Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Hat Trick Maker

I have not tried out that mod. Sounds interesting though.

The crossbows come from the Dawnguard DLC. They make for a more powerful but slower archery option, as you would expect.

I don't think I will. It seems like there would be many issues with the... mechanics. I saw a decapitating mod (arms, etc), but how limbs were lopped off just looked dumb.

Xbows are from Dawnguard. They're quite powerful for their first shot and the projectile speed is faster than bows, but the reload is really slow, so it's kind of a one-shot thing and then charging in with melee.

Speaking of which, finished Dawnguard the other day, and the entire backstory of the Falmer was really interesting, and rather tragic. The Snow Elves were really interesting, I thought.

Sounds nice.

Unfortunately I have YET to experience it despite owning it since Christmas  I'm just slow

"I always hated crossbows. Takes too long to load!"

I'd post the video, but, you know, Game of Thrones action scene is pretty much instant warning from a mod

What level are you guys?

I'm 67 right now, almost 68. I think it's easier to level at higher levels if you originally start out as a mage as opposed to a warrior.

I'm only at 77 (but near 78), despite putting in 400 hours into the game. I've mentioned this before in the thread, but I've avoided using exploits to level up for the sake of leveling up. Just use certain skills when called upon, or in an otherwise basic model. Like right now I'm running around with Dragon bone heavy armour and a two handed sword, because I want to push those up to a 100 by legitimately fighting with them (but I do hate those, maybe I should find an exploit, lol.)

The only skill I have that's below 80 at the moment is pickpocketing, at 76. Everything is nearing maxed out potential.

Holy crap, haha, you guys are nuts.

My highest level character is what, maybe 60-something? She's a thief/assasin sneaky-type so all of her magic skills are completely unused and around 20 (leveled a bit from reading books, lol).

I also don't do a ton of pickpocketing (steal from the rich, good-aligned thief type of character) so that's not at 100 either.

Sneak, Lockpicking, 1-Handed, Block, Light Armor, Archery, Smithing, Alchemy, Enchanting are all at 100.

I don't pickpocket much either. There's only certain characters I hate that I made a point of pickpocketing, lol. Otherwise I paid that beggar lady in Windhelm to teach me the skill. I gave her so much money that I don't understand how she's still on the streets, lol. By the time I maxed out at level 75, she should have been able to afford a nice house beside mine.

The skills for me that naturally reached 100 without me having to go out of my way to take it there, were Light Armour, One handed, Conjuration, Speech, Lockpicking, and blocking sort of (I opted to go for dual wielded swords as a permanent thing before I actually hit 100)

Pick pocketing is such an awesome skill and it raises so easily. Basically a must for any of my rogue/assassin type characters with its weight cap increase and being able to steal objects that people have equipped is just funny. Great for making money if you a part of the thieves guild at the beginning of the game.

I am going to start a new game soon since now I have both major DLCs just need to get the proper motivation for what kind of character I want.

My one dislike of the game is that crafted items are better then found artifacts. I literally have to consciously gimp myself to keep the game challenging.

I prefer the New Vegas model for weapons. Example: I can buy a scope, extended mags and silencer for my Varmint rifle and do well with it, but if I get off my butt and explore the Broc Flower cave, I can obtain the Unique Ratslayer which is a better version of the modded Varmint. You should have a good reason to explore and adventure.

So all my builds are specifically set up to omit at least one if not all crafting skills just to nerf some personal balance. Minor complaint, the rest of the game is excellent.

If the found weapons were the best in the game, nobody would bother smithing and enchanting (and using alchemy to a lesser extent), though, thus making those skills useless.

There's still a ton of reasons why you would want to adventure and explore. If the side quests and the stories associated with them aren't a good reason for you to explore, then I don't know what to say.

Did the lack of smithing/enchanting ruin your Fallout experience? (if you had one)

I am not saying to take it out, I just don't like that it's the ultimate option. I like the option to be able to improve my weapons like dawnbreaker via smith. What I don't like is how Dawnbreaker is vender trash compared to a crafted Daedric Sword with a fire and lightning enchant that I can make without ever leaving whiterun. It's one thing to be able to make gear that fills some holes, another all together that not making that gear reduces your power. Sure, I play for the story, but also the rewards of loot that improves my character.

So you must have been a mage originally then, right?

Hmm. I think I've run into a bug.

I try to get new Companions quests, but I can't. I completed the most recent quest but I can't get a new one from Farkas, or Aela, they keep telling me to speak to Vilkas, who had already acknowledged I completed it. I guess I can't get rid of lycanthropy any other way? Because that's my ultimate goal here.

I'll look it up later unless you guys know what to do about this.

Was first a warrior with a sword and shield. Then switched to dual sword wielding afterwards (The "kill them quickly before they can kill you" option.) Dual wielding is still my favourite option of attack.

Yeah, that is a common bug. The "Purity" quest is one of the most annoying bugs. You need to probably reset it using console commands, but it will break some stuff, lol.

Well, Fallout was different. No smithing/enchanting.

Clearly it comes down to preference. Finding the named unique weapons was great for Fallout (which I played a lot of, and loved, btw) but they took Skyrim in a different direction, obviously.

If you have dawnguard becoming a vampire lord (curable) will cure lycanthopy

Not sure where you are at. If you just helped Vilkas clear out the last of the silver hand, you should be on your way to to help cleanse the harbringer. If you did all that, then make Alea a follower and talk to farkas and that might clear it up.

That's one beef I have with Skyrim. There are a lot of bugs in the game they didn't find and haven't seem to address in updates. Skjor showing up in the hall even though he was killed by the silver hand is another one I've encountered. I had to console command to get rid of him.

I last helped with some side quest by rescuing a peasant from bandits and escorting her to Windhelm. The quest is marked as complete as I had to return to Vilkas for to be complete but I can't get any new quests from anyone else in the hall. It's as if I didn't do the mission and they keep telling me to complete the quest for him.

Strange. How do you get your magic skills near max? I'm a warrior too. But if I ever actually tried using magic in combat, I would get slaughtered. I don't have the magicka for any powerful attacks since I used my points for health and stamina. The only way I can improve my magic skills is through a trainer.
