Not only did I ignore the request for the top 2 lines, I felt bad for those that missed the cut so I filled out my Utica roster too. Pretty sure I'm at least winning the Calder. Perhaps Butch shouldn't have made the first team, but nostalgia won out as he features in some of my earliest hockey memories.

Itd be the smallest top pairing in league history.

Schmidt would work best for Myers.

As for why some fans are not too happy...  it has mostly to do with the cap hit and how whether some fans want to admit it or not, will increasingly handcuff the club in the near future.

Im a believer in Benning.. havent spoken negatively about him up until this deal.  In comparison to contending teams, Vancouver is severly lacking in high end defensmen and the best we can hope for now is OJ making a huge jump because theres no way this team can sign or afford actual top pairing guys at this point.

Just run that one by me again. You were a fan of Benning despite the fact the team lacked high end defencemen, he signs one with a pretty reasonable cap hit on a contract that ends before he even turns 34 and you think now is the best time to criticise him?

If this deal handcuffs the team as you claim, which "actual top pairing guys" would you prefer and how much would they cost and for how long?

Toffoli is not a legit top 6. The overrating of him on here is pretty bad. This was a bad trade from start to finish. Benning got desperate to make the playoffs and it cost us to get Toffoli. Even threw in the lame excuse Boeser was injured in there when they knew Boeser wasn't injured long term. This opinion can be validated with his performance on the Canadiens, he will get the ice time.

    No.

Toffoli is a top 6 player on most teams, definitely in Van where I'd probably put him marginally ahead of Boeser right now (though obviously BB has much more potential). It's a shame we couldn't keep him and I think Habs got a pretty good deal - we'll come back in the summer and see who's right.

As for the signing - at the time I think it wasn't too bad especially as Boeser was injured and the only reason he didn't miss more games was because of COVID which I'm pretty sure no one saw coming. The extra time for BB to recover, Toffoli's injury and the flat cap probably make the signing bad in hindsight but none of that could be predicted.

    He turns 31 in January.

The contract will end when he's 37.

I'm glad he got his money but that contract is gonna be an anchor in 3-4 years from now.

While that's not how maths works, I agree with the sentiment.

I really like Marky and I'm not gonna enjoy watching him in Calgary, but there's no way 6x6 for him in the current market is a good idea. It's possible he'll be great but there's a lot of risk. If he's still playing well in 2026 I'd be up for bringing him in to backup Demko and/or DiPietro.

WE DON'T KNOW, NO ONE DOES

On a side note how about a few outdoor games with fans since the virus transmission seems to be considerably lower? Maybe a logistical nightmare but pretty much everything would be.

If George Soros had the power people think, they wouldn't be allowed to say his name.

WTF is wrong with some people?

Obviously he controls the world that's why his candidate won the 2016 US election and there isn't a fascist in charge in Hungary who spreads antisemetic lies about Soros...

    So typical.

Have you even read it and verified its content?

It's not even a 'research'. Told you I'm still busy at work.

Sadly I have now read it, wish I hadn't. To save other's the effort basically Soros is evil (in part because he doesn't feel guilty about the holocaust), made his money in shady ways (name a billionaire who hasn't), and now donates a lot of his money to causes that align with his beliefs (evil things like weed legalisation and opposing racist criminal and former sheriff Joe Arpaio)

Simply pay the price to get rid of Eriksson. Keep the good players.

Only way we say goodbye to Tanev IMO is if we sign Pietrangelo.

    I agree with this.

Why get rid of talented players when we have wasted cap space we can try to rid

Maybe I missed, but how did this get to 9 pages before Loui got a look in? I'm pretty sure if there is a way to get rid of that contract at a minimal cost he'll be gone, but what price freedom?

Heard we can split the costs between two years for cap stuff. Meaning half on cap recapture, buyouts and buried contracts split between two years instead of one.

That opens up a good chunk of cap space

Cap stuff makes my head hurt, but aren't we carrying quite a lot over to next year already? Being up against the cap and still in the playoffs has some downsides I guess.

I hope @Sean83 comes back, everything he says is comedy gold.
