I like going to beat writers for my info sometimes, cuz they're up close with the teams. Usually rotoworld compiles its information from them, and that's my go-to source for all things fantasy. If not, CBS is also good.
I agree that beat writers can be a good source to get quick information about an injury to a player but what they aren't able to do is provide the official roster status of the player in question or, at the very least, it isn't reliable to be an accurate report of the actions of the player's NHL team.
Therefore, in my mind, beat writers are a good source for a GM but not the league.
Rotoworld is already an accepted source as listed on page 2.
CBS does not list official player status as far as I can see.
