I don't know if it really means anything but it's worth speculating over IMO. The solution could be internal too, maybe they see Granlund or McCann fitting in long-term as a winger.
I don't see Vey as such a sure bet to be gone. He's not going to be part of our future core but I don't have issue with him as an NHL'er during our transition process/rebuild/whatever you want to call it.
