At least Schneider and Lack are less likely to pull a choke job against Chicago, and Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The reason vancouver is considered a goalie graveyard is because we get reasonably to immensly talented goalies, expect them to win the jennings, vezina, and stanley cup in the first 2 years they are here, and as soon as that doesnt happen, the fans/media belittle them and show absolutely no confidence therefore turning them into head cases and inevitably ruining their game. Luongo is not the cure to the goalie graveyard, but he will be the greatest goalie destroyed by fans that expect way too much. Since luongo has gotten here he has won the jennings, been nominated for the vezina twice, and been to the stanley cup finals, and yet he gets the most disrespect.

There is no one else to blame but the fans/media.

cause both those goalies today if they were starters could even take us to the playoffs?
Their is a reason gillis is not waiving or doing anything to luongo because come off season Gillis might still want a job with vancouver

kirk mclean was loved by canucks fan and always will be because he is not a head case like luongo.
Heres why we loved kirk:
kirk never gave up on the puck and let people just score 3 or 4 consecutive goals in a period.
kirk never asked for a salary contract that front loaded him with 10 million dollars per year (overpayment).
kirk never expected other goalies to "pump his tires".
kirk didn't have problems with breakaways.

Cory schneider is a lot like Kirk and will be even better in today's NHL.

I really wouldn't include Noronen, Essensa, Whitmore or Hedberg in that list. Maybe Auld either. They were back-ups and really didn't get the same kind of attention or pressure that the number one goalie did.

Cloutier also had a great run as a Canuck. Sure it ended fairly badly, but he set several team records along the way.

I would say the goalie gaveyard era began after McLean left and ended with Cloutier's arrival.

But we are the reason Luongo is a head case(example last night)
You dont think Cory would become one as well?? unless he can manage a 82-0 season he will get the same treatment as luongo

Luongo is a good goal and was an elite goaltender. With someone with his work ethic and going to the rink and practicing every day he shouldn't be allowing soft goals behind the net every other game, I do realize soft goals will happen. But ever since the groin injury 3 years ago? He hasn't had the same movement or fight that he once had. Luongo will put up 30 plus wins every year no doubt but you never know what Luongo will show up. Look at the cup finals what games are people going to remember most the games where he shut out Boston or the game where he let in 5 plus questionable goals?

Wow, that's a very unlucky streak of goalies who are all mentally weak. I'm sure it was the fans and media that really broke them down. They shouldn't be professional athlete's if they can't take critism.

And i'm willing to bet Luongo didn't cry himself to sleep last night over a Bronx Cheer.

Okay Cloutier and Weekes couldn't bring a sandwich from the kitchen to the living room without dropping it on the floor. So I never expected them to bring the cup to Vancouver, and also half of those goalies who came to Vancouver were well out of there prime, and era. Potvin, Essensa, Irbe were all stand up goalies, and when they came to Vancouver it was 10 years later when the stand up era was the way the game played. Also if you really looked at in a more constructive way, you would see that maybe getting a greater value trade out of Loungo now then wait 2 to 3 years when he's passing his prime and end up with a 2nd round pick or a 3rd rounder. I would rather have Cory any day of the week, he's young, he has the passion, and he never started his career with two of the worst teams. I think if were going to win the cup Cory is the better choice, he already knows what is expected of himself and what the fans expect. He out plays Loungo most nights; this is a guy who will sit for a large of amount of games and gets thrown into action and just out performs everyone else. If you did that with Loungo he would end up shelling out 15 + goals and blame it on bright lights.

How are we the reason he's a headcase? Having a good mental state is part of being an elite athlete, if Luongo is an elite athlete he shouldn't care about what the fans think. Tim Thomas went through a similar situation and never ever let it get to him.
