  1. Honestly, it is not close. Pavel was probably top 30 at his best in the NHL for speed. JV comes into the NHL in the top 5 and could be the fastest. Remember, he was the fastest forwards and backwards. I watched him train. The things he was doing will transcend the future skaters. There are a group of guys in Abbotsford that are phenomenal.

    group of guys? who?

  2. "It's an expression" is not exactly a reason. It's more of an excuse. You made a statement that made it sound like you think you know what everyone else is thinking.

If he was lost in the shuffle we wouldn't be talking about him at all. I wouldn't worry about him. :)

nobody thinks anybody "forgot" about Gaunce its a figure of speach.

  3. But his point is pretty simple too. The only people that are forgetting about Gaunce (or any other prospect that isn't the hot topic) is because they only casually follow our prospects at best.

  4. Whenever Jake makes the jump into the big leagues, he's going to have to adjust to the role that he's going to receive (see Horvat). If there's one thing we learned in the WJCs is that he's not ready to be slotted into the bottom six role, at least not now (because lets face it, he's not gonna break into the Canucks top six in his first year).

I understand that it's a habit of CDC to want our flavour-of-the-year prospects to break into the first team but Jake will most likely go the AHL way... and there's nothing wrong with that, Utica will teach him many things.

jake cant play in the ahl, he will stay with us then go to the world jrs then hopefully get traded from calgary and returned to the dub on a contending team an go for the cup

  5. Yeah, it's sad that a player in his draft +1 year (especially one as good as Virtanen) gets stuck with icetime in the mid-teens. If I'm remembering correctly, he also averaged like 13-15 minutes in his draft year, so he's not even playing that much more than he was last season. Here I thought Greg Chase being traded would allow Virtanen to pick up some more minutes...

Guy scored 50 goals in 67 games in his draft year, then scored a goal per game pace in the regular season and playoffs the next season (81g in 81GP). He also had 5 goals and 6 assists in 7 games at the World Juniors. And he's 6'5 205 lbs...

I hate to admit it but that's a much better looking resumé than Shinkaruk's over the past 2 years.

im talking about mantha but ok.

  6. Guy comes back from an injury and posts 0.5PPG in his rookie pro season = overrated.

But when our prospects come back from injury and perform below expectation?

like shinkaruk? very good comparable, but nobody talks about him around the nhl....

  7. Hudon and Tierney are offensive scorers in the A. Gaunce is more of a two-way forward. He most likely gets much less O-Zone time than Hudon or Tierney. It doesn't surprise me his rookie campaign is rather underwhelming. But once he gets his offensive game going, I have no problem putting him in the middle 6 on the Canucks in a season or two.

i dont realy find .005 underwhelming either its kind of what i expect, both gaunce jensen and shinkaruk are all developmental prospects i dont expect to much scoring in the A right off the bat in 2 season gaunce will hopefully be playing on the 1st line

  8. Alright, let's calm down a bit. The guy is doing fine but it's not like he's lighting the A on fire. There are many first year pro's who are doing way better than him, Charles Hudon, Chris Tierny, so are they going to be 1st liners in 3 years?

Let's not forget he's a 1st round pick, so he was expected to have some offensive upside and scoring <0.5ppg in the AHL isn't that great, even for a first year pro.

I like the way he's playing (heavy, strong and tenacious) and think he's 2 years from being a regular in the bottom 6.

    we'll see...

  9. Probably. Could be Richie's replacement if he walks this summer and Gaunce has a really good training camp.

Edit: Could see him in a role like Vey is now. In and out of the line up, but usually consitent none the less.

in 3 years i see him playing as a second liner or a really good 3rd liner

  10. He's certainly starting to show his worth as a 20 year old. I think he will push for a spot next year, but ultimately spend another season in Utica, with potential call ups. He's going to be a great all round player for us one day.

in 3 season Gaunce will be 23, thats obvious but thats the same age as Vey right now, where do you guys see Gaunce in 3 years? 3LW 2LW ?
