Petey was tall but a smurf when drafted. He even weighed less than Lekkerimaki by 11 pounds

Lekkerimaki was the bpa at his spot period, you don’t waste 1st round pucks on organization needs, thats how you end up with Virtanen and Juolevi.

Eh? I guess words can mean whatever you want.

I'm fine with the Lekkerimaki draft tbh, but do you seriously believe JR signing Miller to a 7 year extension with trade protection was some sort of 4D chess move designed to prove that the team needs wholesale change?

2.7 million while running with a 22 man roster... no extra forward only 1 extra dman.

That not including the 4 million for poolman and dermott that are expected back at some point. Waive stillman (saving 0.225) and add Myers (adding 2.55)you are 5 million over when they come back.

Even if that were actual capspace you would have to be crazy to waste 2.55 mil of it it on a 10 minute a night 6/7 dman. We just threw away a 2nd round pick to get rid of an cap dump that nobody wanted... now you want another?

Checks a lot of boxes, none good though.

Not that I would pick Myers up, but wouldn't waiving Stillman would save 1.125m? His cap hit would become 225k.

If they had lots of space I'd be tempted, he'd be overpaid for now but if he worked out he'd be on Stillman money next season. Currently have a surplus of bottom end D-men so need to shed some first if possible.

We were 0-5 on the pp

They had 2 more pp minutes but benefitedftom a gift 5-3.

More 5-5 play we would have had more hits and blocks.

Only 12 hits and 17 blocks.

We could have played a stronger without so many pp's.

Slightly misleading stat though. Scored one goal just as Makar was coming back on the ice and one on the 4v4 that rolled over into a truncated PP and the 5th PP was the last minute of the game.

Over the summer the new GM and his staff had a chance to rectify the problem... but what did they do?  Spent $5 million to acquire Ilya Mikheyev and seemed to put all their energy in signing additional offensive talent in the form of Andrei Kuzmenko or 3rd liners like Curtis Lazar.

Meanwhile free agent D like 6' 3" 232 lb Ben Chiarot and defensively reliable, 6' 2"  206 lb multiple Stanley Cup winner Oli Maata get ignored and signed by Detroit.  Chiarot for the same price as Mikheyev, Maata for half that at 2.5 mil... $500,000 less than Lazar.

Defence should've been addressed but I don't think signing Lazar was the problem. Maybe if he was on $3m, but he's getting $1m for 3 years.

Im not a big fan of hughes but no way does Rathbone come close to hughes.  Rathbone just looks like a dman pretending to be an offensive threat.  He has too low hockey iq to be a regular offensive dman in this league.

Rathbone has been a pro for what, 5 years now?  Hes not getting any better.

Rathbone is obviously never going to be as good as Hughes but this kinda undermines your point. Just over 2 years and the first year was kinda ruined by the pandemic. If only there was a quick and easy way of checking things before posting.

Thing is, a second chance is being given as this "kid" now has a chance to better himself in life. Lay low and be a good human for awhile.

I don't know that he should get a shot at a possible fat contract and future stardom. Maybe not quite yet....zero to hero fast track. Maybe he should take baby steps...I mean, by all accounts he bullied this kid for a long period of time and it was fairly recent in respect to the trauma that was likely inflicted and still remains. Should he get to do "woops, sorry" and then get awarded a shot at a gig that is reserved for the very best?

Court ordered stuff isn't necessarily a sincere attempt at redeeming oneself...it's more an obligation than something initiated from the heart or a pure desire to be better.

Even IF he doesn't get to be in the NHL, he has a chance to live a good life. His victim may be impacted for life (bullying over sustained time can do that)....so let's focus there, shall we?

Maybe we should be concerned that that the victim gets a second chance. That should be the primary focus here.

I think we agree tbh. My response was to the idea that Miller has been treated unfairly in all this, and that's clearly not the case.

Would you feel like that if someone killed your child?  They never get an opportunity to live their life.  Accident or not murder is murder and both bullying and driving impaired are supremely stupid choices.  Socially I find it interesting why people are so much faster to permanently cancel someone for something that happened in their childhood.

Would you rather I bully you or accidentally kill you.  I’d rather be alive but that’s just me.

So all that matters is outcome, intent is irrelevant to you?

The vast majority of criticism here and elsewhere focuses on Miller's actions since the allegations came out. You seem to have a narrative around supposed cancel culture, but I think most people abhor the actions while also being willing to give him a second chance if he genuinely accepted and attempted to atone for what he did. Unfortunately it doesn't seem Miller was willing or able to do that.

The Bruins PR own goal is the only saving grace of an otherwise pretty depressing story.

When the cap goes up 8 mil will be standard for a 30 goal scoring winger.

Not worried about value, more worried about long term center depth. For some reason we keep drafting wingers and are ignoring our organizational weaknesses.

Aman's adapted well and Karlsson's looking good at AHL level. Just need to trade Horvat for a younger Swedish version and we're all good.

There’s a whole lot of misunderstanding going on in this thread. So here’s the facts.

Yes, Bear would have been available on waivers very soon, however there’s two problems with that if the Canucks wanted to pick him up. 1) We can’t afford his full cap price. So if we wanted to pick him off waivers we’d have to send someone else down to the AHL. There’s not many player choices available to do so without having them get sent through waivers where it’s possible we could lose them for nothing. That is, unless we send down any of these players exempt from waivers (which if capfriendly is correct says is the only options): Rathbone, Aman, Podkolzin, Höglander or Kuzmenko. The obvious choice would be Rathbone, but with most of our injuries being on D-men that isn’t a great option right now. In addition I highly doubt any of these guys make it through without being claimed by another team.

I actually think this is quite a good trade, but I also don't think you know what the word exempt means.

I am a massive Chatfield fan, I was and still am pissed that we let him go. But I mean, this is a very misleading read. Guy has 0 points and is a -2 on the season. I am not a huge +/- guy but it is what it is. I'd take him on our 3rd pair over pretty much every option we have. Hell, I'd take him to play with Hughes over Schenn every day of the week. But he's not really deserving of being in the same conversation as Makar. Shots on goal stats are kinda whatever. Especially if the "gets lots of power play time" comment is true. Cause that means he's getting spoon fed prime scoring opportunities and capitalizing on them a grand total of 0 times in 7 games.

He's a good 5/6, but lets not get crazy and say he's "dominating." He's fulfilling his role very, very well. He'd be an instant improvement on Burroughs and Juulsen. And even Schenn like I said. But it is funny that Carolina and Chicago are lauded for taking something from Vancouver for nothing. In the case of Chicago we actually paid them to take a quality player while we got nothing back.

It's not very well written, but I understood that to mean Makar gets tons of power play, the implication being Chatfield doesn't. That said I basically agree and these early season statistical quirks tend to even out eventually.

Love that a win against one of the absolute worst teams in the NHL last season is exciting for some.  This is your Jim Benning rebuilt Vancouver Canucks ladies and gents . Never met so many Canucks fans out and about that couldn't care less anymore.  It's sad.

But sure..... yay......the canucks finally beat someone ( that happens to be a bottom feeder), in overtime,  with their supposedly rebuilt team. Lol. Only in Vancouver.

How is it for suckers? Billions of dollars a day being traded, millions of people betting you telling me all those millions are wrong and you are right? Get a clue, sports betting is an excellent side revenue stream for serious fans obviously it's not for everyone but if you are good at it you can make a few hundred a week with a reasonable bets.

Some are suckers, some are doing it just for fun, and a vanishingly small number make consistent profit from it. If you can really make a few hundred dollars a week just increase your stakes by 5% every week and by the end of the year you're be making over $3000 a week. I suspect it'll be the bookies making that tbh though.

Sure, but papered down still means he's not playing tonight, for the 2nd time in 6 games this season, when he hasn't been the problem. Höglander has been on the ice for 2 goals against and only 39 shot attempts against this season.

Edit: And sorry, hate to do this, but it's moot, not mute.

    I don't believe you.
