[Discussion] Roberto Luongo Trade Thread (Keep all discussion here)

Look. Boston was on a major mission. Every non-Canucks fan, even most professionals on major media outlets were for Boston to win. Boston was bigger, nastier, and had most of their players intact and producing at 100%. The Canucks on the other hand, lost Hamhuis, lost Kesler's ability to function properly, lost Rome to a deflating longest playoff suspension in NHL history, lost all ability on the PP and the Sedins, Vancouver go to guys, we're rag dolled into oblivion on National TV nonetheless, without anyone coming to their defense.

And you expect Luongo to shut the door.

This is very accurate, except I would put Luongo not just "not shutting the door", but crapping the bed as one of the happenings you've listed as why we lost. My point is that you can't justify Luongo's deflating meltdowns by citing the other reasons we lost. They all melted down together, and Luongo was a big part of that. The injuries absolutely killed us, but those who were left didn't step it up. I think that if we can end this season healthy, then we have a great chance at making it back to the final. As long as our top players are top players, then we will be in the mix regardless of future signings and trades.

Not suggesting that at all but Lui does not deserve to be the scapegoat in the Cup loss. It was ours for the taking and no one could buy a goal, not even on the power play. Too many "fans" like to target the goalie and this is why the Canucks have the reputation of being a goalie graveyard.

What also blows me away is that people are harping on the guy who holds most of the Canuck goalie records and is the best goalie we have ever had.

Its pretty straightforward

NHL GM's and coaches know a hell of alot more than anyone on here about player evaluation

Lou is being traded

Therefore

Schnieder is better.

If anyone wants to argue that, go argue with a retarded clam because simply that's likely the only being you'll convince.

You're right, Luongo, with all other problematics the team had when all things were said and done, deflated. Nonetheless, blaming only Luongo for the Cup loss is asinine at best.

Point being that there are numerous reasons why the Canucks could not deliver, not just one, including the high and unrealistic expectation of repeating as SCF hosts.

Should the Canucks get rid of Hamhuis, Kesler, the Sedins and whoever else didn't show up that series, the team would see an overhaul. Some wish it so.

I think many will disagree with you. Winning with a goalie we drafted and developed, a goalie who has never complained when he probably deserved more starts, who could have been greedy and tested free agency this summer and put this team in a tough spot because he could have been offer sheeted, who signed even though Lu was still here.

Lu on the other hand held a gun to this team(and both previous teams)when he said he was going to play out the final year of his initial contract with us if the canucks did not meet his personal deadline, who said in front of the team to not pull him even though he was struggling terribly in the SCF, someone who instead of wanting to fight for his job back almost immediately said it was time to move on, someone that said he would take time off his almost seven million a year job to play poker, someone who has thrown his team mates under the bus, someone who has stated he wears number 1 because that is what he is, who has said he does not play for the fans.
