Poor guy, it’s a vagina buddy. I hope you get to see one soon.

Funny part is Benning must be at home shaking his head knowing it’s still basically his team

Management has not provided an adequate defence in order to actually succeed in the NHL. Period! Ownership let some Rookie GM destroy a billion dollar franchise for 8 years. Now they’ve hired another Rookie GM hoping for better results under a retired POHO way past his prime GM. You literally can’t make this stuff up!

Again, shows why you need to draft your own RHD

Miller isn’t the move to hurt this team at all, and it’s not even close. The OEL/Garland trade where we traded a top 9 pick and our second rounder last draft is the real killer. A lot of people are complaining about the off-season and lack of a change on defence that was talked about in the pressers from JR and PA.
If we had just let the 3 salary dumps play out the last year of their contracts we would have had $12 million in cap space and two more top prospects in our system developing getting ready to join the team.
New management probably saw how badly this set the team back as they are now not attaching assets like picks/players in order to stop gap fix the back end like promised or wanting too. They are keeping their picks and building depth along with salary control during RFA years with their draft capital and letting the contracts expire on their less desirable players.
After this season the Holtby, Virtanen, Halak recapture is gone and Ferland is also off the books. Myers, Dickinson and Pearson will all have 1 year left on their contracts and a player like Myers who is only owed $1 million in salary but $6 million on the Cap is actually beneficial to teams like Arizona and Chicago who are trying to hit the Cap floor while spending as little as possible in order to do so, he will be an asset in that regard.
Time is the only thing keeping this team away from being a perennial Playoff contender and to me it looks like by next offseason we will be able to do some major overhaul to the Defence and use Cap space to our advantage against teams who are looking to make it under.

He is our big game player who plays in all situations for our team. Hard to argue with the numbers of the contract on this one, regardless if it was the right move or not.
Nice to see management prioritize the Center position and by the sounds of it Defence going forward, definitely makes a fan feel more confident without seeing any major changes yet.

The funny thing with Boeser is our management team was the same one running Pittsburg when he was destroying Murray for back to back hat tricks. They probably have had a player crush on him way before they ended up inheriting him in their new role.

In reality there are probably only 6/7 top tier GM’s in the league and unfortunately we don’t have one of them. We keep hiring first time rookies who are learning on the fly and should probably keep quiet instead of laying out their plan and failing to deliver. I know JR is here to mentor this time and Benning left a mess with an empty Prospect pool and terrible overpaid Defence, but it still feels like it did before at this point. The trade that fell through with the Islanders and passing on kemmel when he was there for the taking feels like much of the same. Never pass BPA in the draft and Kemmel was ranked higher all year and watching him come second in scoring at the WJC is salt in the wound. Having Miller on the team still is a distraction and the longer you hold onto him the less his value gets, or we end up keeping him and he walks.

They sure talked a big game about getting younger and fixing the D, and they did neither really. I’m not knocking Mikheyev but after signing Kuzmenko what is the thought process on all these forwards? I’m sure ice time was promised as well so it looks like they way over valued all of our players. It’s sad, they had 6 months prior to find all that information out prior to the draft and UFA period. They have done nothing like balancing out the salary cap between D and forwards, it’s actually worse than it was before now.

Hopefully hearing his name a couple times gives him some more confidence. Glad he produced on the PP

People clearly don't understand that money isn't a play here. If Miller truly loved Vancouver he would sign here for 7.5 x 8 years. 9 mill from 7.5 per year is peanuts to fight over sorry.
Look at Johnny, he left 15+ mill, clearly its the city and the situation thats wrong for Miller not the actual salary. A player can tell his agent to accept whatever deal, the player isn't sophisticated nor do they know their true value they are just happy to keep playing hockey. 1.5 mill more per year isn't the deciding factor.
In states that are tax free I agree with this assessment, here it’s likely he’s losing close to $2 million in tax’s alone. That 1.5 million extra is a big deal to a team like us as we probably have to overpay others to avoid this as well, every cent counts.

Anyone else kinda jealous of Calgary this off-season? This was supposed to be us shaking and baking with the moves to change up our roster. I’m not saying they are better because of it as they lost Gaudreau for free as a UFA, but they certainly killed it with the Tkachuck trade.
as a fan, Calgary should be pumped to watch the new team and sell a ton of merchandise in the next few weeks.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but did management ever back themselves in a corner with JTM. After the Huberdeau signing Miller will only be sold as a deadline rental now in my eyes, the thought of 3 assets is probably gone due to not trading him last deadline for 2 playoff runs. This contract (Huberdeau) just made it so everyone in the league knows we won’t be resigning him and chances are they won’t be either, unless it’s a team like Anaheim with cap and they have no reason to trade for him.
I could actually see a scenario where he ends up in Calgary (puke) and replaces the Tkachuck money with him. (Huberdeau/Gaudreau is a wash, both offered $10.5x8)
They have Weegar as a piece and a couple other trade chips including a Panthers 1st round pick in 25 they can throw in the deal, maybe even Anderson is available in order to improve the offence for JTM.
It looks like Calgary just bumped up its timeline to compete in the next 5 years or they are stuck in no man’s land, JTM now fits there like a glove.

Well it makes sense as they have said they want more puck movement from the backend and he’s a RHS. If we move Myers and replace him with Klingberg I’m ok with that, nothing over 5 years though.

There's several guys I'd deal Miller one-for-one: Schneider, Byram, Clarke, Chychrun....just to name a few....we don't need quantity in a Miller deal, we need quality.
A single, elite young roster player or bona-fide blue-chip asset is still value, anything else is bonus vs letting him walk as ufa.
I agree.
-
Carolina with Necas, Colorado with Newhook, Rangers with Schneider are the three targets I’ll stand by. Lundell and Byram would be great , but I don’t see them available. I don’t see a scenario where we don’t trade or use a 1st round pick to draft or acquire a bluechip RHD, unless the Rangers cave and give us Schneider in the Miller deal.
-
I’d check in on Florida and see if they would do Lundell and Hornqvist for JTM. Cap would be a wash pretty much and they will have the money after this to resign him to an extension, especially with the no tax Florida living situation. JTM and Tkachuck would be unbelievable together and they would have improved their grit tremendously.
Strike while the iron is hot JR

Newhook is a great start, add a 1st and B prospect as that first is likely 32nd overall with Miller.

i feel all we need is better def , if we can somehow muster better d , we could be a playoff team? i feel goaltending and our forwards are great, just d is so sus
No way we can do that without losing some good players in our top 6. It’s a catch 22
-
I just hope management doesn’t think we are a playoff team going into next year, not after this move and Vegas bouncing back. A small part of me believes FA wants JR to make the playoffs and that a reason we’ve hung onto a few of our guys instead of doing what they said and building around the 25/26 and under core. Hopefully this pushes things along and triggers a retool towards it starting next week.

Word on the street is Vancouver requested the opening road trip due to renovations in the locker room not completed by the beginning of the season. Management doesn’t seem to be getting anything done, and on time.
