally now, I think.

Time will tell. But, Chicago’s a long way out from “another cup dynasty”, with or without Bedard. I just hope the kid doesn’t collapse under the weight of carrying massive expectations and turn out to be another Eichel.
