Probably still not going to make the playoffs, but this looks like a different Canucks team. Sure we trade away two of our fastest players, but oh boy do the Canucks look quicker than ever before.

1) Sedins had a hell of a game, have to commend the twins on their defensive play in the neutral zone which is something they needed to work on, and they really impressed. They've bought into the system and it's showing. Brilliant stick checks and back-checking by both twins. Unlucky on the 1 goal, Henrik nearly had that pass covered too. As for Granlund, his confidence is really showing and we have another 20 goal scorer in him.

Most importantly, the Canucks had a LOT of momentum when WD split the Sedins up for 2 shifts. Our best chances of the game came during those shifts, we really should do that more often. It threw the Ducks quite clearly and we nearly scored on both the different Sedins' shifts. Do that more often please.

2) Horvat and Baertschi have so much chemistry and it's fun to watch, but cycling their linemate was the wrong way to go about the Eriksson injury. Should have just plonked one player on their line, because they struggled to get anything going when they got a new linemate each shift. More importantly though, Horvat went head to head with Getzlaf and shut him right down. We're watching the passing of the torch in the NHL as well and Horvat is becoming a premier shutdown center. He won stick battles and closed passing lanes off perfectly, and scores against Getzlaf too. BIG character win for Horvat. In the past last year Bo would get ripped time and time again by the likes of the Ducks and Dallas in particular, but now he's showing he's better than the stars of the West even. Fantastic all round game from him.

3) Sutter had a hell of a defensive game tonight. Megna was all over the ice but really is only good for his skating. Nice opportunity on the breakaway but he's like a less skilled Hansen which says it all. As for Goldobin, brilliant game by him. There aren't many players you notice offensively every single shift but he is one of them. Skating really well, puck handling perfectly, never losing the puck or making a bad pass and his hockey vision and IQ is tremendous in the offensive zone. This is a special player we've got, we need to use him more. He can pass and he can shoot. That threaded pass to Sbisa off the rush being checked closely was beautiful, unfortunately it bounced over his stick. Had a few really nice chances and no-look back passes. Could have easily had a goal or an assist tonight but more importantly, he made offence out of nothing.

4) Fourth line struggled big-time tonight. I think we need a change on the 4th unit. Chaput nearly cost us the game several times and had his worst game as a Canuck. Gaunce was average tonight, unfortunate penalty to take and could have cost us big time. Cramarossa was alright, few giveaways but nothing catastrophic in the defensive zone.

5) Edler had a monster game tonight, say what you want about his turnovers but he went head to head against Getzlaf and shut him down. Extremely frustrating defending. Stecher was alright tonight, nothing special offensively or defensively.

6) Sbisa and Tanev were our best D-men today. They played hard, physical minutes and blocked a lot of shots and chances. Sbisa in particular had a huge game.

7) Hutton moved the puck and skated really well tonight, not many blocked shots and got hemmed in defensively a bit but was on the most part pretty good, as was Biega who held his ground against Perry and Getzlaf

8) Obviously Bachman was brilliant tonight but lots of bad rebounds. A lot of his job was made quite easy by a collapsing Vancouver unit that prevents second chances and A-grade chances. Good job by the 5 man unit defending but Bachman deserved the W for sure.

TL;DR - The kids are skating and passing well, a huge matchup between Bo and Getzlaf goes the favour of the kid, Sbisa and Tanev were frustrating to play against and we win tonight because we defended well as a 5 man unit.

We were watching different games.

The entire 1st period had the Sedins hemmed in their own zone, devoid of possession. Quality scoring chances against. If it weren't for Bachman, the Sedins would've caused us to lose this game after the end of the first frame.

The vets were disappointing to watch.

Bachman and the youngens stole the limelight tonight.

That's exactly what we want

Bo and baer, agree

Sedins, good night but nothing special

Goldobin, up and down.  Some great plays and surprisingly good on the CD side of the puck.  A couple poor effort shifts and giveaways on the p.o., but good overall.  His skill is a welcome addition

Edler, disagree with monster game, but he got better as the game went on.

Granny was the best skater tonight by a mile, for either team.

Before todays game this was Bo's view for the rest of the season. Tank? :sadno:

BO HORVAT doesn't sound like he's packing it in:

The Canucks could have been 11 points shy of a playoff spot, now they’re seven. It’s still a huge mountain to climb with four teams to pass.

“It’s crazy and if we can get on a streak we can be right there and I think we have the team to do it,” summed up Horvat.

So now whining about the older players is the next thing.

Miller 36 made 41 saves yesterday and Bachman 29 made 43 today. Those guys were the difference in the wins.

Edler 30 made 0 saves yesterday and today tho :P

That was before tonight.  Aren't we just 5 points out now?

Edit: 6 points behind the blues, just checked

Maybe it's time for Burkie to come up with a new Swedish definition of Sedin...

"Hem us in"
