I would argue that Nonis did a better job as a GM of Toronto than Dubas.  At least he actually had some understanding of the sport and wasn't an unqualified dweeb.  That Matthews contract that walks him right to UFA is simply inexcusable, but it's not even the stupidest thing that idiot has done.  Dubas simply has no business in hockey ops whatsoever.

    Steaming hot take!

I think you could've said the same of Ovie when he was 25, but here we are.

That said, I don't think he'll be at Ovie's level, but I do think he'll be the greatest goal-scorer of the 20s almost certainly.

I agree with this. Overcheckin came into the league and was the bigger phenom, we was wild to watch the first 4-5 years. (RMNB)

Mathews is a generational talent, but not a great of one as Ovi.

I agree we had Virtanen 6'1- RW  lots of potential along with McCann 6'1 - C very talented.. Maybe if these guys we sent to minor and developed properly they would of had a better start to the NHL.. McCann has turned out and just signed  big contract..

Developing and not rushing 20 year old into the line up is so important, example both of these players..

You know how that went though, The Hitmen were apparently poorly run and Jake was playing the star in Calgary. Benning wanted better eyes on his first ever pick and figured he had the size at least for the NHL. Jake was in the NHL at 18, AHL the following year. All about eligibility. They really didn't want him with the Hitmen. Someone wiser than I can probably articulate it better.
