i know, right?  the only thing more overpowering is pig flatulence, and that's not even edible!

I’d argue farts bottled up in a jar with a picture of what was eaten the night before would be a close second!

  2. Only scenario I see him going is to Colorado now, if he’s moved! They have the assets and with Giroux saying he wants to go to Florida and Hertl resigning, he’s definitely the #1 target for them. I see Newhook or Byram being on the table here, you aren’t getting both but I’m sure we will get the option of either or. I really hope we don’t pass up on the opportunity as much as I like JT and what he brings.

Who would that be?  Maybe better to get a 2nd?

I’d target Scott Morrow from Carolina who just went 40th overall last year. A team that could use him for a RHD prospect we could use. Works out with what we are asking too, a top 40 pick.

Morrow is 6’3 with a booming shot playing college Hockey

  4. Helleson was a guy I hoped we were targeting. Looks like that ship has sailed. A lot to give up for a UFA. Looks like Colorado is going for it this year, without salary going the other way in this trade I think that just eliminates a deal with us and Colorado.

Edit: Looks like Anaheim is retaining 50%. Still leaves some room. I say they go hard for Miller here.

I think this is a shrewd observation. This is Benning's team and will remain so until Allvin and Co. decide to move some bodies. So to Jim Benning, wherever you are, thanks for Demko, for Boeser, for Petey, for Quinn, for JT, for OEL, for Garland, for Pearson, for Lammikko, for Motte, for Schenn, for Myers, for Hoglander and for Podkolzin. The beginning of the end, however was when you let Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli and Stecher walk for nothing because you ran out of time. Then you extended Travis Green, which in hindsight was a bad idea. Oh well, woulda, shoulda, coulda, maybe and if. And to paraphrase Todd Bertuzzi, it was what it was.

We have the best 4th line in the NHL.  Let’s keep it together…

They also get more ice time compared to others. The best 4th line I’ve seen in 20 years of watching. Sucks as they are actually our 3rd line and our depth could be better due to better contracts. I actually think Dickinson is a great acquisition and there is a reason we still have him, top defensive forward.

  7. Unfortunately we don’t need to look very far at a player who was dominant, only to fall off after signing a huge contract. OEL was once in the exact same position as JT Miller, at almost the same age. Both considered first pair, top line players who were leaders on their teams, both probably seeking the same amount of term and $.

OEL is now considered one of the worst contacts in the NHL and we are lucky enough to have him on the books for 6 more years. I’m not saying Miller is guaranteed to fall off like OEL did, but do you want to run that risk? If he does get signed I won’t be upset because I know what he means to the team, you just can’t offer him a NMC/NTC. I’d rather offer him  $8.75 x 5 and try to bring down the term, I’m worried what a 35 year old Miller looks like with the way he plays the game, that’s why I think it’s very important we don’t do either. You need to sell high on this player and take advantage of his production and contract, the fact he has no trade protection is the cherry on top! JR is lucky to have the media in this market to potentially create a bidding war, Benning never used this avenue and I have no idea why. SELL, SELL, SELL.

  8. Some people ( myself included at first ) want to make a move for the sake of making one. It’s the shiny new toy with New management in place and you can’t wait to get home before you rip open the box in excitement. ( yes I have a 4 year old boy ) It’s not the way to do it though and other than moving a meh piece or two all we should be focused on is finding a way to clear up all the bonus money this year.
The draft is where you do the big moves, that’s where you have more time to assemble a list of targeted players who you want playing for the Canucks. Draft picks are usually more available as teams know where they are picking so there is less risk involved between both teams. Prospects get drafted and teams miss out on “their guy” and these are the type of opportunities we need to be ready to pounce on. We are the ones with the assets teams want and are trying to get, not the other way around so theoretically, we should be in the driver seat.

Only one star player we should potentially move is JT Miller and that’s due to his age, contract and no clue if he will even resign.
You need to maximize the value here as everyone aside from Hughes and Demko is having a down year, why sell low? If you don’t get the value you think you deserve you’ll still have two more major opportunities to trade him after this year so it’s not the end of the world. ( draft/next deadline )

You always see the patient GM’s wait and win the trade due to some other team panicking to save his job etc ( sound familiar ). I for one want to be on the side of the winning team for once, I also want to have confidence in my new management team.

Remember on Boeser, just because his QO is over 7 million, doesn't mean that we couldn't sign him to a 6 or 8 year extension at 6 - 6.5 million. Few players of his stature, accept a 1 year QO. They want stability of a long term deal.

We all know that he's better than his numbers reflect right now, I would think lock him up long term for around 6 million per, personally.

QO's are generally only accepted by guys coming off their ELC, who want a year to prove that they deserve a much higher number.

In my mind Boeser should get TJ Oshie numbers on his next contract. They are very comparable to me in the roles they play.

We need to resolve our cap issues and it's not like Brock is having an amazing season comparatively to Kasperi. So we get similar offensive production (while having a player that have shown to play a 200ft game) plus a potential project prospect and pick. To net that and the cap savings, I think it's worth the move.

I'd love to keep Brock instead, but something's gotta give. I don't think moving Miller/Horvat is the answer considering we should be utilizing Demko's steal of a contract to sort of being a window for us.

Im just going based on the available rumours of Pittsburgh and New Jersey being the teams calling. I'd consider other options (if any were available), but I wouldn't be upset with that return I mentioned as it replaces Boeser in some ways right now for cheaper and adds a couple of other young assets.

If they are interested we shouldn’t have to take cap back. They give us picks and prospects. Adding Kasperi or Zacha defeats the purpose in my mind, saves 2 million on the cap? I’d rather just keep Brock and let him bounce back next year. If you sign him to a one year show me deal you can still trade him before the next deadline for assets. If he plays good and earns a better contract he’s already on record saying he wants to stay and loves it here.

Not saying Hallander is a sure thing or anything, but he's not a complete dud yet.

    https://www.pensburgh.com/2021/9/8/22660689/pensburgh-top-25-under-25-4-filip-hallander

This was from a few months ago. They seem to believe that Hallander could be a decent bottom 6 forward and if he can have any semblance of a 3C for us, that's a decent piece back. But he really is just a project return.

The main piece is to get Kapanen who was utilized on the PK with Toronto and his offensive production hasn't been far off from Brock's this season. Could potentially be signed for nearly half of Brock's contract to save cap which has always been the main reason that Brock is even considered being traded.

I just don't think Brock is worth a 1st and roster player at this point. Especially when Kapanen is the same age.

If we can get a better deal than what I suggested, great, but I don't think the return is nothing. Teams with other prospects available may not consider making the move given that they may have to spend a ton of cap to extend him. The only other team being rumoured is NJ right now as far as I can tell and I'm not sure they have much better to offer. Much rather have Kapanen than Zacha as a starting point.

Yeah both teams should just back out. Assets aren’t there.

I like the concept, and I would really like Provorov on the Canucks. I had the thought of Horvat going to PHI as well. They need real help at C. Does Provorov make sense though?  He's a LD, so would they use Hughes as a RD?

    OEL - Myers

    Provorov - Hughes

Also, can they afford him? He makes $6.750 for 3 more years.

We are after Chychrun, so I imagine Provorov is right up their alley. You have to imagine they were admiring him when he was in their division in Pittsburg. He’s the right age and pedigree. Hughes has already stated he’s comfortable on both sides, he says more offensive opportunities arise being on his off side.

  13. I think the fact of the matter is with our tax dollars we will have to overpay in order to keep our vets like Miller, Boeser, Horvat unless they take a home town discount and buy in. That’s why the only way I see us retool until the cap starts going up, is through the draft where we will have cost controlled years. I think we need to get rid of 2 of those names for picks and Prospects. I also think we need to get rid of Myers or OEL in order to start reshaping our team, I feel if Myers were to go to UFA he would get close to his 6 million for 2 years. Teams are usually willing to pay more money for less term, Myers would probably get a 4m x 2yr as of today as a UFA. With all that free cap while we are building through the draft we take on bad contracts and leverage extra value (picks/prospects) on a couple players from teams (Vegas etc) who need to shed cap space. In 3 years we will start to see results and we should have a top Prospect pool and one of the better 25 and under cores in the league.
