  1. First, I guess CanucksArmy can't screw this up basically giving basic information. Second, I hope he rents there during the season and heads back when it's over, he's not going to like TO, it really isn't the center of the universe as they think and it SUCKS as bad as the Laff's. I managed to live a full year there and couldn't wait to get back to b.c. What an awful place to live, atm I'd almost live in Ukraine first and take my chances on being bombed rather than living in TO again.
  2. News flash, almost any player has to be overpaid to play here, this hasn't changed in 40 years and it's not going to stop anytime soon. The answer has always been build a team not buy a team, but not us. If it actually happened and that's a big IF, we might actually have a team that's not a tease to watch and knowing where it's going to go, nowhere. Be quite the change to see building actually becoming normal here for a change. Patience actually does pay off but not if you keep selling the farm and get nowhere, a boatload of patience won't even help. It's never going to work. People need to quit dreaming some miracle cup winning season and that's it, some of us want a consistent shot every year instead. I get that I'm in the minority of fans who want that but whatever, I'm 40 years past being patient with a depthless one trick pony that everyone else wants. No thanks...
  3. He seemed pretty big on himself ego-wise so he got brought back down to earth pretty fast.
  4. Forgot about him "on purpose" Anyway yeah that was another big one... I don't know what it is about Vancouver but our overall luck with all sorts of things from the lottery to freak accidents, we've had it all, things good happening? Here and there yeah BUT usually it's SUCKED!! Swear we're cursed...
  5. There really wasn't much popularity in very many players back then, we sucked! BAD! Like really bad. Normal for newer teams though back then, a lot more than today by a large margin. I'll point to Vegas as an example, no way a newbie team back then ends up a powerhouse off the start, just wouldn't happen.
  6. Yeah me too... All the talent a player could want to play in this league but leaves his brains in neutral and then reverse. I had to laugh when he said he was going to take on more leadership stuff with the younger ones.. I was like.. oh yeah? As f'n if only!! How's Europe? I was pretty stoked on all the talent in Federov, yet same thing, head problems. But Loui is king of the heap, how badly one player that had boatloads of talent just disappear, is something that still has me perplexed especially the last game of the twins where he played like a madman all over the ice like he owned it and almost scored a hatty. Then back to zero, like wtf? I bet JB was losing his _hit over it, I know I was, I yelled at him through a screen just a fewwwww times, "MOVE IT you lazy _ucker like you MEAN it" Now every time his name comes up just a tad bit of rage tugs at me inside so when I read for the first time he was gone?! FIST PUMP!!! No kidding...
  7. Hmmm.. I agree with most of that BUT Horvat saying that after just getting it together in the last 3 after being inconsistent for 5 except for D capabilities and labelled a career 3rd liner at one point until he finally broke out. He knew he was on a team that had to wait out long term contracts and then go into full rebuild mode after retooling to get the best out of what was left that helped fill the stands. He had to know, I don't know what to say to that especially at his pay grade, it was worth the wait, and there's worse ways, Vancouver is awesome to live in IF you can afford it and he can so sorry but I'm not feeling it... What I'am feeling is how ownership and management have reacted to win a single cup and throw away the farm TRYING to get it rather than demanding a rebuild and endure the pain until it's over and be in the running for one year in and year out like the elite teams do. The media is the absolute worst, bush league feeding on fans reactions and stoking it up for clickbait or readership in whatever form. Then fans make noise and demand that ONE cup instead of repeat ELITE.. yeah buy a roster and sell the farm... YAWN... Grrrrr, like that has ever f'n worked, we need ownership on down with a set of balls. Wouldn't that be a switch? Well if Aquaman grows a set and JR and AL do the upgrades and bring in more depth, and not let anyone's b.s. get in the way of doing it right and finishing off a rebuild and stock depth to step in when necessary and have competition to keep players honest to keep their spots by having to out perform on a consistent basis so they don't lose their roster spot. Will it happen?! Idfk.. I'm not holding my breath on anything anymore with this team. That ship sailed years and years ago.
  8. They can easily out do Gillis, Gillis didn't have any depth and not enough time to develop any with the core as old as it was, and now there's a lot more hockey players to choose from as well but if we sell the farm again, we'd be just as screwed but Mgmt says their not so we'll see... but don't be shocked if trades are made that people don't like, they don't need to go overboard anyway, just toughen up the team and D depth and we're fine and every year after we slowly have our own players coming in on ELC'S and have quality call ups when injuries hit and we don't lose games because of it which has plagued us for forever not having depth. How cool would that be for the first time in Canucks history? That would almost be weird to get used to...
  9. When I stopped laughing, now thinking to myself, why do people forget what exactly was happening with our team and the laughable part is Gillis at the time locking in a boatload of long term no trade contracts like candy but still just a good roster which got exposed when the B's got at us, and disaster struck. Down goes Hamhuis from a botched hipcheck attempt and Tanev injured too and with YET again, no depth to step in. Spelled doom AGAIN! Blaming Benning for coming in and try and take a broken team handcuffed by contracts up the ying yang to get rid of and try to plug holes and slowly upgrade keeping people in the stands (ie extending the Sedins) who brought in fans, having to upgrade while trading picks to do it until every last one was gone and it took years and years for everyone off the books including Luongo who Gillis left us to deal with = re-tool, there was no other choice and wait contracts out, plug holes and wait for picks your finally able to keep build a new core and we have that! Do you not remember how many teams we beat in a row last year?! before we ran out of gas and out a top 4 Dman for most of it, because JB got us Demko we almost made it last season. A Stanley cup is one thing but so is having enough depth is another to run at it deep EVERY year and all that's left is development of current picks and more of them. Saying Benning screwed us up is funny, Gillis did the most but not on purpose. no GM including Gillis can circumvent contract law so under those circumstances, no.. just no... retool then rebuild and grow the farm for ELC's, there was zero choice in any of that because the timing for paying the core more to market value and no cap increases, I'm surprised JB was able to get us this far and this close for JR to do some moves, keep every pick unless a steal shows up that you have to go for (JT Miller) and upgrade with depth in the system not trades. If JB screwed us up so bad we wouldn't be this close. Yeah he could have done better in some cases but overall how can you say a team in transition coming out of years of locked contracts go from projected coming in dead last in the and no hope of even being competitive.. well that was 2017.. 5 years later still just st the edge of the rebuild complete, we suck at the start for a lot of different reasons but then go on winning streak and almost make it into the playoffs. No messed up team does that...
  10. Wtf Alf? There's no way Gillis gets us to the finals if he did it right, if we had more depth on that run we might have pulled it off but he had to sell the farm to do it and as I remember when Hammer went down and one other top 4 D we had (Edler or Tanev) think Tan but that's where trying to win a single cup gets you. He, like Benning, didn't have the time to have depth AND a roster, we simply were not in a position for it. Plain and simple, IF at that time 2012, there were next to no long term contracts then this team would not be in the shape it is NO MATTER who was GM. That was NOT the case, at all and any GM would have had to wait until contracts were over to get rid of a broken team and build another one but it couldn't be done right away. You can't just circumvent contract law, we've been screwed a long time because of the former way of buying a "season" team with next to no depth. So at the end of the day, say JR and AL cane to us in 2013, they have had the same problem staring them in the face and I doubt that they would take the job in the first place. Pretty sure you know all this Alf, or maybe you didn't think of the shi*show that's been going on since day one UNTIL someone had the balls to try and keep seats full by being competitive even though your hands are tied by the situation your in AND try to build a team too but first upgrade the roster and add depth second, it's not rocket science but because SOMEONE finally tried it, for ONCE we might have a team that could contends every year, not a depthless run once every 10-15 years and people wonder why that is... Hmmm..
  11. It's going to be an interesting season no matter how it starts but I believe that JR will grab us some grit because he knows if we don't, the division we're in will eat us for lunch. My biggest question mark is Klim, yeah he is the opitomy of the style we need. Built solid and a edge, and perfectionistic which makes a pretty good mix. If we bring in other players like that and we HAVE to balance us. Well one can hope right?! However if it plays out and Hogs and Garland get traded they have to be upped in sized with the same style but big enough to level someone to physically take the puck instead of being on the other end. Don't get me wrong, I love both players, especially Garland but I doubt their on the club like even Dickie gone, I think he might be bought out or salary retained in a trade or whatever. Things are going to look different next year but not by a ton, as much as people don't like it, JB got us this close and I'll be disappointed beyond belief if JR can't pull the simple upgrades and some additional depth until other younger players progress to see if we can't bring more in ELC's to help. We'll see...
  12. It started a long time before 2012 RU, it's been since the 70's the best we ever had was no depth one trick ponies. No one ever was willing to even TRY until 2012, that was the start of turning things around FOR A CHANGE. It never happened before that, not even once. Always a decent roster with zero depth if that. However our media and game callers have been up to the task of being even more useless. Funny thing is, people still believe them and their opinionated fantasy bullshi* ideas of the same old $&!#e for the last 40 years. Then what's even funnier is people who listen to them come to the boards here and chirp what they heard from the media as if it were the gospel truth... Omg I'm not sure if they ever have the slightest clue on how utterly stupid they make themselves look but it's always good for a laugh! I laugh the hardest at the JT Miller bit.. THAT was hilarious!
  13. If most fans can't even fact check the "opinions" of said morons, there's no way in hell media would ever be called out and boycotted and making it public would ever happen. HOWEVER!!! Good on you for thinking for yourself, that's the problem with most. Too lazy or afraid to think for themselves and see if something is legit. Happy to see people aware of the problem in the first place, been going on so long and tapped into the sell the farm for a no depth roster parrotted on and on by them and fans get behind without realizing a real contending every year team that has a chance at a cup, building with depth is a lot better than a depthless one trick pony roster and we all know how well that's worked for us but they don't care. Never have...
  14. That was the point... You have zero sense of humour? But add that and Canucks luck and that means trouble! CURSED I tell ya!
  15. Yeah and guess who drafted him out of DePaul? He turned into a Red demon! The Bulls were arguably the luckiest team in the NBA to land him.
  16. Well a lot of that has to do from fans obsessed with winning one so badly (for years) and management too. Sell the farm for a roster with no depth, yes it truly sucks! Amazing what real fans with put up with for so long. (Ponders hearing Lever's name on the radio during games when he was playing) Before we got the absolute luxury of a 14" black and white TV with antenna to move around so we could get CBC, damn we were spoiled! Lmao! Actually I remember when our small town got a dish and we got WGN Chicago and watched a guy who was playing for the DePaul blue demons and he looked pretty good, kind of thought he was NBA material maybe? Who is this new guy named Micheal Jordon? Lmao!
  17. News Flash ma'am, the Caps have NOTHING on us! Made me wonder if JR helps us get a elite team together to get a cup but we still run into this part that makes one wonder even further that Vancouver can ever get a cup and I wonder if Bettman laughs at the thought? Deb, don't kill me but I picture you in that pic with your Canucks jersey on!
  18. The other problem occurs when one sees the boneheads who write said "interest" Lots are STILL saying we need forwards. BULLSHI.. we don't need scoring, we can do that. Keeping it out of our net is something we do need. Plus especially when bottom 6 forwards are a dime a dozen. If we're going to trade and draft, then doing it wisely for the need is obviously D, we need depth at D which I thought everyone could see but the clickbait b.s. continues. Bottom 6 forwards are an easy fill that isn't a big deal but they could use size and toughness. I had to laugh the way some media jumped on how JR said we weren't a playoff team yet. What he meant was, we can get into the playoffs, we just couldn't get far. Thought again, it would be obvious. Appearantly, it doesn't take much to sports write, just a opinion. I've actually seen more intelligent, well thought out writings on the CDC then on the online sports pages and reg media. Good for a laugh though.
  19. Let's get some D depth, scoring forwards are easier to get, Defense not so much. Anyway, hope people have fun with this.
  20. Oh yeah ummm.. you know, as a Canucks fan the last time I let myself get excited about a player was Bure, and believe it or not Tryamkin, especially the way Train "threw" around bigger than average Dallas star players like they were Ragdolls but I digress, in Klim case, I expect him to make a serious run at the roster depending on how he works this off-season. If I'm Klim, I'm working my a$$ off and make a splash when he arrives on the scene. Anyway, I have my fingers crossed for this kid, he really does remind me of OV, his skating and shot are very similar, and I like how strong on his skates he is. If Abby coaching screws this kid up I'll be one very pi$$ed fan. All he needs is honing via NHL level speed to get a taste and hone inside his head like JV didn't. Has all it takes to make it but was a solid pick. I'd have done the same. IF he knocks it out of the park, it'll be something to see. I see a bigger Podz in him.. well maybe a bit meaner but he's big enough to back it up.
  21. I can't see why Klim wouldn't be there unless he's training with some others as in nhl'ers. Oh and I'm biased towards bigger players, I'm so beyond tired of watching Smurf teams like ours get beat on.
  22. Still the guy has a lot of skill and it takes awhile to acclimate to teams and we're still a fairly new team overall but as he settles in he'll get better and better, and back to his old self BUT that being said, he did something not all top line dmen do, after someone (can't remember his name) went after Hughes with a dirty hit and OEL went nuclear and went after the player who did it. Having that in a top 6 Dman either way is nothing but good for us, we're still a soft team. We need guys like Myers and OEL who will push back, not just skate away. That, in itself, is something we as a Canuck team have lacked and we've paid for it dearly. People quickly forget about that and same with how rough the playoffs get. Intangibles are what Cup teams have a lot in their players and that's what gets them there. "WE" can't afford soft anymore, a fun to watch soft season team is something we're all sick of, from the Rat on the Twins and shots at Petey, Brock and Bo were often were let go and that does nothing but say it's fine to do that and you'll keep getting away with it. We've gotten somewhat better but still a ways to go.
  23. Can't say I blame him, I like limes in water....
