  1. This comment gets at something that has been bothering me. Based on on-ice tests, Virtanen should be one of the most talented guys in the WHL -- at least as far as basic skills are concerned -- shaking, shooting, strength. So why does he not get more favorable ice time. Is the problem the coaches or is the problem Virtanen? I worry that maybe be lacks a) discipline B) hockey IQ, c) defensive effort or ability or d) is there is some personality issue.

I hope that is all wrong, but I would like to see him playing more and scoring more.

    disipline B)

  2. Gaunce's value isn't low, its just that he's not a top notch prospect. He's a good prospect that likely has solid market value, but its not like he is a Virtanen/Horvat level prospect.

My stance is, I would hold onto him, but that being said out of all of our better prospects (The first rounders, Demko, perhaps Cassels) he's the one who would be most expendable IMO now that we have Horvat, Cassels & McCann. If we could get another prospect for Gaunce, of similar value & pedigree that helps out another area (most notably defense) I would be all over it. It would obviously have to be the right prospect though, not just for anyone.

But even if we hold onto him I'm very confident he could be a good, useful player for us down the road.

    gaunce is a winger now...

  3. It's funny cause you're bringing more ignorance and stupidity to this thread then anyone.

If you wanna have an intelligent conversation about prospects, then fine. If not, then no one cares what you think. You're not the authority on who's opinion is a good one or not.

Pop back in in a month and pretend you care about our prospects though. Okay bye.

  4. Q: what the difference between a goat and a lamb?

    A:

    - Sheep or lambs are mammals which belong to the Bovidae family and the Ovis aries species while a goat is a mammal which also belongs to the Bovidae family but is of the Capra hircus species.

    - Goats have 60 chromosomes while a lamb has 54.

    - Both eat plants but goats eat the tops of plants rather than those near the ground like lambs do.

    - Goats are intelligent and independent while lambs are very dependent on each other. They get lost when separated from the flock.

    - Goats smell and tend to attract parasites such as lice and ringworms while lambs are less smelly and tend to become infected with stomach worms.

    - Sheep milk has a higher fat content than goat milk.

    - Goat meat is leaner, lower fat, and less cholesterol while lamb meat has a higher fat and cholesterol content.

    - Goats have hair that does not need to be sheared regularly while sheep or lambs have fleece that is sheared at least once a year.

    - Lambs have cropped tails and are typically hornless while goats have horns and tails that can point up.

  5. Dude, don't get your panties in a knot because I'd rather read and give credence to what the posters who actually watch the players live have to say than what you have to say. You credible? Yah, okay, if it makes you feel better.

you should probably log off so you dont take out your anger on random CDC members because you have some sort of personal issue

  6. Which is why we shouldn't trade him right now.

You don't trade a prospect when his value is low. You build him into something, and then if we still wanna trade him, at least we can get a good return.

this is basicly what i was trying to say in my previous post, gaunce is undervalued at a league wide level but for the canucks he deffinitly has higher value, the best move would be to wait and not move him, just leave him alone basiclly same thing with jensen

  7. Gaunce isn't good enough to get a top defensive prospect imo - he's not a top prospect himself so I don't see him getting that kind of a return

He's a very good prospect and I'd rather keep him as well, but I don't think he's untouchable like Horvat

i agree hes defenitly not untouchable but as of now his value isnt high even though he has lots of potential, he sort of under the league radar so to speak, hes more valuble to us than anyboy else cause he can only get better so me might aswell hang on to him

  8. Trading Gauce would be a mistake.

The only thing holding him back right now is his skating. That can be worked on.

He's got the same nose for the net and strength along the boards as Horvat.

hes not really that bad at skating but i agree, thats pretty much his only fault, id leave him for another season though

  9. Let's face it the Canucks got Brandon McMillan as a stopgap until Bonino and Richardson are healthy. After that he is off to Utica. He's a left winger. Gaunce, Shinkaruk, and Archibald are left wingers. Does anyone think this could possibly be a set-up move to trade either Gaunce or Shinkaruk.

I know that Gaunce has also played center in Utica but it seems like they like him on the left wing more. He's been getting better playing time with better line mates lately as well. Not to mention his name was rumoured to be in the Evander Kane offer.

can he even be sent down?

  10. They can't call him up they can only keep him. And they'll only do that if they feel it's better for him in the NHL rather than on a junior squad they don't like.

If it's a bluff and Calgary calls them on it then they'll be forced to keep him for the year.

If he's ready they'll keep him anyway. If he's not then they not only have to carry him on the roster but lose a year of his ELC. That's a dangerous game to play.

what are you talking about in the proposed situation the hitmen either lose him for nothing or get a nice haul for him in a trade

  11. He'll be lucky to even make it as a 4th line center at the NHL level. I think Brent Sutter was spot on with his assessment of Gaunce last year. We'll be lucky if he even pans out at this point. His skating is still a big issue, you just don't see the same strides he has made like Horvat.i

dude you're so annoying just going around cdc bashing our players...

  12. LOL at all the people who are saying they liked the trade from the start

I was calling for MG to trade Schneider instead of Luongo (because he's worth more and can be moved more easily), but I thought we could have gotten more for Schneider at the time

And according to some sources that were out there, other teams did offer more

In hindsight, it looks good with Bo already making an impact as a bottom 6 center in the NHL, but at the time, no one could have said this was a great trade because there were teams that offered more and we weren't 100% sure how Horvat would pan out from the day he was drafted onward even though he looked like a very solid prospect

I'm happy we got a gem in hindsight, but it wasn't a great trade at the time MG pulled the trigger

why are you laughing at yourself ?

  13. because we are tired of trading our prospects for rentals that are going to ditch us in the FA.

    see derek roy for example

well obviously but having Gaunce in trade deals makes sense because he has value,

me personally i would only trade gaunce for a younger player like John Klingberg, im not sure where you got the rental idea from, nobody is proposing rental trades lol

  14. Gaunce for me is going to be one of these rare athletes who always seem to have time but don't seem to be very quick. He has a good anticipation and is always smart on the puck. The type of player others like to play with.

That's why it annoys me when people include him in trade deals. I can't wait for him to get a chance in the NHL.

    why ?

  15. Willy is going to have to let him play though. VIrtanen is going to take stupid penalties like he did in the WJC but Desjardin can't sit him like Kassain everytime he makes a mistake.

IF Virtanen makes the team i would expect 10-15 goals 60-70 PIM

hmm interesting analysis, i wouldn't mind this as we have a decent to great PK...

i wouldn't mind seeing a line of Burrows - Virtanen too...

hopefully Virt gets to play for team Canada next year... who should we expect in the top 6 for team Kanata ?

  16. Watched the Horvat line pretty intently at the game last night. Horvat was solid except for one bad giveaway.

Kassian was good also but it's not good that Kenins was easily more physical in his 1st game.

kenins is more physical than kassian though?

  17. I hope he comes over next year. The AHL will be an easier league for him to play in and develop for the next couple of years.

agreed, i think it will help him be more apart of the org too
