I really want this even though I haven't had a PS since the original console, but that price is a bit steep. Hoping for a price drop a la 3DS, but not counting on it.

these things are built for girly hands. i had a psp once and sold it as soon as i noticed the analog stick was starting to F up. not interested in shelling out $200+ for a "joystick" even though I could afford it.

It looks pretty damn sweet, even if I have absolutely no intention of buying one.

Reading the joystiq review sounds like the typical sony trend in motion...
Beautiful, powerful system with too big of a price tag, featuring gimmicky functionality that ultimately dies out due to it's lack of enjoyment or overall purpose.
*cough* six axis

I own a PS3. I enjoy it. But it's the truth.

Getting a PSP is the way to go any, I get free PSP, PS1, as well as any gameboy game made before the DS, I also have things like an ebook reader on it. It is an incredibly useful device now that people have learned to edit it. Not to mention it will be dirt cheap with the new vita coming out.

Sony has only ever marketed one console that fits your description and, while I am skeptical of the Vita as well, I think the Vita really has a chance to be big. Just look at the launch titles and compare them to those that were launched with the PSP. Uncharted, FIFA, Wipeout, Little Deviants, ModNation Racers, Escape Plan, Lumines, etc. Unlike the PSP, the Vita doesn't lack quality games, so I don't see it having the same problems as the PSP.

The bigger question is: is there still a market for this (with iPhones offering a far cheaper, more portable alternative)?

That's what everyone said about the PS3 when it came out.

I owned the PSP when I was younger, was really neat but quickly got boring. I've heard great reviews for this thing especially many people saying its far better then the DS.

But in the end I won't be getting one, if I'm on the go I'll just grab my Ipod or Blackberry.

On a side note, looks great for shooters. Graphics are PS3 graphics with the two analog stick and the back touch pad it seems like a perfect duo for a shooter.

How does the 3G work on this? Do you just pay monthly or something and you get internet everywhere you go?

Yep, not sure who the provider is in Canada though... It's AT&T in the States.

I'm a fan of the massive touch screen but the battery life and lack of "pocketablilty" hurt its appeal.
The 3DS has the same fingerprint problem, so another crappy "Trend" there.

I will probably get one down the road, assuming there aren't any major bugs with the device. Also, I'd like to see a few more RPG titles before I bite the bullett on it.

Just too many games now and in the next few months for this to occupy my time.

I'll probably get one later down the road.

I have no reason to buy the Wifi version either, I'd rather get the 3G. 3G I could go online anywhere....and even use the big screen as an internet browser. For Wifi I'd have to be at home or at a McDonalds or something. If I'm at home, I would rather be playing my PS3 online anyways.

If this gets NHL I'll buy it FOR SURE. :P

I'm kind of annoyed that the VIta gets it's own exclusive Uncharted game. Now for Uncharted fans like me....there's no choice other than to buy the Vita if you want to get the experience.

There is a new Lumines coming for the Vita too.....and boy do I love those games.

I dont get it really. It wont fit in my pocket so if I have to have a pack with me anyways i would carry my tablet instead anyday. I get that its size is a problem as everyone wants as big a screen as possible and tons of features but if they had made the device just slightly smaller to add to its portability it would have a use for me. As is it doesnt.

slightly smaller plus NHL would have sold it.

It plays game better than any tablet on the market, especially since it has real buttons and Uncharted, MNR, FIFA, WipeOut and eventually COD and LBP.

Still, I'm going to wait to see if it takes off before coughing up $300 for a console that could face a similar fate to my PSP (sitting on a shelf, unloved, collecting dust because of a complete lack of games).

I'm going to wait for Final Fantasy X's remake on Vita to come out, and then I'll get the console. Hopefully it'll be cheaper then...

Or I'll wait for an RPG game that I'll like and get it.

Apparently the battery life sucks though.

A device with the specifications such as the vita, you'd expect it to have a decent web browser, but it sucks.

On my way to work, there was a booth at metro specifically for the PS Vita. I'll admit one thing: The touch screen on the back makes for some pretty fun little games.

What kind of things do they use the back touch screen for??
