RUPERTKBD
Hard to suspend a guy who won't be playing next year.. what team is going to pick him up now that he's a UFA? He's probably played his last NHL game, I'm just glad the elbow didn't connect and take Kesler out,
inglishmagor
The league needs to send a message to it's players Attempt to injure is attempt to injure and the rest of the league needs to understand that it will be punished, whether or not it has any real effect on Hordichuk's career. Thrill-House
Raffi Torres received a penalty for an "attempted" charge last year. That was a pretty blatant elbow. Luckily Kesler dodged it.
KING ALBERTS
i think it deserves a phone call at most... like "hey pal, you elbowing kesler on the last game of the season is the last thing we want to worry about this week.. smarten up"

hijacker
Why suspend him, he probably won't play in the NHL next year anyways. LOL
Bar_Down16
Probably a phone call... if you want to go crazy a fine? Regardless it was attempt to injure a star player, who's team is a favourite to go deep in the playoffs. Gutless.

LeanBeef
I saw Bitz challenge Hordi-chicken twice last night after that incident and he "chickened" out .. what game you watchin', Willis??
enterin
I'm a little surprised there is no topic on the elbow Hordichuk threw at Kesler and missed. PJ Stock brought it up in the intermission and thought there should be a suspension for the first few games of next season. I'm curious if people think he should be punished for a dangerous play that did not make contact. I think it is a great case in that it highlights that players action and does not take into account the consequences of that action. It also took place in a mean nothing game for the Oilers and is at a time of the year the league can easily turn the page on the incident and no one will remember it happened in 3 days. Should it be looked at? Will it be looked at?
enterin
The NHL has never suspended on intent, so it's not happening. As an aside, I don't understand this hate on Zack Kassian and this massive hard-on (for the lack of a better word) for Byron Bitz. What has Bitz done in the past two games he's played? Absolutely nothing. Zack Kassian saw the Sedins were getting a hard time from Brad Staubitz, he goes after Staubitz. Hordichuk misses on a flying elbow to the head of Kesler, Bitz does nothing. Not even a response physically or emotionally. "Oh, well, you don't want Bitz to break a hand or something." It's called removing Hordichuk's helmet and you're a role player, you break your hand protecting the team's star players. It's your role.
darkpoet
What about attempted murder? I can make analogies too.
darkpoet
intent to injure is part of the criteria for handing out suspensions when an actual injury happens it should also be considered when an injury doesn't happen.
darkpoet
They call it a car 'accident' for a reason. If there is enough proof, a premeditated act (whether accomplished or not) is still a criminal offense.

Chong69
He missed. Would you support new laws punishing people for "almost" getting into a car accident?
beer&meat
No it shouldn't! why??? I'm sorry but that is beyond ridiculous. You can't punish someone for something that DIDN'T HAPPEN.
Islandboss
What hordi did wasn't a accident. If you go aim a gun at a cop and miss your still in big trouble.Darci aimed his elbow at Kesler and missed. Nothing in the scenario relates at all to a accident.Only way it could be a accident if skating with your elbows at ear level and chicken at 45 degree angle was needed in hockey .It was a clear attempt to injure a player. On top of that seasons over for them,no playoffs ,nothing left [even though that aspect should never factor into equation] and there was nothing even close to being a hockey play in what he attempted. On the previous posts if you attempt a crime and fail it's still a crime.

Nucks fan in TO
I was all ready to flame the OP because this sounds a lot like the typical Canuck fan whining...but you know what? Hordichuk was lining up for a vicious elbow very similar to what Keith hit Daniel with. If he'd connected on what "appeared" to be his intention to injure, Kesler could have been concussed. Hard one to call, because Hordi threw the elbow out further when Kes got out of the way, so maybe it wouldn't have been an elbow if he'd made body contact. But the fact remains the elbow flew out, and if Kes hadn't managed to dodge it cleanly, the league could have had another ugly incident on its hands. A lot of people question whether the league is serious about cracking down on this crap...maybe they should start punishing intent.
