It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some questions can be. Or how some can get the answer wrong.
Hockey is the only sport, the rest are just games.

Sign Volchenkov or/and Hamhuis.......theres no way we would ever be able to trade for Weber, he's the heart of Nashville.

This is why the OP made this a hypothetical Situation.

But Weber by a long shot, hes a superstar defenceman and still has a ton of growiing to do. What it would take to get him.

Raymond(when signed), 1-2 top prospects, a younger top six forward and probably next years first round pick.
(Bieksa is useless to them, Have you seen their defensive prospects!)

I want them both and that would be a fairly realistic dream.

Hamhuis as a UFA...say 4.5M and I'd give up nearly anyone except Luongo or the Sedins. Hodgson, Schroeder, Kesler,....you name it for Weber. It doesn't matter what we did last year, we instantly improve with Weber as our #1 d-man.
Blessed is the man who, having nothing to stay, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact.

If its a choice between signing Hamhuis without giving up anything or trading away everything including the kitchen sink for Weber... I'll take Hamhuis.

I know alot of people on this board like Weber, lets say Nashville made Weber available
Would you sign UFA Hamhuis for 4.5 mill or trade a bunch of assets for Weber (also makes 4.5 mil)?

Easily Weber. That is the kind of guy we need.

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."

i can see them trading away weber , resigning hamhius , they still have a bunch of Good D prospects like Ryan ellis , jon Blum , Cody Franson. along with Ryan sutter. so getting weber for raymond and a 1st would be realistic

Hmmm....

Hamhuis without giving up ANYTHING

or Weber and give up half our future.

Weber is obviously the better player, but Hamhuis is the logical choice to make.

This.

as been previously posted, I am surprised at this question... This is the biggest no-brainer. I think should have been nominated for the Noris, I would take him over ANY defense man in the League. Hard shot, Hits hard, and is young enough to be around for a long time (plus, he hasn't hit his prime)

Weber would be the better choice for sure. Nashville has money problems so they may want to dump some salary for cheaper players coming back. So I'd trade Raymond, 1st pick and a prospect (ie Andersson or Sauve). It gives Nashville a roster player and defensive prospects plus a 1st round pick.

Weber makes 4.5 for only one more year, and then he'll be demanding over 6 on a super-long deal.

Still, he's one of the top D-men in the league. It all depends what the "bunch of assets" are that you have to trade for him.

Webers a franchise Dman who is offensice, deffensive and physical. I wouldnt mind trading half our future for him. Adding Webber to a dcore of ehrhof and edler plus or forwards would makes us deadly, but does gillis has the guts to give up on his picks

Hamhuis...we just have to cough up the cash....!!
Weber...He is one of their ,if probably their best player..and completely unavailable...a complete fantasy..he's about as available as Duncan Keith.

It's more of a matter of being willing to give up on Kesler. Because he would be needed to facilitate the deal, and clear enough cap space.

Weber only makes 4.5 now, but next year he'll be asking for over 6. You can't have 5 guys making over 5 million (Sedin, Sedin, Kesler, Luongo...+ Weber?) and still flesh out a decent complimentary roster. Chicago has 6 guys in that category for next season (Toews, Kane, Hossa, Campbell, Keith and Huet), and they're already over the cap. Even if they dump Huet in the minors, other good players have to go.

So for those who covet Weber, do you have enough faith in Hodgson to trade Kesler for Shea?

weber is obviously the better choice but we would have to give up raymond + defenceman + top prospect + high pick.hamhuis on the other hand, comes without giving up our future. but then again you all GM's have to make a bold move like this to get a legit number one d-man which i think every contender needs.

Weber by a mile. Weber is bigger, stronger, younger and has a more complete game than Hamhuis.

I'd trade assets for Weber all day long.

He who gets the best player in a deal, wins the trade, and Weber is better than anyone on the Nuck's who is tradeable. He's world class.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some questions can be. Or how some can get the answer wrong.

this is not about who is the better Dman, that is obvious
hamhuis is a free agent - will not cost any assets to get him
weber on the other will probably cost around what pronger was dealt for

In my mind Hamhuis is one of the top defensemen in the league. But Weber IS the top defenseman in the league.

EDIT: Just realized how old this thread is. Kinda interesting to read actually.
